Very good, plentifully-stocked phở, with a rotating $ 5 daily special. Rich, creamy, sinfully thick Vietnamese coffee. Great value for lunch.

Damn I totally thought I was going to get an FTR on this joint. It’s a new restaurant in the closed old Ngoc Han Bun Bo Hue spot. It’s equally as empty and the phở(as well as the guy working there) is eerily identical to the phở from the old Ngoc Han days. The big difference is that the menu doesn’t have any bun bo hue on it. Phở, rice dishes, chicken, pork, etc… your standard Vietnamese fare is on deck here. I suspect that phở is the way to go, but the phở here is just standard. The broth is a tad on the sour side, which always makes me a little suspicious. The cost is $ 6.50 and the portion is somewhere between your average medium and large. The beef serving is decent size. And the owner seems nice enough. Probably not crazy excited to come back. The only reason I really visited before was for the bun bo hue(had never been impressed by the phở).

I honestly can not give a good review for this restaurant… I can not find any redeeming quality in them. So the other day, I was driving around 82nd, and I noticed that this place has taken over the old Bun Bo Hue place. There was a large grand opening banner hanging outside. I noticed that despite being their grand opening day, the place was pretty much empty… except for one table… filled with their staffs. Against my better judgement I sat down and ordered their ‘Super Bowl’ which is a bowl of Phở with everything thrown in… I loved it when I ordered it at Phở Hung or even Jin Wah… and I was hoping that they can make a decent bowl of Phở… Well… the soup was tasteless… I mean no taste whatsoever… in any other place, before the soup even come out, the room is usually filled with the smell of the beefy soup and all the spices… here? nothing! Nada! Zip! No beefy aroma whatsoever… and the soup was tasteless, the noodles was undercooked… and the beef… has a extremely off and gamey taste… which will only occur in extremely cheap cuts of beef… I literally throw in all the hoisin sauce, siracha, and fish sauce I can in there… and still nothing… the soup was tasteless… I serisoly have instant phở that is better then this… Well after two bite, I tried to signal for a waiter or something… no one came… so I just went up to the cashier and pay… Will not be back.
