I wanted a pour over when I came up to visit them. I get why they use machines but it takes the fun out of specialty coffee. I mean, for the price, I can make my own. I still don’t think machines can rival an experience barista. Being at a café, I want the baristas to pour a beautifully crafted hand drip.
But I did realize that most Portland coffee shops use machines now. Beans are still great.

I HEART you! You have my HEART! I left my HEART in Portland! Absence makes the HEART grow fonder. And now that I’ve run out of cliché, yet completely applicable HEART quotes, regarding heart, the coffee shop, let me tell you what I actually think about this place.
I LOVE YOU HEART. I truly do. After learning that we would have about an hour and a half wait for brunch at Tasty & Alder across the street, my girlfriends and I decided to skip across the street to heart to have some coffee and chit chat as girlfriends do, while we waited for our brunch table. The menu is simple with coffee staples such as latte, macchiato, americano, cappuccino, so on and so forth. But their coffee is nothing short of amazing. Add their homemade almond/​cashew milk, and I had one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had in my life! The vanilla latte with almond/​cashew milk was absolutely heavenly, and the spicy chai with a shot of espresso and almond/​cashew milk was just the right amount of spice and creaminess. It was heaven.
The staff were informative, personable and warm and the ambiance was industrial, yet intimate and cozy. I can’t stop thinking about their coffee and wishing that I could go back. It’s no wonder that HEART stole my HEART and while I’m here in Hawaii, there’s a little piece of my HEART still back in Portland.

This place has all the right vibes you’d expect from a Portland coffee shop. The coffee here is amazing, as even places in San Francisco have started serving it (as I’ve quickly discovered). Although I’d imagine this place to fill up pretty quickly since it’s not the biggest of spaces, the large windows allow for lots of natural light and plenty of people watching. You really can’t beat the atmosphere here, as all the baristas are also super friendly and as hipster as anyone you’ll meet.
Overall, a great place with great coffee, tasty pastries, and good vibes. That means a ⁵⁄₅ in my book.

We ordered two Heartwarmers. $ 4.50 each. They were unusual and inspired but not particularly suited to my taste buds. The Barista described it as a «chai without the chai flavor». It has habanero oil, cardamon and orange flavors.
Cute atmosphere, busy on the snow day but fun to hang out.
The staff were pleasant and didn’t seem annoyed to answer questions. They seemed engaged and warm in their knowledge and explanation of products.

Yummy coffee! Typical Portland coffee shop vibe… which is great and one of the reasons I visit Portland often! Overall it was a small serving and not my favorite. Still a great cup of coffee!

Come here for swanky New Portland vibes, expensive but delicious coffee, condescending comments from staff, people watching, scarves, glasses, Japanese tourists, and clean lines. Simple aesthetics combined with soothing white walls make it a very enjoyable experience.

Love the décor, the Portlandia coffee vibe and the location is great, too … but sadly I was less than impressed by their Vanilla Latte ($ 4.50) with their homemade almond/​cashew milk (+$ 1.50). The initial sip was extremely sour and bitter and totally unexpected. Paid $ 6 for a not-​so-​good cup of joe :(I’d come back to try something more classic, like a mocha, but steering clear from their lattes from now on.

Drinks: ⁵⁄₅ The drinks here are given special care. I ordered the «heartwarmer,» a seasonal hot drink with cold press coffee, citrus, cardamom, and other spices. It was creamy and delicious, served with caramelized orange peel on the side.
Food: ⁴⁄₅ Options are few, but there are some fancy items like berry brioche and korvapuusti (Finnish cinnamon rolls).
Interior: ³⁄₅ Small and sparse, with a dingy black mat by the entrance, grey tiling, and a handful of wooden tables and stools facing the window. Power outlets are hard to come by. The white walls and hanging lights brighten it up, and the indie rock adds atmosphere. I have to deduct a star for this: a café with mediocre atmosphere is lacking part of what makes cafes great.
Staff: ⁵⁄₅ Did the owner specifically seek out people with heartwarming smiles and gentle voices who treat you like you’re a special gift to the world?

I found this gem out of spontaneity while waiting for brunch at Tasty & Alders (located right across the street from each other), and I’m glad I did.

I tried their latte and it was delicious with a nutty after taste in every sip. The ambiance is sophisticated yet simple. Baristas are knowledgeable about coffee and meticulously handcraft each drink. Service is friendly and welcoming.

When I came in they didn’t have soy milk! So they used an almond milk or something different. I got a latte and it tasted a little bitter but it was still okay. All the workers were nice and they played good music. Definitely coming back to give it another go.

Our visit at Heart resulted in one of the best hot chocolates that I’ve had in a very long time. Overall, it was a very pleasant (albeit Portlandia-​esque) experience.
The highlights:

I just regret the boy didn’t order their affogato, which I’ve heard such good things about!

This little coffee shop is beautiful inside! I appreciate places that make their own nut milks, but my huge gripe is that it ALWAYS tastes sour when you mix it with espresso. I wanted to love my cashew milk latte from Heart, but I just didn’t. The reason I’m still giving this place such a good review is because we bought some coffee beans to take home to Denver and of the four types of beans we have, Heart remains our favorite to brew. So so dark, rich and velvety!

Since Tasty n Alder was almost an hour wait, Heart caught my eye as it was RIGHT across the street and it happened to be on my bookmarked list of places to go for coffee. Serendipity worked out well — we sipped on our coffee and latte until T&A called us in for brunch. Loved the spacious setup, the high windows, the wooden tables, minimalist décor.
Also, great latte.

I love Heart. The coffee and scones are so good and their minimalist décor makes my heart melt. Heh. They even have cute little plates and mugs!
There are about 5 tables that fit 2 people and 1 big community picnic table. They have free WIFI, but I think you have to ask for the password.
Definitely coming back here again sometime sooooon :)

I had brunch at Tasty n Alder and I needed a coffee place to meet some friends so I suggested Heart since it was so close. When I walked in I fell in love, which is fitting since the name is Heart. I ordered a cold brew and aside from being absolutely delicious, it was the perfect pick me up for a hot summer day. The shop is really open/​airy, super cute and had a really nice minimalistic feel to it.
Portland is known for great coffee places and Heart definitely does not disappoint.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. And Heart does it right! :)
The shop itself is everything you could ask for in a coffee shop: minimalistic décor, natural lighting, and chill vibes. People were catching up with friends, working on their laptops, or just enjoying their coffee.
Drinks are $ 2.50-$ 5. It was very fitting that their latte art was a heart!

My friend who lives in PDX recommended this place to me, so I decided to come on a Friday around 11 a.m. You have to pay for parking in the area, so it’s a good idea to pair grabbing coffee here with doing something else in the area.
I had very friendly service and got some good recommendations about what else to see while visiting PDX. I noticed that they roast their own coffee since I saw bags of coffee for sale with the Heart name by the counter.
I ordered a 12oz mocha which came with latte art and in a ceramic cup with the heart logo. It had a very comforting taste and I was able to enjoy it at one of these cool mini tables right outside the shop. The pastries looked delicious and unique and I was told they were from Bakeshop. I’ll have to try one of those next time I’m here.
This is definitely a solid coffee shop to check out if you are in the area.

Heart is a nice airy café on a nice street situated across the street from Tasty & Alder.
Their minimalist décor still invokes a homey feel, probably from the presence of warm-​inducing raw wood and several strategically placed plants.
Their mocha is great! The coffee portion was not burnt and the chocolate is sufficiently chocolatey.
There was no line. The cashier was quick. The baristas were efficient.
Numerous tables are available for you to park your laptops on.

I was expecting just a little more from Heart, but ultimately was content with my experience.
My familiarity with the brand came from back home in LA, I’ve seen it at some of the specialty coffee shops I go to from time to time. So I knew I had to make one of their locations a destination during my trip to Portland. Therefore, my anticipation to see and experience Heart might have been distorted in some way.
I was hoping to have coffee made with the use of an aeropress but was informed that they only had drip coffee. Nonetheless, the coffee was good; with just the right strength and acidity for my taste.
The staff was friendly and the shop was simple with a cozy feel. It has all the makings of a good morning stop. The shop’s storefront window faces east so you’ll have the morning sun shining through and lightly illuminating its space.
