My favorite tea shop in Portland! Full disclaimer– I work for The Jasmine Pearl, but even if I didn’t I’d be a loyal customer. I love the Dong Ding oolong, Earl Grey Lavender, Yuzu black tea, Mayucha sencha, and Tsuyuhikari sencha. You can taste anything before you buy it so you know for sure that you’re leaving with something you love. Now that it’s hot outside, I’m drinking more iced teas and their tea sodas. Lemon Hibiscus, Tangy Grapefruit, Ruby Nectar, and Mild Mint iced are super refreshing iced.

I love this place. It’s tucked away off the main streets, in a big old building. It smells wonderful in there, has a really cool space and light, and the teas themselves are great. And maybe it makes me a troglodyte, but my favorite is the tea soda rather than any hot tea. Not that I don’t like the hot teas, but… what can I say? – I’m generally a cold beverage person. In any case, the employees are funny and amiable, the prices are reasonable, the product is great.

This is an excellent tea co. to purchase loose leaf tea. They are knowledgeable, and the teas excellent. We’ve been searching for a new tea co. since Foxfire closed. It’s very helpful to have tastings of the teas before purchasing too. Bonus to have an ice tea to go, delicious! This is our new tea source for sure. Debra

It is a lovely little tea shop with tons of options if you just want to buy tea there and then be on your way. However, if you are looking to sit down and enjoy that tea then I would try to find another spot. I’m giving this three stars based on the lack of seating and the stiff atmosphere. I didn’t feel welcome, or like the employees actually wanted us to be hanging around inside. The tea was good. I ordered a tea soda; Lime zest, I think. Cool little shop, not a great tea room.

TEAlicious! What a pleasant experience! From the kind greeting as you enter to the pleasant aroma of teas, exotic spices and the wonderful tasting bar, this place rocks! The knowledgeable tea demonstater(Sommelier?, Barista?) patiently & articulately shared tea & her extensive knowledge of. each of the teas I sampled. Nice place to add to a quiet dating itinerary.

Amazing place to try different types of tea. My husband and I were waiting for a brewery to open down the street and thought we checked this place out. The staff and service were excellent. We ended up spending at least an hour there, trying different types of teas, and eventually left this place buying several bags of tea. This is a must-visit stop for tea lovers.

It amazes me that this place has been around since 2004 and I’ve just now discovered it. Nice to know that little pockets of Portland will pop up and kiss you on the cheek from time to time. I had the most pleasant sampling teas at Jasmine pearl. I was in aw how each tea was brewed and presented with so much regard and respect as the last. After our tasting and purchases we popped over to the antique shop next door for some meandering. Thank you for the perfect Portland afternoon!

This is by far one of my favorite places in Portland. They have the best tea around and the shop is one of the most charming places I have been to. I love that the staff is so helpful and knowledgeable and that you can sample any tea that smells or sounds interesting before you commit to buying it. They also offer a discount for bringing bags back in to reuse. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Jasmine Pearl!

I drove by this shop while in the neighborhood with my son. We picked up a gift for a friend and I tried a lime twist tea soda. OMG I’m in love! The tea is delicious and the staff are very friendly. I found my go to spot for tea!

I just discovered Jasmine Pearl and now I am going to pour out all of my tea bags because I have a totally new understanding of what tea can be! The two people working there really know tea and are very generous in sharing their knowledge and passion. I definitely will go back!!!

If you’re a huge fan of teas, Jasmine Pearl Tea Company is the place for you! The prices are pretty on par with similar local tea shops. However, I definitely think that the quality is a few notches higher than some of the other local favorites such as Stash or Tao of Tea. The shop itself is situated in a old restored building and has a very calm and welcoming ambiance. The service alone justifies the 5 star rating, as the staff were extremely friendly and probably the most knowledgeable that I’ve ever met about various tea varieties and blends. They were even more than willing to brew up samples using the ancient Chinese tea ceremony method of the 7+ teas that I inquired about… hehe(sorry) Some other perks that I’ve found by going directly to the shop: –Teas are all organic –Impressive and inexpensive selection of Pu-erh bricks –About 1⁄3 of the price per ounce compared to buying from New Seasons or Chucks –Spend $ 30 and get a free 16 ounce brew to go

So happy we came here. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. I have been drinking tea for years, and was not aware of how much I didn’t know. The staff was very easy going and educated us as we tried the different teas we selected. We met one of the people that grows the plants and makes the tea and then tried one of his teas. I would strongly recommend this to anyone, those that have been drinking teas for years and those that are just starting. Try the teas, we tried 8 of the teas before purchasing, and were walked through the different notes and best ways to make each.

I found this place after my office moved to the building it’s in. I’ve always loved tea, so I had to try it out. They offer a great selection of teas and tea accessories(including hand made cups and pots made here in Portland). They also offer hot and iced teas as well as tea sodas. I’ve tried the iced teas and tea sodas and the quality is always exceptional. I think the prices are reasonable and the quality is very good. The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company has replaced my afternoon coffee break with an afternoon tea break. The entire staff is friendly and attentive. Bruce is awesome and very knowledgable. Stop by and grab a tea. You won’t be disappointed.

It’s a very nice shop in a nice building. The dark wood they used for much of the interior creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The shelves are full but not overly cluttered. The saleswoman seemed eager to explain their products and recommend the right tea for you. She also offered to allow me to taste some teas so I could pick just the right one. For the uninitiated, the prices seem steep: o) but are on par with other teas of similar quality I have purchased around the United States. If you’re used to buying a box of Earl Gray at the local supermarket, you may be in for a bit of a surprise. A 4oz. bag of Yuzu Black cost me nearly $ 30, for example. If you’re into tea, this seems like a good shop that offers a variety of quality teas in a pleasant atmosphere in Portland.

True tea aficionado’s would appreciate this place for sure! — Good Tea Selection — mostly tea in the purest form, so no super fun, overly fruity, flavored teas. Just tea for the sake of good tea — Knowledgeable staff — approachable — and you can sample the teas before you buy(no minimum purchase required — i think) — Not like a Teavanna or Davids Tea where the tea blends are blended with ‘Natural Flavors’ — Parking around the area is easy

Love it. First time here and you can sample whatever tea you want. You can open any tea you want and smell it instead of asking the workers to smell each. Cheap price for the ounce ! Varies between $ 2 – 5. And that’s a lot of tea cause. It’s weightless. I got teas with health benefits but I’ll come back cause there’s too many to buy but I like the white berry(fruity white tea), the sticky rice puer(yes it smells and taste like rice but no rice in it), and the roasted Yerba mate. I sampled the amaretto and that was good too. Definitely coming back

One of the best if not the best tea shop I have ever been to. I have grown up with tea and even worked as a tea master in the past so I like to think I know my tea. I also can’t stand any tea snobbery and I was so happy to see that these guys just love tea, they are fun happy people here to provide the public with the good stuff! The selections very good from black to oolong, to green, white and even herbal infusions. I also saw some teas I hadn’t seen before which was a nice surprise. All teas are out in tins that you can open to see and smell, this is very helpful. They can serve you samples or full serving there or sell you tea to go at very good prices. They also have a pretty awesome selection of tea pots, mostly made by locals, very functional and very pretty, I love the one I picked up. Overall it’s just a great tea shop, I’m a huge fan and I even picked up one of their awesome«pot head» t-shirts, which you need to see.

Incredible little tea shop with white, black, red, green, and multiple types of Pu-Erh tea(which is where we learned about this good for you, earthy, fermented tea from the informative female staff member who works there). You can sit at their tea bar and sample different types, have a cup, or take it to go(including buying tea for later). We were also entertained by the staffs’ fabulous stories about how teas are created(on the spot mixtures) and named(contests) — like the one for Haiku tea — or about the time someone found a diamond in his tea! This is – no pun intended — a gem of a tea place, and I highly, highly recommend them!

I visited Jasmine Pearl Tea Merchants for the first time a few days ago when I was in Portland. My GPS couldn’t place the address so it took me a few blocks away from it and I found the signs pointing me in the right direction. It was like I was meant to be there. From the moment I walked in the door I experienced excellent customer service. One of the women(Chelsea?) who worked there welcomed me to the store, asked me if I’d been in before, and gave me a very nice orientation to what they do. She was very gracious in answering my questions, which were many. I went in seeking Puerh tea and left with seven different types of tea. She let me sample the teas, which I had never done before in a place like this. I also got to have a chat with Tate, who answered more of my questions about the processing of the Puerh teas. I ended up purchasing two teas as a gift for my Couchsurfing host(she said she loves her teas!): * Bombay Breakfast(2 oz.) — Lively Indian black tea with rose petals, cardamom, and ginger. * Vanilla Chai(2 oz.) — A decadent blend of vanilla-scented black tea and roasted spices. For my own tea pleasure I bought: * Little Red Wheel Ripe Puerh(whole cake) — 2008 Vintage. Lightly earthy and smooth with chocolate notes. * Dehong Ye Raw Puerh(1 oz.) — An lively tea with notes of stone fruit and smoke. A very special 2013 cake, made exclusively for The Jasmine Pearl. * Sticky Rice Scented Mini Puerh Tuocha(2 oz.) — BESTSELLER! A smooth ripe puerh tea scented with Glutinous Rice Herb, an herb that tastes like sticky rice. Savory and aromatic. * Mayucha Sencha Supreme(1 oz.) — Very deep, rich, and full of indescribable flavor, this sencha is extremely satisfying and will leave you wanting more. * Bancha Supreme(1 oz.) — For a superb Japanese Bancha green tea, with light toastiness and great body, look no further. I’m excited to try all these teas and return to the Jasmine Pearl when I am back in Portland in a few months.
