Happy-Go-Lucky

We’re in the middle of Beginning Obedience and have really enjoyed the classes so far. Our instructor Cam is awesome — really calm/​chill and great with all the dogs, whether they are shy or really spazzy-​excited (like our dog). Like having the homework each week, and definitely plan to continue with another round of classes after this one ends. Definitely recommend!

We had a great experience with Puppy Kindergarten. Susan was our instructor — she knows EVERYTHING about training dogs (and people…), with patience. It was a good price for a small class with lots of chances for socializing.

This was a puppy kindergarten class and we had a good time, Communication is a challenge with this business as they do not have an email contact on their main pages and since it is a smaller place, they do not answer the phone as they are taking care of dogs. The owner does return calls but if you are super busy you will play phone tag. So if you do business here you must be patient and arrange time for contact. I would say that the classes were very well run with great activities and well planned out lessons, with homework assignments and supportive written materials. The instructors were cheerful and helpful, and how could you not have fun with 10 puppies all over the room? OVerall I felt it was a great experience for our family and they have the right space and the right equipment to really help each new puppy learn.

My veterinarian recommended this place for my puppy to go through Dog Obedience. And, we put Remy, our puppy, through the Basic Puppy Obedience, Puppy Intermediate, Basic Dog Obedience, and Dog Intermediate. And, Remy has learned so much from each of those classes. ANd, he has loved & adored all his teachers: Lisa, Ayesha and Susan, and they have been really, really great! I definitely recommend Happy-​Go-​Lucky over other dog obedience places in Portland, we were really happy with the amount of attention and information we received. For anyone that is planning on going through this program in the future – I would definitely recommend being consistent with the Homework every week. That will be a huge factor in deciding how successful your dog will be.

We have had a few different dog training schools but this one is the best. We started with the puppy class and just finished the intermediate puppy. It is amazing the difference this school has made on our dog. Highly recommended

This was a great find when we were looking for a basic obedience class for our new puppy. Fair prices, competent instructors, small class sizes, a few different options for day and time, convenient location. Our instructor was great about quickly catching on to each dog’s individual quirks and knowing how to work with them.
I would have been happier had the instructor kept their breed biases to themselves. Don’t get me wrong, there are breed characteristics that are very relevant to training and I appreciate that kind of insight, but that’s not what we got. It seemed like they couldn’t wrap their head around our dog not being a walking stereotype. Not helpful, not relevant, keep it to yourself.
Leave yourself enough time to find parking. Between the housing in the area and the Crossfit gym next door, it can be hard to come by.

We have had a great experience at our Puppy Kindergarten class at Happy Go Lucky. Lisa and Ayesha helped us become more confident dog owners and are patient, fun and knowledgeable. They clearly love what they do, and we will be continuing on with classes there!

My dog loves classes at Happy Go Lucky. She’s taken puppy kindergarten and puppy intermediate. Susan was our instructor and she’s amazing. I definitely learned a ton of dog handling skills that I never would have picked up on my own. Plus the socialization aspect of classes is excellent. The classes are usually small and fill up quickly.
The most fun part if when my dog runs into dogs she met in class — it’s like a reunion every time! So fun!

I took my adolescent pup here for her training classes. She was by far the oldest in her beginning class (the old age of 11months!) but she didn’t seem to mind. :)
We had trainer Jenna who is as good as it gets in my opinion. I’ve been to other trainers with my other dogs but these guys are the ones I recommend. They are fun, patient, and don’t make you feel like a loser when your dog just doesn’t want to listen.
Highly recommend.

The Intro class was great and we will be back. We learned some great techniques to train our puppy and look forward to learning some more tricks in the more advanced classes. Thanks.

We took our newly adopted 2yo dog to Happy Go Lucky for beginning and intermediate obedience class and I was consistently impressed with the level of expertise of the trainers. Our class was run by Brittan W. who runs a great class and makes efficient use of everyone’s time. She was assisted by Heather who was great about getting around the room to all dogs to help make sure everyone got some personal attention to suggest alternate techniques to match their personal learning style.
In just a few short weeks our spaz monster learned to obey our every command, and we were taught how to continue training him on our own with a wide variety of creative techniques to overcome his stubborn nature. They were never stumped when a dog didn’t want to learn a new behavior so the lessons progressed quickly.
Everyone should train their dog, and I strongly recommend the courses we took at Happy Go Lucky.

We love Happy Go Lucky. Our two-​year old dog graduated from the puppy training program. Gave us the basic skills we needed to raise our dog. About six months agao we started taking our dog to doggy daycare. We do half-​day sessions 3 x per week.
Always great service, reliable, trustworthy. We’ve been late a few times, the owners waited patiently with our dog.
Can’t say enough good about this place. Locally owned, really friendly owners. Fairly priced.
And our dog loves it! When we get near Happy Go Lucky she starts jumping around and wants to run into the building to see her buddies.
Definitely a place for socialized dogs. But it seems like the owners can handle about anything.

Lisa Plymale and the staff of Happy Go Lucky dog training are awesome! We have pretty well trained Australian Shepherds that developed some ‘quirks’ after a challenging move from Colorado, and we looked for some professional help. Lisa gave us a couple of great individual lessons, and we were so happy with the results that we decided to enroll in 2 additional classes for the fun and socialization!

I am happy to say that my dog Lucy is a graduate of Puppy Kindergarten at Happy Go Lucky. It is an absolutely fantastic facility. It is clean and well set up for the work that they do there. We chose a Saturday morning class and I’m not going to lie, it was hard to make it every week, and our dog if anything came out slightly anti social from the whole experience, but with some good training under her little dog belt. I’m glad that we did it.
The trainers know their stuff. The largest problem that I found is that although it is a puppy class, our puppy weighed about 7 pounds at the time and all of the other dogs were much larger. When it was play time, they would section off the area into small dogs on one side and large dogs on the other side. There were no other dogs as small as she was, which made it sort of hard. So the only suggestion that I would have would be for them to have a small puppy class and a large puppy class.
Our dog can sit, lay down, roll over, and come back to us from the whole experience and it was only about $ 150, well worth it.

Happy-​Go-​Lucky is a doggy day care and training facility located in Northeast Portland. I have been bringing my dog for daycare for two years now, and have been quite pleased with the service. The owners are very friendly and conscientious. The place is always spotless, and everyone who works there is great. They all obviously love dogs, and do a great job of supervising the dogs under their care. My dog, Frodo loves it there — when we arrive, he races to the door and practically knocks me over trying to get inside.
Happy-​Go-​Lucky also provides excellent dog training classes. Frodo took Beginning and Intermediate Obedience there, as well as an Introduction to Agility class. They focus on positive reinforcement and taking your dog to a training class there will help you to manage your dog better and create a deeper bond between you and your dog.
