Hertz Rent A Car

I am a frequent car renter for my business and the company I usually rent from simply did mot have cars. So I thought I would test drive a competitor. First this location is stuck in the back of a hotel that is inconvenient to get to. Then I endure hard sell of insurance & gas. Unbelievably crappy service. Then I am told it is not a 24 hour rental because if I don’t have the car back by closing, I would be charged for the entire weekend. So I jam together my out of town meetings. Get the car back an hour plus before closing and there is a sign on the door to wait as no one is in the office. It’s been over 30 minutes. Really? Hertz will not be my primary company nor my fallback rental company.

Guy named Kyle wording at this Hertz location basically just stole $ 70 from me. Do NOT trust him. He is a liar and a scam artist. I will NEVER rent from Hertz again.

My worst car rental experience ever. First my car wasn’t ready on time, then when I picked it up hours after I needed it, «Bill and Ted» behind the counter were a joke. When I confirmed what time I would be dropping off the car (Saturday afternoon), Kyle (his real name) failed to tell me they would be closed and would need to use express drop — an additional charge I was not informed of — so they could charge me 2 extra days for the car to just be sitting in their lot. Additionally, for the week after I had over $ 600 in pending charges from Hertz — when I called Kyle to ask about it, he proceeded to yell at me and told me he would not be refunding me the extra day I was charged. One quick call to corporate and the problem was solved — but beware of the idiots that run this broom closet tucked in the back of a hotel.

I rented a car from Hertz for a couple of hours. I made my reservations via Hotwire the night prior, and it was very inexpensive. It was walking distance from our AirBnB.
Downfalls and poor first impression:
— long wait to get service
— unorganized
— computers working slowly or not at all (she kept switching desks!) — one printer had paper, one didn’t
— return @ 5pm — that’s when they close, if at this same location
— terribly located INSIDE the hotel (I’ve stayed at the hotel too, not great!)
— limited car selection
— location is closed on weekends — wtf?
— did not notify that I wasn’t allowed to get my own gas in Oregon, an attendant does it for you (that would’ve been nice to know)
…i paid for an entire day, but if I wasn’t able to turn it in the same day, they would charge me over the weekend, or I could turn it in to the Hertz location in the city… and pay extra to get back to my hotel. Boo! Luckily I made it on time, but it was pushing it, for sure.
I do have to say that the car was a basic model, got us where we needed to go. The woman who helped us didn’t seem nice or friendly at first, but she got better. She gave a great suggestion route to take up to the falls. She did apologize for not notifying us about the gas attendant.
The process was longer than I wanted to — but we got what we needed and it is what it is.

Unbelievably terrible customer service and extremely difficult to work with. This review is for Aaron (Erin? sp?), as he is the only person I dealt with. It is my understanding he is the manager of this location.
I could not afford to pay insurance on the rental car for an unknown period of time while my car was in the shop for repairs. I agreed to pay for two days of the cheaper insurance, and I was assured that it was totally fine to pay for a specific number of days, even if I needed the rental longer than that. A week later, I return the rental because I have my own car back, and the next day I am charged for a week of insurance coverage from Hertz. Whaaat?
Aaron was practically unreachable by phone. I called and left message after message and never heard back from him. When I finally did catch him in the office, he basically told me that it was my own fault for getting charged incorrectly and there was nothing he could do. He was condescending and rude. I persisted and demanded a refund. He eventually agreed to issue it and said it would take 2 – 3 weeks to process.
Two MONTHS later and the refund had still not been issued. Again – tons of phone calls and tons of messages left for Aaron, but no call back. (Another note, no one else at the office could speak with me about my issue??) When I finally reached him, he said he was «still working on it.» I asked if there was a number for corporate customer service he could give me so I could speak to someone else, and he said that Hertz does not have corporate customer service. I said I found that hard to believe, thanked him for his time, and hung up. Then googled Hertz customer service and found the corporate number in like, two seconds.
The guy I spoke to via the 800 number for customer service was very friendly and took care of my issue immediately.
TL;DR Aaron, the manager of this location, is a manipulative, evasive, shady, bully. Don’t go with Hertz.

Really terrible. When we picked up the vehicle the guy was in a hurry to leave and pick up another customer. He rushed us into doing our inspection and we then found out the car had less gas than they stated. When we came to return the car, there was no one there. The key drop off outside asked us to place the keys in an envelope and write down some info on it, but there were no envelopes provided. I wanted to extend my reservation for one day, but could not get a hold of anyone on the phone to discuss the rates with.
Spend a little more and rent somewhere else.

I reserved a rental car on
out of the Crowne Plaza Hertz for a week long vacation in the Gorge. The morning I was suppose to pick it up, I called to ask for an earlier pickup time. The call was routed to the SW Pine location. They said I should have the car by early afternoon. I was cool with that. I had to wait two hours for my car last year, when I picked it up at the SW Pine location. The remote locations usually have cars delivered from PDX.
I received a call from a Gentleman at the Crowne Plaza office 20 minutes later. The gentleman said that I would most likely not have a car available that day! He said I would be placed on a waiting list, but my chances of getting a car were slim! Hertz had a shortage of rental cars in Portland!!! The gentleman said he would call back with an update, which he never did. I had to call him. He did not seem bothered by this problem. He did not offer any alternatives or suggestions on how this problem could be resolved. I called Hertz Customer Service to complain. They offered no help whatsoever. I even called the PDX Hertz and left a message, which was never returned. I made one final attempt with Hertz. and called the Beaverton office. They were unable to help, but I give them kudos on their customer service! They tried! I tried finding another car through a competitor, but was unable too. There was also a huge shortage of rooms available in Portland that night.
Because of Hertz, I had to cancel my vacation, and fly home that night (last seat on Southwest to the Bay Area at three times the cost!!!). I called Customer Service, when I returned home, to complain about their error, and they did not offer anything to make-​up for this error. I will never rent from Hertz again.
If you are thinking about reserving a car out of the Crowne Plaza location, think twice!!! Not only is the customer service sub-​par, but you might not have a car waiting for you there!!!

Took 45 minutes to help 1 customer while 2 more waited in line. Bring your book, a lunch and a pillow. I’m expecting another 90 minutes to get my car that I reserved for a specific time which has come and passed.

As others have mentioned, it’s a small location located inside Crowne Plaza hotel. The attendant was away so there is a sign on the door to give them a call if anyone needed help. He was away both, when we went to pick up the car and return it.
What frustrated me most was that the guy helping us charged us insurance on our rental without even asking! Beware of hidden charges. I would not rent from this location again.

I rent cars several months a year… it’s a long story. Another long story is that most of my life I assumed Hertz to be so high-​priced I never looked at them
Times have changed. Here are some tips: 1. Rent from this office and avoid the
airport taxes 2. Ask for Christy at this office. She merits ten stars. She’s helped me
a dozen different ways. 3. If you have AAA, check the AAA discount 4. Read tip number two again, Christy has turned me into a Hertz devotee.

I went to Hotwire and rented a car. They hooked me up with Hertz when I got off the plane I was informed there would be a 30min delay due to a gas truck not arriving? I asked at this time what was the charge for an extra driver, who was under 25, I was thinking of adding my friend. They said at the time they would let me know when I go my car. So I wait for not 30 but 55 min. When I get up the Manager Al say don’t worry sorry for the delay we will waive the charge, and give you $ 100 in coupons toward your next rental. And gave me my contact. So I left had a great weekend, during which time I looked for the coupon which wasn’t there. No big deal he did waive the extra driver and under age allowance, I thought. When I brought my car back, they printed out a reciept and said you can go. I didn’t check until I got home but they didn’t waive the fee. So I emailed Hertz who said they would get back to me asap. 1 week later no word so I called Hertz 800 number waited 20 min to be told I had to call the local branch. I called talked to nice woman who said she remebered that day and would take care of it. 2 days later 60 show up in my account yay, wait I was charged 137.12 so I called back. This time I talked to Al who assured me he would check it out and give me a call back. Yeah we’re another week in and no call back. So I’m on the phone right I’ve been waiting 10min so far and will wait to speak to Al again. I will look around for a better company. I hear nothing but good things about Budget and Avis.

I’ve just got to say… WOW!
I spent hours trying to rent a car from a competitor, only to not receive my proper reservation and was treated horribly by their customer service…
So… it was a breath of fresh air to, at the final minutes of closing, walk in to this hertz location.
Colby at the front desk was amazing… you could tell it was just about time for everyone to get home, however she stayed and was completely helpful and totally sweet. I will be recommending hertz from now on. With that i will never look to another car rental place for rental services again.

The first part of my rent-​a-​car experience sucked. This Hertz is located inside the Holiday Inn near the Convention Center. I was having some problems with public transportation in Portland (although I don’t doubt it’s good — I just didn’t want it to take 45 minutes to go 5 miles), so I was so excited to have signed up for a rental car online just 1.5 hours before the place closed for the weekend. I was conveniently staying at the Holiday Inn, therefore I was thrilled at the convenience of wandering downstairs to pick up my car. WRONG.
I got to the Hertz window downstairs and the window was mysteriously closed with a sign that said they would be back shortly and to call some cell phone # for assistance. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my cell phone because who would need their cell phone in the hotel lobby of the hotel they are staying in? I was truly bummed out because I was starving and part of the reason I rented a car was so I could get to the pizza place I wanted to go to sooner. By now it was around 5:00 (I gave them a chance to process my order before going downstairs). I sat downstairs for around 15 – 20 minutes and no one came. So I decided to wander over to the main lobby to see where the hell the people were. (I’m a nice person — but this whole experience was seriously ridiculous). I happened upon a hotel employee on my way over, and when I told him about the sign he said «that’s strange — they are ALWAYS there.» Well how convenient that they aren’t when I am starving and waiting for a car to get food. So he goes back over to the rental car area with me to view the alleged sign — he was very nice.
SURPRISE! The dudes were back. And I do mean DUDES. You can imagine how lucky I felt at this point to now have a couple of doofuses at the window. I have to take that back for a moment — because one of them — although still a doofus, was quite nice. I will not bore you all any further. In a nutshell, they had to go get the car which literally took almost ½ hour. The guy that stayed behind kept trying to upgrade me to an SUV. AS IF. He was trying to tell me that an SUV would be useful if I was planning on hauling any large items around town. I am staying at a hotel, and my drivers license said I was from California. What does he think I am hauling around Portland right before I get on a plane??? I didn’t get out of the place until almost 6:30 because they kept helping people before me (which I still don’t understand because clearly I was waiting the longest). And to top it off my car smelled so badly like cigarette smoke that I almost gagged when I got in the car. I am allergic so I am quite sensitive. I gave it an extra star because they were really nice to me at the airport when I returned the car.
