Jupiter Hotel

This place is great! The rooms are really cool looking inside, every that works there is very nice and helpful. For a late nite cap, the restaurant/​bar next door is amazing! There is a lot of things to do around the area, I would tell anyone to stay at this place. I can’t wait to come back and stay at this place again!

The staff was friendly, the room was clean, the bed was very comfortable.
Parking was a challenge.
Don’t stay here if you are going to cry about the music/​people out late at night… it’s a hotel in the middle of multiple clubs. Duh.

I can only give this place 1 star. Although the staff was nice, room was clean, the rest was horrible. Parking is very limited, the room walls are paper thin, you could hear everything. The heater in the room was super loud.
I was really excited to stay here with my husband, but I doubt we will ever go again. Not a very pleasant experience for the pricey room.

A lot of reviews complained about the noise of the hotel but we did not have that problem. Granted, we went in the winter on a Sunday-​Tuesday so this could be the reason why a ton of people weren’t partying. It rained the entire time we were there so people didn’t stay outside and drink and be super loud. We got lucky.
The people at the check-​in were pretty nice, very ‘Portland.‘
We got the Brews & Booze package for our stay. The beer bucket was a bit disappointing since it was only one flavor of beer. The Distillery Passport is pretty awesome, my suggestion is don’t get this if you’re staying on Sunday-​Wednesday though because a lot of them are closed during the week. We got lucky and hit 8 of the 11 places.
The chalkboard doors are awesome. The rooms are pretty cool, it was different then what we were expecting but it had a cool vibe. The shower was touchy with hot and cold and the TV took forever to change channels. For the most part, we enjoyed our stay here. It cost $ 10 a night to park a night. There is a ton of taxes added on to the bill, which I was surprised about since there wasn’t a lot of sales tax for everything else. It cost us $ 400 for the package, parking, and 2 nights.
There are probably other cooler/​cheaper hotels in the areas so I would shop around before jumping the gun on this place.

Avoid room 254! The room is above the lobby, next to the stairs, and overlooks the restaurant, the bar, the banquet tent, and the underground music venue. It was LOUD from 700pm to 300am! We were told to call the front desk if it was loud after 11 PM. But everytime we did the gentleman at the front desk told us he couldn’t hear anything or couldn’t see anything so there wasn’t a problem. We got absolutely no sleep. And we are heavy sleepers

I honestly do not know why so many people have rated this awesome, super fun hotel so low!
My band and I were playing at the attached venue (Doug Fir Lounge) so were booked into The Jupiter for the night to make things easier. It is most definitely the best, most comfortable hotel we stayed over the course of our entire tour!
Firstly, yes. This place is attached to a loud restaurant/​live music venue– one of the best in Portland as a matter of fact so if you have a problem with noise or are looking for a quiet, romantic getaway you will probably not enjoy your stay. Being forewarned about this, it actually isn’t too bad at all!
The rooms are small but comfortable, the front door is a chalk board and the Jupiter encourages everyone to get creative and then post their artwork on the instagram page for special prizes (yes, super hipster I know… but I had fun!). The beds were my favourite thing, they were as soft as a cloud– so much so I didn’t want to drag myself out of mine in the morning!
The staff were pretty nice although they did give away the special parking spots we’d reserved for our tour vans and we had to park over the street (hence why they lose a star).
The Jupiter is central to everything in this part of Portland so you can easily find other fun things to do outside of the kick-​ass night spot below your window.

Hipster *motel* that will keep you up late with loud music from the connected bar/​venue next door. The walls are quite thin, too — so if it’s not music, it’ll be your neighbors (or in my experience, a pick-​up truck parked outside beneath my room that caused my walls to shake when it was started up at 7am). Amenities are a bit bleak — especially in the bathroom. All of the furniture is very Ikea-​esque, complete with a low to the ground Malm-​esque bedframe. I really hated the air conditioner, which didn’t seem to have an auto setting — only on or off. I was either always cold or always hot. There was about a foot and a half of space between the edge of the bed and the very small desk, so working was also difficult. Overall, I could not get comfortable in my room.
Two stars for the staff, who were very nice and do give you fair warning of the noise. I didn’t have a choice as I was booked there through work.

BEWARE!!!
This hotel advertises itself as a trendy, clean, luxury hotel in the heart of Portland. But this is just a motel 6 that had a hipster designer, but blew his/​her entire budget on lobby art. The standard rooms have just enough room to squeeze a full bed and an office chair. This would be fine if they were cheap as a regular garbage hotel, but they more expensive then the luxury chain hotels.
So if you’re looking to spend a lot, hear everything your neighbors are doing in their room, receive a free condom in your room, and have to listen to a nearby bar at all hours of the night… Then this place is for you!!!

FUCK THIS PLACE
This place is a joke. The front desk was the only good part of this visit. The rooms are small and cramped. There are homeless that come in and use the court yard bathrooms. And the Manager So was extremely rude and off putting.
The motel6 on grand is a much better choice and next to the MAX!

Had a recent stay, spur of the moment after a night out with friends. The adorable guy at the desk, Danny, was so helpful and patient with me, even if I was a few drinks into it. He kept a smile on his face no matter how irritating I might have been.
The room was fantastic (not my first stay), bed was super comfy, room was clean as always, overall I was very happy with my stay.
Thanks again Danny! Your comforting smile and patience made the whole experience so much better.

Very hipsterish hotel that is pretty darn awesome!
My buddy that I traveled to Portland is a self proclaimed hipster which is why we ended up here and I am glad we did. When I first made it to the room I saw there was a chalkboard on the door. I made it in around 2am and saw that my buddy wrote on the door, «Andre, You are late!» I opened up teh door and saw there was a chalkboard on the other side as well. As soon as I looked on the wall I saw a Spiderman painting on the wall. They have something on the walls in each room I think as I saw someone had John Lennon on theirs.
The room itself was a nice size as it was able to fit 2 of us comfortably… my buddy is 6’9 250lbs so you get the picture. I thought it was cool that they had Voss water and wine in addition to condoms on the dressers in the room… its good that they are advocating safe sex. Its gets pretty rowdy at this hotel @ night so you may want to make sure you’re not near the patio @ Doug Fir… we didn’t mind as we were partying as well into the wee hours of the night. There is a nighttime noise machine in the room to help you sleep if you need it though. The hotel is in a great area so you have so much in a short walking distance.
The next time I come to Portland I definitely plan on staying here

First off, I wouldn’t ever pay to stay here but I had a gift certificate expiring soon so we gave it a shot. The room felt cramped, the «clean» sheets were a joke, and even though the day was cool and breezy our room was muggy. While I’m sure some of the rooms are artsy and fun, ours was lacking and poorly done. The chalk board doors are fun but the vulgarity of some of the other guests’ doors was a bit of a turn off as we sought to find our room, when we first arrived (I’m not judging anyone but I don’t need to see genetalia, though well drawn, as I seek out my weekend getaway).
Their quiet hour isn’t until 2:30am (I think?) but, honestly, don’t expect to get any sleep if you stay here. When the room description said «on the bar patio» I expected that to mean I could walk out of my room and relax in a patio chair with a drink. Not the case — we had to walk all the way around the patio, through the restaurant and bar, then to the patio where I could sit 5 feet from my room but no direct access to it. Guests to the bar were whooping and hollering till the last minute and it didn’t end at 2:30am, it just moved to their rooms. Finally, around 4:30am it quieted down only to have the guests above us decide that 5am was the perfect time to do a dance and drop everything possible on the floor. By 7am I gave up completely on sleep as I heard the hotel staff prepare the patio for the day. The flat as pancakes pillows and stiff mattress certainly didn’t help any.
The only reason we gave it 2 stars and not less is because I’m sure this setting appeals to some people (not us!), the hotel staff was friendly, and they do technically warn future guests of the party-​all-​night noise levels. Definitely never staying here again, though.

We stayed on a Thursday night. They booked a party in their foyer. Doesn’t matter what area of the hotel you are staying in… You’re going to hear the bass. Their «events» last no longer than 11pm. So if you’re exhausted from travel and looking to hit the hay early, not always going to happen here.
Oh. And $ 10/​night for parking that they tell you about upon checking in to the hotel.

If you’re deaf, not afraid of spiders, want to party all night and receive complementary condoms… this place is for YOU!!!
I’ve seen a lot of management replies on here where they indicate how upfront they are when booking a room regarding the noise level. We bought our room through
and had no idea what we were getting into.
Attn: mgmt/​owners… maybe you shouldn’t participate in
so other peeps won’t end up annoyed, angry and upset like me.
The motel is nothing more than an old painted up Motel 6 with funky wallpaper. The prices are absolutely ridiculous for what you get.
We were told upon check in «if it gets too loud, give us a call!» I asked «what do you mean… can you put me in a quite area?» She said NO! Why’d you ask me to call then???
They host live music events every night of the week and our room was only 10 feet away from all the drunks laughing and yelling right outside our door.
Basically you’re screwed if you want to sleep prior to their 2:30 am noise curfew and that’s why they leave earplugs on the nightstand. You can’t make this shit up!!!
Those particular rooms should be reserved for the people that are staying up half the night from the event.
On a good note, the bed was decent and the pillows were great but NOT for the price and noise level we had to endure.

immediately locks in your purchase and you’re not able to cancel the transaction. Let’s pretend I was able to cancel the transaction and called you directly for a price match, how would that have improved my stay? Your posted solutions are useless!
Although I appreciate your responses to all the negative feedback, I don’t really see how or what you are doing to correct the real problem.
Also, we did ask for a quieter room. Your hotel could NOT accommodate us. Please don’t act dumb and make it sound like a few adjustments could have made our stay more pleasant when we both know that’s simply not true! Get some bug spray too!

There are certain police tactics used to get kidnappers and hijackers out of a building which involve blasting loud music until the perpetrator surrenders. Such task forces should consider replicating Hotel Jupiter’s «garden view» room situation on a weekend night to achieve a more annoying effect.
No joke, staying in a hotel room directly facing Doug Fir’s outdoor patio area made me want to give up at life. Not only could we hear every single word of conversations happening until 2 am, but the sheer stupidity of the conversations was suicide inducing. Imagine a live episode of «Girls — Portland Edition» playing on repeat for hours on end.
That being said, the rooms were well equipped and even had noise machine to block out the happenings outside. Cable TV, comfy bed, and hot shower are more important than nighttime quiet.
The location can’t be beat, either. Close to a ton of amazing bars and restaurant, you can walk for blocks and find whatever floats your Portland boat. And put a bird on it or whatever locals do ;)
Just get a room as far away from the beer garden as possible. Far, far away.

I am truly shocked by all of the negative reviews about the Jupiter on here, and I’m glad they did not deter me from booking a room.
The staff at both the hotel and the Doug Fir were charming, welcoming, and down to earth. Upon entering, the concierge gave us the skinny on how this place works and encouraged us to text them and let them know ASAP if there were any problems or disturbances.
The room was ready for us early, clean and tastefully decorated to add character. The «extras» (amenities you select when booking the room) were a nice touch — we selected the bottle of champagne and the fantasy adult package and I recommend both for vacationing couples.
Jupiter is located not far off from downtown Portland (a 10 minute walk across the bridge under the big sparkly sign or $ 7 cab ride). But if I didn’t have other plans, I would have had fun hanging out here, going to the bar or checking out the show at the venue underground.
Grateful for the free wifi all over the premises and the recycling bins in the room!
I would not recommend this place for families with kids, traveling business professionals, or the sober. But if you’re looking for a casual/​retro/​unique place to have fun, than this place is perfect and worth every penny.

Their dollar signs actually match their ratings. I was pretty stoked to stay at the Jupiter hotel bc when I previously lived in Portland, OR… Jupiter hotel/​Doug Fir was suppose to be pretty hip. A neat spot to come chill with friends at doug fir patio and watch concerts, eat good food and have good drinks.
I love the location bc as soon as I left my hotel, I was able to cross the burnside bridge and get around the city. I like the package that we got. I guess Jupiter hotel has a care package option that includes beer, candy, soda, and water. That was neat to see as soon as we walked in. I like the decorations and I loved the bed and breakfast menu. Food was on point.
Cons, we got a king bed and the whole bed took over the entire room and there was barely any walking space. I was hoping that with a larger bed, would be a larger room.
The floor I’m not a big fan about either. I was hoping that once I took off my shoes that I would be comfortable but the floor is made out of this plastic scrubber material. Rough on the feet.
Overall experience at the Jupiter hotel was a 3 star. It’s pretty much an old, vintage hotel turned into something modern. I do still recommend this hotel because it’s a great location. It’s not in the city but its right across the bridge and it’s a great place to start out if you’re getting everywhere by foot.
Love that it was next to SE Stark st. too, next to Scapegoat Vegan tattoo shop and sweet pea vegan bakery. Across the street from Burnside Brewery and Sizzle Pie. I was able to pick up coffee everyday and grab a slice of pizza.
If you’re looking for something hip, trendy and affordable. This is for you.

It’s adorable here, it’s like one of those old hotels with a young hip renovation. There is a chalkboard door, many bars and clubs in walking distance. Condoms, wine and candy in the room. Not much more you can ask for…
We got a room facing the loud bar so we had to move. But they were nice about it.

This is an overpriced *boutique* hotel.
Some lawyer /​real estate broker purchased a few years ago, put their own spin and kitch on the place, and hasn’t done any improvements since.
I’ve stayed here 3 times in the last 2 years — and in 2 of the 3 times, I haven’t gotten the room I reserved.
It’s the only ‘hotel’ in the area, but the neighborhood to the south is somewhat ghetto — so be alert!
The rooms are clean, but need a refresh. I really don’t want to stay here again.
They say «Dog Friendly» but really just want the extra $ 35 for a dog, with no facilities offered for them (the entire place is cement!)

I like the Jupiter Hotel, I really do. This (I’m guessing) 60s era motor lodge straddles the line between SE and NE Portland in the Buckman neighborhood, renovated to appeal to the rock-​and-​roll lifestyle of tourists and locals alike. The furnishings and details are oh-​so-​cool. But while the whole place is just teetering on the edge of becoming tragically hip, the fantastic and genuinely friendly staff grounds the whole experience.
So, I’m new to Portland. After driving five days across the country with two dogs in tow, suffering car problems along the way, I arrived in PDX to discover that due to a mixup, my stuff wouldn’t arrive for almost a week. Because I was moving just a couple of blocks away and hoped to simulate some sense of normalcy, we booked a room at Jupiter Hotel so that we could at least get to know our neighborhood. It probably wasn’t the best choice for our needs, but I’m glad that I got to experience it.
First night, we were right across from their on-​property restaurant/​concert venue Doug Fir Lounge. Let me tell you, they give you complimentary ear plugs for a reason. I had expected to get noise from the band, but instead it was just loud-​ass people being loud out on the patio. Fortunately, we changed rooms the next night and it was much quieter. Pro Tip: Always ask for a room on the more quiet side of the property.
Once in our 2^nd room, we settled in for three more nights. Let me tell you this: For how cool the rooms are, they are just ridiculously small. People have told me the rooms with two beds are more spacious, but if you’re looking for a one-​bed room, prepare to be cozy. By the end of our third night in room #2, I was more than ready to leave due to claustrophobia. That being said, the bed was quite the comfortable place to rest my weary head.
The hotel is in a great location for dining and nightlife, and convenient to public transit if you want to hit up the rest of the city. Parking is cheap at $ 10 a day, which was a major bonus.
I’m wavering between 3 and 4 stars for the Jupiter Hotel, but I think I’ll bump them up. After all, if I had friends coming to town for only a night or two and were looking to party, there’s no other place I’d suggest above the Jupiter. Our mistake was to stay here for a longer period of time, when we were already tired and just wanting to stretch our legs and relax. If you check in to the Jupiter Hotel for the right reasons, you’ll leave impressed.
