I fell at Kaiser Intrastate East while at my oncologist’s office. What a terrible place to be ill. I have spent my max out of pocket and my insurance will get canceled at the end of November because I am too injured to work. I’ve been trying to get adequate care since last November. I was in a wheelchair in their dressing room and I stuck out half way because the handicap dressing room was too small. And the xray technician said she couldn’t help me get the xray was it wasn’t part of her job. Complaints go on deaf ears at Kaiser.

Kaiser makes a country without universal healthcare more tolerable. No, compulsory insurance, Obamacare, is not universal healthcare like in Canada and Europe. Their location at Interstate Avenue is big and heavily supported by adjacent light rail. There are all kinds of offices in different directions, this one being their east office. Routine features such as adult medicine and blood tests are done here. I went to see my doctor after signing up. The individual helping me was quick and courteous. The building is expansive, but waits are not particularly interesting. At the middle of the day, I was able to just walk in for a blood test. Elevators can be found all over the building. Doctors seem to be available only moderately. I did have to wait several weeks for the one I had chosen online. Prices for Kaiser services are exceptional within context. My doctor has helped me look into all kinds of exercise programs. Health is not a exciting part of life, but like sweeping, it cannot be put under the rug.

It wasn’t until I experienced Kaiser that I understood the hellish experience provided by HMO’s. I regret signing up for them when I had a chance to switch at the beginning of the year. This is my second time working with them to schedule a psychiatric appointment. The phone screen they have you go through before seeing a provider is uncomfortable, and given their hours I had to do it while at work. When stating that I preferred working with a female provider, the gentleman on the other end of the phone proceeded to ask why(which is completely irrelevant). I can’t blame the providers in California looking to strike with the poor wait times, customer service, and care provided by KP. I have a one month wait for the counselor and two for the P-doc; when I specified that I would prefer a counselor with experience providing EMDR the scheduler seemed to completely ignore my request. I really want to give them a single star(if not less), but I’ve yet to meet either new specialist and I won’t knock them on quality of care on their end, and my previous P-doc through them(Melanie Kim) was fantastic, although she no longer works there. I can’t blame her for moving on from the KP system; if they make their clients jump through this many hoops and deal with as many hassles as they currently deem necessary, I can only imagine what the clinicians who do give a damn about their clients have to go through.

I’m so pleased with our urgent care experience tonight. From the call to the advice nurse to the care received there in-house, it was a really great experience. All of the nurses were extremely kind and had lots of experience. My doctor was complete and compassionate.
