Hertz Rent A Car

Not a great location although they came to pick us up at the Amtrak station. The car was pretty old. It had 30,000+ miles on it. For some reason we received the car with only 50 miles left in the gas tank. They were not able to return us to the Amtrak station when we returned the car so we walked back. All in all not my typical hertz experience.

I could not have asked for better service. We reserved a car to be available when we arrived at Union Station via Amtrak’s Empire Builder. I called the office, and the staff told me that someone would be there shortly to pick us up, and indeed, they were. We were helped with our bags into a clean, new (5,000 miles) Hyundai Sonata. We drove to the office and filled out the requisite paperwork.
Unfortunately, the person I wanted to add as a driver was not with us, so that required another trip to the office the next day. There were no issues, and it took about 15 minutes.
As I said, the car was new, and even smelled that way. I’m not a fan of the cheaper Hyundais, but this was a serviceable, reliable car that we used for 4 days and put about 400 miles on.
The car was due four days later at 11 AM, but I had time to kill before leaving Portland, so we kept it for an extra couple of hours.
When we returned, we were told that there was no staff to take us to the station, but a cab ride is only $ 6. The manager also told us that if I were willing to drive the car up to the 6^th floor of the garage and fill out a satisfaction survey, he’d waive the late fee (about $ 25). Of course we did that.
We were about to leave, when I discovered that we had left a couple of items in the car, so I hurried back to the garage to get them. Upon coming back, the cab to Union Station was waiting for me, bags in the trunk.
Great service, friendly, and efficient.

Seriously the worst location of any Hertz I’ve ever encountered. The car was a dirty mess, the woman at the counter was rude and not helpful, and they gave me zero instructions on how to get to the car (go outside, to the next door, and take the nasty, stinky elevator to the top floor and then hunt around to find your car because it’s not in the space they have marked. Oh, and the parking ticket needed to get out is stuck between the sheets of your rental agreement.). Shocking that Hertz let’s this location get away with this. Read reviews on the Hertz site after my experience, and they «average» the star rating (I gave them a 9 because my bill was accurate. the rest were 1s and 2s). Mine came to 3 stars but should have been 1. Horrid.

By far the worst rental experience I’ve had, and I rent cars very frequently.
Staff at this particular location was unfriendly and not helpful, especially considering I had some deposit issues, which I’ve never been charged before. I’ve rented from Hertz several times and never had an issue. I could have rented a car with a similar deposit at Enterprise for $ 75 cheaper and they would have been pleasant.
Parking garage is horrible, and extremely narrow. Exiting I almost got hit by a gentlemen, who started to swear at me even though I was going slow and waiting around turns and he was speeding through the garage. I imagine he was probably staying or working at the hotel across the street.
Furthermore, I was told they would be open and they are not today (it is Easter) which is completely understandable. What is NOT understandable is that I had to talk to 6 customer service representatives to discuss after hours drop off. What is NOT understandable is that I am supposedly going to be charged an EXTRA DAY even though I’m returning vehicle before it is due because it is «after hours.»
I will never be renting from Hertz again, and if for some reason I have to… It will not be this location. Your staff needs to work on customers service skills, or just learn some basic manners on how to talk to people would be helpful.

$ 89 quote turned into $ 260 for 24 hours — nope! Came here because enterprise was sold out for the day — no wonder everyone takes their business elsewhere… Stay away.

I just called them to rent a car, and the phone service was rude and difficult. The woman on the phone sounded annoyed that she even had to speak to me, and was patronizing. All in all, a thoroughly unpleasant experience that made me glad I can simply book a car online instead of dealing with her again.

Upon return, the guy tried to get me to sign a statement that said the car was damaged. He circled a tiny, tiny nick on the windshield with a florescent grease marker. About the size of a grain of sand. He asked that I sign his paperwork, saying he really didn’t know what it said, but that if they had any questions they’d call me. The document said that I acknowledged doing damage to the vehicle. I refused to sign it. Sounds like a huge scam trying to bill my company hundreds of dollars for repair work that they would probably never get fixed. They should be shut down. No, I didn’t sign the paperwork. I’m a Hertz Gold Member and I’m questioning their ability to manage their facilities.

We are on our honeymoon and I don’t understand why we have to waste so much time and money to get a clean car from this company. We booked online and picked up from the Portland location. We were not given the opportunity to see the car before we got into it. This location keeps the cars on the roof in a darkly lit death trap of a parking garage. Once we got off the lot it didn’t take long for us to notice all the all the dirt and crust on the car including the bird shit in multiple places and the sand, sticks and leaves on the floor mats. My husband had to pull into a gas station to clean the side mirrors because it wasn’t safe to drive.
We called Hertz customer service and inquired about exchanging. They wanted to direct us to a location 3.5 hours out of our way and we told them that simply wouldn’t work. They then connected with a close location in Tigard, OR and said the manager would be reaching out to us and make sure we were well taken care of.
The manager at the Tigard location chose to make this whole situation even worse. She explained that in order for us to get a new car it would be an extra $ 10 per day but that would also include feature upgrades like cruse control and a key fob that the 2015 we currently had didn’t feature. (Why doesn’t a 2015 have these?)
Then we went to pick up the car (wasting our precious honeymoon time). We called and gave them advance notice that we were in our way as requested. The manager wasn’t there when we went to pick it up which wasted more of our time because she didn’t relay any of our information to her employees on duty. While we were there we inquired about applying a coupon to cover the cost of the exchange (why are we being charged for your faults and wasting our time in the first place blows my mind)
and were told to try at the end of our trip because they don’t have the capability of applying it at this location.
Then we got the new «clean» car. The employee noticed how dirty it was on the outside and gave us a coupon for a car wash so we could go clean it ourselves… WOW. We got into the car and immediately noticed the mediocre cleaning job… Sticks and crumbs… Even 2 pennies on the floor.
Then the keys didn’t work… We asked the employee for help. He explained to us they gave us the wrong car. We moved all of our items into the new car. Same thing… Badly cleaned crumbs and a hairy dash.
We called to inquire about turning the car in because the service has been horrible. They said since we booked online with Orbitz we would have to call them. So we called Orbitz and they said we needed to call Hertz. The Orbitz customer service representative called Hertz on our behalf… Which got us no where so we had to call the Portland location.
The Manager waved the $ 50 fee the Tigard location charged us (which is them charging us $ 10 per day for 5 days when we will be only using the upgraded car for 3 days) and will be comping half a tank of gas.
Never ever will I use this company again even if it’s free. I will be sure to tell everyone about his horrible horrible experience.

Eek! MeKNOWS not! ABSOLUTELY NOT, NO, NAY, NEVER, NO MORE!!!
Our experience ‘renting’ at this place was the worst customer service ever. As Gold members (haha) of Hertz, we rented in advance (⁹⁄₈), PREPAID, scheduled to pick up at 11:30 am on ⁹⁄₁₃. We needed to get our son to the airport by 12:30 pm and then head for a client meeting on the coast at 4 pm.
With our bags packed and checked out, sitting waiting in our hotel lobby, my husband walked the half-​mile or so to the rental office and arrived there around 11:15 am. There he was blithely told that they had no cars (!) and that they would call for one from the airport but it would likely take an hour to get one. We explained our predicament, that we had to get our son to the airport and were met with an «I really don’t care… that sounds like a personal problem» type attitude. Back in the hotel lobby, I got on the phone with the Hertz Customer Service #, who told me they would investigate and have a rep call me back with a resolution. I also asked whether they could deliver the car to us at the hotel, as my husband had walked to and from the rental office already. They said «no.»
No return call from the «customer service specialist». Called the SW Pine office again in an hour, as instructed, meanwhile sending off our son to the airport in a cab which cost almost the amount of our 4-​day rental. We were told there was no car and no idea when there would be one, that they «would call» us when our car arrived (remember, our PREPAID car). I pointed out that their office closed at 2 pm, and it was already past 12:30.
Called the 800 # again, as still no return call. Got another run-​around, and another promised return call to address our issues. Waited another hour, now it’s 1:30, and remember, rental location closes at 2 pm. We had called there again twice to check and see if car had come in. No. My husband walked BACK over there, and was met with the same lackadaisical, rude, unhelpful, «I’m just waiting till it’s 2 o’clock so I can close, and I don’t have to deal with you» attitude. Meanwhile, me on phone again with 800 Hertz. We are rather at their mercy as this is a Sunday, and we are downtown.
But fortunately for us, my husband had spied an Enterprise Rental across the street on his second foray to this miserable place, and he took a walk over there, and had a beautiful, brand new Altima, clean and ready to go within 15 minutes. Cheaper than Hertz too, and HELPFUL (what a concept!), kind, caring customer service. Meantime, I got on the phone for the 4^th time to 800 Hertz, this time to cancel our reservation and effect a refund to our credit card. My 4^th representative offered me the cancellation (no apology…) and told me she would send an e-​mail detailing same and the refund of our prepayment. Naturally, we never got an e-​mail, and the refund was not on our credit card when we returned home. I had to go through my credit card company to dispute the charge. Even after our miserable treatment, we still had to go the extra steps to get a refund for the car we never got.
Enterprise was wonderful. Hertz was irresponsible, uncaring, unpleasant, inefficient, and a huge bummer. Don’t ever go here if you are expecting a good experience.
And yes, Enterprise says they get customers ALL THE TIME from their lousy competitor across the street.
We had a similar Hertz experience in downtown Los Angeles last year, but at least they tried to help us, and finally managed to get us a car from another location several hours later.
Thank you for listening to my rant. It made me angry all over again writing this, and yes, we were late for our client meeting at 4 pm. If Hertz had met their obligation, we would have been in place, waiting for the clients to appear, by 1:30 pm latest.

Had no problems at this location whatsoever. Yes, the parking garage is cramped, and it takes some time to get up/​down given that the cars are on the 6^th floor of the garage. But, I found it no worse than the valet entrance at my hotel in Portland and only slightly more cramped than some of the airport locations I’ve rented from.
The staff were friendly and we were on our way within a few minutes. After hours return was simple. Car was clean and otherwise as expected for a rental car.
I’ve rented cars from almost all of the major companies and overall find Hertz to be the simplest to deal with (at least once signing up for their frequent renter program). There’s not much else to say, but I felt obliged to write a positive review since it seems that most people only review this location when they have something bad to say (including those who damage rental cars and then think that for whatever reason they aren’t liable for the damage…)

I don’t usually write reviews, but this place warranted one. I had the vacation from hell… Missed trains. Rented a house in the wrong area. Purse stolen. But the only thing good about it was this Hertz. They were so helpful. They dropped off the car to us even though we were way off schedule. They let us keep it longer without any extra charge. They were polite, professional and caring.

You get what you pay for… Paid 57 dollars for 5 hours to take a quick trip. Our car was awful. Gas tank not even half full. It was 98 degrees in traffic. The AC literally got us to 95 degrees. I was miserable. My first time renting a car, but I’m pretty sure you should have a better experience.

Almost 3 months since my miserable experience with Hertz and Nothing has been resolved! When social media asked me for copies of receipts and invoices I sent them the same day! It’s been almost two months now and they haven’t responded to receiving the information they’d asked for.
Honestly, I have never (Thank God) done business with a company run as poorly as Hertz. I’ve done everything they’ve asked for –for a fair resolution, to no avail. It looks like I’m going to have to suck it up, pay them what their demanding, and try not to think about it again. But you can bet if I ever hear anyone needing a rental or hinting at using Hertz, I will tell them my experience and caution them to go elsewhere!
In fact, the older couple that where in the office during my experience couldn’t believe how poorly I was treated. They told the assistant manager that they were platinum members for many years and after witnessing the way I was treated they were going to cancel their membership.
If I’ve seemed to hold a grudge here, it’s been from extreme frustration of being ignored by Hertz and having to pay an ungodly amount of money to them for something that never should have happened in the first place if they’d run their business professionally. I’m planing on telling my story to the local news channel who looks up businesses that wrong the public. They shed light on their practices and investigate the problems.

I’m surprised st the poor reviews of this place. The customer service was really top notch both tines I was in the office. They helped me clear off some extra fees, got me out quickly and we’re very polite. I had a car for 4 weeks as I moved to Portland and my car was being shipped my the easy coast. I never had a problem with anything and found this office to be in a great location with really nice staff and efficient service.

Got top notch service. Can’t beat the location if you want to avoid paying to park at your hotel and you only need the car for a day. Plus, they have an after hours drop box.

The employees were not very kind to customers while I was sitting in the office. Snappy attitudes and just telling people no is not great customer service. I will rent from someone else next time I visit.

I had a horrible experience with Hertz this year.
I was rear-​ended mid July and State Farm was the at-​fault insurance company who’d cover the rental car. I scheduled a morning car pick-​up with a Hertz representative at Sharp Auto Body on SE 26^th and Gladstone on Wednesday, August 6^th at 10am. I had to work at 11am and still needed to grab a quick breakfast but I knew the transaction was quick because I had rented from Hertz the previous year. Well — not this time. The Hertz representative was 20 minutes late. On top of that his mind was all over the place — probably nervous from being so late. He looked like a child. He seemed like it was literally his first day of work and slowly went through the steps as he tried to remember them all. He took my credit card information for the deposit and sent me on my way by 10:45. I was late to work with an empty stomach.
A few days later, a pending transaction on my account of $ 112 from Hertz interrupted my shopping at the store. When I called Hertz, they said this is for both the car deposit AND the gas deposit, which I had already told the representative that I would fill the tank. The previous year, the deposit wasn’t more than $ 50. Neglecting to tell me that they’re going to withhold $ 112 from my account is not okay.
I return the rental car weeks later on Tuesday evening, August 26^th; Hertz probably got the car the next day ⁸⁄₂₇. After assuming everything was taken care of and seeing that the $ 112 was no longer pending, I go on my way and recycle all paperwork regarding the rental.
The morning of Thursday, September 11, a group of 7 friends and I are at a restaurant and I agreed to pay for breakfast and my card was declined because Hertz took $ 467.04 from my checking account. I assumed this was a mistake because I knew I had returned the car without any damage and State Farm was supposed to pay. Aside from that, I have never been more embarrassed in a restaurant, holding up a line of people with everyone looking at me because I’m not able to pay the $ 97 restaurant bill.
I immediately call Hertz at 10:30am and a woman answers and is unable to help me. She claims everyone who can help me is busy but she’ll take my information and someone will call me as soon as possible. Nobody called me that entire day and my account was overdrawn for over 24 hours.
I called back the next morning, Friday September 12^th. A man answers the phone and has the most difficult time helping me. He can’t find record of my rental by my name, credit card on file, insurance claim number, or time of car pick up. I didn’t have Hertz’s claim number because I threw away the paperwork. After a few more calls, a lengthy conversation and waiting, they finally find my information — still unsure as to why the search engine couldn’t pull up the claim — and discovered that the kid rock star who gave me the rental entered this as a ‘self-​pay’ rather than billing State Farm. It will take seven to ten business days to get my money back.
I have nothing more to say about this.

Car rentals– meh. They’re all the same. Customer service… not so much!
The rental was fine, and in good condition. Aside from the noxious smell from the cleaning chemicals in a damp car. I was pleased with it. However, the return is where I ran into some serious issues. There was an older gentleman that was clearly in training. He made a mistake while checking me out and charged me for gas. A more senior employee came to help, but practically reprimanded the poor guy in front of me. I felt bad for him. Then I was told that there was no way to reverse the charge immediately, and that it will take about 10 business days. Working in customer service myself, I know how this goes sometimes, so I dealt with it. Here we are almost two weeks later and I didn’t see the charge reversed, so I gave them a ring.
I asked for the manager, and he was the person on the line when I called. I told James the situation, and he began to explain that the paperwork for the reversal was submitted at the end of last week. I tried to ask some questions, and he rudely spoke over me. I was never once rude on the call, spoke up or even acted angry. He never apologized, but rather said that this was «an unfortunate situation since he was on vacation.» I did mention (with out sass) that I’m not in a predicament since I have to pay for this on my card in the meantime, and that it was their mistake. He stated he could give me a certificate towards a purchase of another rental… but that it’s a tit for tat situation if I don’t need a car. Again– with no empathy. There really isn’t any reason that paper work should have waited.
Here’s my suggestion– get some customer service skills. Be kind. don’t talk over people. especially if you’re a man speaking over a woman and you just sound like you’re trying to be a pushy guy. And most importantly– be empathetic. In a world with Unilocal,you’re not doing yourself any favors. But hey– I wouldn’t be too thrilled to work at a car rental place either.
One last thing– the parking garage they keep their cars in here is shaaady! I work right around the block so it was convenient. But it’s almost as though they chose this garage in hopes you get in an accident in it. It’s «two-​way» with one lane switch backs. Mirrors everywhere in hopes you don’t wreck. The worst!

I’ve been a Hertz Gold Club member for over 15 years and have always experienced the best service and rental car experience until coming to this location. I booked my car rental 2 months in advance before coming to the US. When I arrived at my allotted time, I couldn’t open the front door. Yes it was locked even though I could see customers inside the office. I knocked several times and a minute or two later, one of the employees opened the door. They did appear busy and I waited about 10 minutes, which was fine. I wasn’t in a hurry. I sat down with the male associate and he proceeded to take my license and credit card and fill out the paperwork on the car. After about 5 minutes he announces he only has one car available, a Ford SUV, and that he’ll give it to me for the same price as the economy car that I originally reserved and that my rental agreement was complete and his coworker was going to get me the keys.
Um, huh? «I don’t want an SUV», I said. «Well that’s the only car we have and I just finished all the paperwork so you have to take it.» he said. «I don’t HAVE to do anything.» was my response. «I always rent Toyotas from you guys and I want to rent a Toyota or other Asian car or no car at all.»
The really odd thing was, the associate didn’t offer to call up another Hertz location for me to see if they had any other cars, he just acted completely helpless and shrugged his shoulders like there was nothing more he could do.
And then three redneck male customers waiting their turn in the office started giving me grief about not wanting to rent an American car, I mean they were relentlessly rude, so I walked out of this Hertz office and straight over to Enterprise (not before telling those hillbillies to mind their own business) and rented myself a nice Asian car for a month and got almost 43mpg.
The gals at Enterprise told me they keep getting all of the downtown Hertz’s customers because they are so unprofessional. It was my first time renting from an Enterprise and it was great, even cheaper than my original price quote from Hertz too. And who needs that sort of aggravation.
My advice? Don’t waste your time at this location. Either go kitty-​corner to Enterprise, or find another Hertz location besides this one.

Flew in from LAX and decided to pick up a car from this Hertz location instead of PDX, where they charge hefty airport fees, taxes and other random fees. It saved me well over 30% of the total rental charges to come here instead of picking up at PDX — all for a cost of $ 2.50 and 1 hour of my time. Well worth it!
From the airport:
I took the TriMet MAX Red Line from the airport straight to Skidmore Fountain, which is a 40 minute ride and cost $ 2.50. From Skidmore Fountain station, I walked east on SW Ankeney, past Voodoo Doughnuts and then left to 3^rd St to finally arrive at Pine St.
The Hertz office had construction work going on, so it certainly didn’t look like your usual Hertz station. The location is central, and the cars are parked at level 6 above the office. It is a old building, and the parking garage can be time consuming to drive down (or up, upon returning the car).
The staff were friendly and I didn’t have any issues when picking up the car, nor did they delay or fuss about anything upon the return. Would gladly return here.
