These folks are everything you look for when your not looking to make those big purchases with the bigger guys.

I love Hankins Hardware. They are always very helpful. They don’t act like I’m dumb just because I’m a woman. Even if I just want to buy a couple of tiny eye hooks they act like I am an important customer. Though I do tend to go there on weekdays, there are always 2 or 3 employees around eager to help-I’m sure they are busier on weekends but I really appreciate the store and the staff. Not sure what JW R experienced or why it happened-​but it sounds very foreign to my numerous experiences there.

Had what I was looking for, staff was friendly and nice. A busy little hardware store that is conveniently located off of MLK with their own parking lot.

Always 3 – 4 employees roaming the store, ready to help.
Any fastener on the planet can be found here… but an amazing array of hardware staples are present in this compact space.
Fair prices.
Hope this place never goes away.

I’ve been here twice for last minute construction needs. It was close to my job sites. It’s an ACE so I always expect everything to be really expensive vs a big box store. It seems they have a little bit of everything crammed into that little space. Today I needed pointed in the right direction and I was helped courteously.

This hardware store sucks. I only ever went there because it’s the closest one to my home. It’s too crammed with shelves and displays, the people here are NOT helpful, it’s generally just bad.
«I don’t know what you’re talking about.» That’s high on the bad customer service things to say. I’ve thought that in my head a million times while dealing with customers, but I’ve never, EVER said it out loud. Maybe he was too busy eating popcorn to do his job.
So I left. I walked out. I let the entire store know of my displeasure when Mr Popcorn claimed he was trying to help me (maybe he’s never helped anyone and doesn’t know what that’s supposed to be like), which is not my normal thing at all. But I’d dealt with Hankins’ crap for too long. I’m over it, and I’m over this place.
Beaumont Do It Best, you’re my new hardware store. You’re worth the Car2Go time.

It’s a solid neighborhood hardware store. Good selections of miscellaneous hardware for older homes. My kids love the free popcorn…

Some of the worst customer service I’ve ever seen by a few select employees. There are some that are helpful but there is clearly a group that are mistreated and/​or suffer from depression from having to work there. It’s local so I’ll still go there to pick up what I need in a pinch but it’s rarely a pleasant experience. I recommend avoiding it if you can.

This place is a local treasure. The staff are incredibly helpful and help you get what you need quickly. Prices are reasonable.

I’ve always loved True Value hardware stores and this is another great one. First off, they have free popcorn. I live close by so I’ve actually popped in just for a bag of corn and left and they’re always nice about it. Their prices are very comparable to the big boys, Home Depot and Lowes, but you don’t have to drive to the edge of town and ou get to support a cooperative. It’s also amazing how much they can pack in such a little store. It’s very rare I can’t find what I need.
I dock them one star because their gardening supplies are sub par. They had no sharp hoes, just blunt, cheap ones.

I really want to like Hankins, since they are my local hardware store. I’ve been here a few times when I need something quick for the house. As a small hardware store, they are never going to be able to compete with Home Depot or Lowes in terms of selection or price. So they better have awesome customer service and advice. My experience has been very mixed. I got some good help when selecting heater filters and a few other odds and ends. However I was advised to get a type of paint for my kitchen cabinets that ended up being totally inappropriate for the job. And the staff at the cash register is usually not all that friendly. I’ll continue to return because they are so close to my house, but for a larger job I’m going to unfortunately head to the larger chains just a few miles up the road.

I love having a good-​sized hardware store close to home, but the customer service here has just not impressed me. Hankins Hardware does have a pretty good stock of items, and is always bright, clean, and organized. However, the staff is often kind of rude and dismissive, and many don’t seem to know the store very well.
The thing is, before I lived in the neighborhood, I stopped by a couple of times when I was passing through and the service was great. I remember breaking a bolt on an old bike and they were super helpful in figuring out how to patch it together until I could get to a bike shop (most hardware stores don’t carry the size of metric bolt it needed). I don’t know if they changed management or what.
One of the first times I went, I called ahead to see if they could cut a couple of 2x4s to size for me, and they said sure. I showed up with the wood and was informed that «management doesn’t like us cutting boards for customers», so they couldn’t do it — after I’d lugged the wood there. The next time, I was looking for a particular type of screw and was in a bit of a hurry, and was shown to a huge wall of screws. When I turned around, the employee was gone — didn’t even bother to utter a few words about how the screws were organized, or help in finding the very specific item I was looking for. Another time, I asked where I would find thermostats, and the employee said he would ask. He disappeared and never returned, so I found the (very small selection) of thermostats myself. These are just a few of many examples — I live nearby so I stop in often for an item or two.
I still go to Hankins, I just have lower expectations now. They have a good selection, but you really have to find things yourself, and I don’t expect the kind of friendly, knowledgeable advice I have gotten at other hardware stores.
Also, FYI the lot is VERY small and the parking spaces are really tight. You’re better off finding street parking nearby. If you have a big SUV or a truck it won’t fit in the little side lot — I had enough trouble parking a little sedan in the teeny spots when there were other cars there.

Hankins Hardware is hands down one of the best local hardware store I have ever been to. Between the complimentary popcorn and the vast selection of products, I am always leaving there completely satisfied.
In the work I do I find myself often needing some very specific part or tool, something so obscure or random that I figure I can only find it in one of the big box hardware stores, some place with almost limitless selection. Most of those times, I decide to check out my local store first, and just about every time I am shocked to find it there at a price totally comparable to anywhere else.
While I usually prefer wandering around aimlessly till I stumble upon what I’m looking for, if I’m in a rush, there always seems to be knowledgeable staff available to point me in the right direction.
I find a reason to stop in here a couple times a week to pick something up, and so long as I’m living in the neighborhood will probably continue to do so indefinitely. Between this place and Parr Lumber down the road, I’ve got just about all my home improvement needs covered without having to travel out to big box store land, which is awesome!

I used to love this local hardware store because it was run by highly knowledgeable staff. I love supporting local stores and think the convenience is wonderful but I have to say that the new owners and staff are totally worthless. Not only is the new owner an unfriendly individual the staff has no knowledge of what you need, and how to do certain things, which is what I used to love about the previous owner. I am all for the hiring of individuals who are immigrants but please learn English and learn about the products. If you know what you need and how to do it, it is a great store, if you need help go to Lowes or Home Depot.

The sister ship to Hankins Hardware on Hawthorne, owned by local Lois Hankins, offers the same great service, selection, and remarkably good prices as the other store. They do special orders, and offer a variety of services. I’ve been a Hankins Hardware customer since they opened, they are a great resource for our community!

You know, I live really close to a Home Depot, so ashamedly I end up there decently often when I’m mid-​project and need something. But for a lot of reasons I’d rather shop at a store like this. Why?
1. Friendly people. I strolled in here in search of a tub for a party and I thought I might not be able to find it. The welcoming staff hooked it up, pulling out «the tall ladder» and climbing up to the shelf to grab said tub.
2. Prices. The price I paid for my tub was actually, I think, less than I paid for the same tub at Home Depot.
3. Did I mention the people who work here are friendly? Well they also seem pretty grateful for my business. That’s something I never get at a chain.
4. Shop Local. More of the money I spend here will stay in my community. That means a lot to me.
Yay for a friendly, local, neighborhood business with private parking off MLK that stocked what I needed, when I needed it.

I will go into any hardware store in any olé town. I love them. Everything in a hardware store is so useful. It is encouraging.
Hankins is close to home, and this makes me so happy. I can pull into the parking lot with those great hand painted signs and know I will find what I need.
Everyone is friendly and helpful. Genuine. These really are the most important things. Plus, they have what I need or they will go out of their way to help me find it. Thanks, Hankins.

When I was a little kid, my Granddad would load me and my identical twin into his pick-​up and take us to town with him to run errands. Granddad was a real man’s man: retired from the railroad; salvaged scrap metal; built chicken coops and rabbit hutches; had his own workshop full of tools. He would take us with him to the junkyard, the post office, the feed store, and the best place ever… the hardware store.
Hankins IS your Granddad’s hardware store.
The minute I walk inside this place, I start waxing nostalgic. It’s like a time machine has zipped me back to 1965. It’s the kind of place where you can walk up to the counter with a rusty wingnut and tell the guy, «I need something just like THIS,» and he’ll do his darnedest to find it for you, or send you some place else that does have it.
The service is friendly and helpful. The cash registers are right near the front door and the clerks ask if they can help you find what you’re looking for as soon as you walk in. These are over-​all wearing folks who actually appear to know a thing or two about the hardware they’re selling. Imagine that?
This isn’t a big store, but if you have a toilet to fix, some shelves to mount, or a wingnut to replace, you’ll likely find the stuff you need to get the job done. You certainly won’t get lost in a cavernous warehouse store, where it takes you thirty minutes just to find where they keep the wingnuts.

I am a fan of Hankins!
Whether I’m getting a new key cut, getting energy efficient light bulbs or stripping paint off an ugly painted dresser Hankins is my first stop to get the job done. Friendly staff as well.
