I’m not sure about their menu items(which others seem to really enjoy) but I did order their sushi. Yuck. I ordered items that came with spicy tuna since I love tuna. The tuna«salad» as they called it, seemed like it was tuna fish out of a can mixed with some Sriracha. Nothing was really fresh in it and I threw it out after a few bites. I’ll try the Greek Wok sometime in the future but DEFINITELY not for their sushi.

My husband and I were really excited to come here but ended up pretty disappointed. The service was pretty awful, and I felt like the guy serving wished he wasn’t having to talk to us the entire time. Whatever the filling is in the«crab puffs» was pretty gross. Every single thing on our table was sticky. There was also some sort of sauce at our table that was almost empty and more was on the outside of the container than the inside. It was a quiet night with 1 other family dining at the same time as us, we didn’t come in during a busy time when they didn’t have time to clean up. The teapot was covered with old tea, as well. My man got general tso’s and I got the orange chicken. His tso’s wasn’t terrible(I like fake meat products) and at first everything seemed pretty good(we said«We just won’t get an appetizer next time»). Everything was deep fried, which usually makes everything delicious, but in this case I think it just made the items edible. There were only a few pieces of my orange chicken that were soft enough to stick a fork into, the other ones were so hard I couldn’t even cut them with my fork. My husband asked why I hadn’t eaten more and when he reached over to grab a piece there wasn’t one that would be easily grabbed by a good forking. I have a pretty strong stomach but I had some indigestion afterwards. Two stars because we did finish the tso’s so it’s not like we couldn’t eat the food. We were pretty disappointed considering how many great reviews there were. If you were disappointed like us but still want processed vegan food that’s tasty, go to Native Foods or Veggie Grill.

An all vegan Chinese restaurant! I was so happy to learn of this place, and kept meaning to go! The problem is, I don’t live very close by. In fact, I live 82 minutes by public transportation. Then I found out that they will be closing this restaurant on 2÷10÷2014. I was very sad to hear this. I saw that one of my social groups were having a dining event here, so I had to make the trek here. I am so glad that I got the chance to try this place out. I was hoping to try out the buffet, but they only do the lunch buffet during the week. I had no idea what to order… I mean it’s awesome to have a whole menu to order from! I have heard rave reviews of the crab Rangoon, so definitely ordered those. Was not disappointed. I ordered the eggplant in tangy sauce, and I asked if they could put black mushrooms in with it, and they accommodated me. I should have gotten a different type of sauce. The tangy sauce was just that, a little too tangy for me! A fellow diner shared her corn and tofu soup. Loved the flavor! It was slightly sweet, and the consistency of the soup was reminiscent of egg drop soup… without the egg! The owner gave a little speech at the end of our meal, thanking us for our patronage. He said that they hoped to have another restaurant open in a year or so. Bigger and better! How I hope this pans out! Best of luck in whatever you do, Green Wok!

News on the streets is that Green Wok will be closing indefinitely in a couple weeks, but I thought I would update my review. I stopped going to GW a little over six months ago after three repeat bad experiences with customer service(which was a significant change from my past experiences there, but still with the same server in this small family-run business). Although we were the only seated customers each time, we were treated like an inconvenience and intrusion. I still enjoyed the food, especially the vegan sushi, but there are other places to get creative vegan sushi in this town where you won’t be served with a heaping plate of attitude in addition to your food.

Hello vegan and vegetarian chinese food! Vegan sushi is also served there! Finally meat-free chinese food! Got the sweet and sour chicken, curry chicken, broccoli and beef, [white rice served with the three latter dishes], hot and sour soup(huge for a medium), and complimentary green tea. I thought the service was fine and our server was quick as well as attentive. Lots of food for leftovers among 4 people! We’ve ordered here for take out before and we were still satisfied with our food. Let’s just say this food is good, but not good for you! haha

Our bar is set really high for Chinese food since we had some favorites that are excellent. This review is based on on visit to Green Wok but perhaps there are better items that we didn’t review. Mr Rinky and son thought the food was okay and I though the food was good. All three of us did agree that the sauces were too thick for our tastes. We ordered The Won ton soup – a medium order was enough for each of us to have 3 helpings. The wontons were large and filled with tofu. Although the wontons weren’t seasoned the broth was. I liked it. Broth was filled with carrots, water chestnuts and bok choy. The Chinese Chicken Salad was made of romaine lettuce, cilantro, bits of fried tofu and covered with thin fried noodles and dressed with lemon juice. We liked it. Son ordered General Chou’s «Chicken» which came with ultra crispy«chicken» chunks with a thick sauce and broccoli on the side. I liked the crunch factor and the unchewiness of the«chicken.» The other two Rinky family members thought it was ok. I ordered the Birds Nest with«Chicken» and veggies. The Mr and son thought it was ok — they said some of the potato“nest“ was slightly burnt. I liked it and din’t come across anything burnt. Once again the thick sauce was a little heavy-handed. The Mr ordered tofu and veggies –once again sauce too thick. We also ordered the pine nut rice which we all thought was tasty/ The Mr and son were underwhelmed. I would definitely eat here again if I lived in PDX. Our server was very sweet and welcoming.

This is the kind of Chinese food I grew up eating. Everything was wonderful and also vegan. I recommend the fried shrimp, the ham fried rice, and the General Tso’s. The location is a little retro, but the service was good and friendly. I’ll probably skip the sushi next time; it was just ok.

Where’s the beef? If you like vegan then this place is for you. But unfortunately I like meat so they are not going to get a higher review than say from someone who is into fake looking shrimp.

You know I really liked this place for a while and then I had one bad experience with the food and swore never to come back, but now that I live nearby … well sheesh! Haven’t had any bad experiences since that one time. So, a little background: I don’t really like Chinese food so I can’t really compare their food to other Chinese restaurants and I’ve been a vegan/vegetarian for over 17 years so I don’t know if meat eaters would like this place, but man, the fried«shrimp» here? Yum! I love their orange chicken with the peppers cooked in the sauce and my boyfriend really likes the eggplant in tangy sauce. I also like the general tso’s chicken, hot and sour soup, and broccoli with tangy sauce. Oh, and the wonton soup was nice, but even nicer when I added sriracha. The people(pretty sure a family) who work here are always really nice and helpful too. Green Wok might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s worth a try — especially if you’re looking for some yummy faux-meat products!

Three words. Vegan. Chinese. Buffet.(Upon hearing I squealed like a little girl) So this place really sucked. And I’m sorry to say that. But it’s truly important in the Vegan community to be honest about these things. Our choices are more limited so let’s not steer each other in the wrong direction. I cannot figure out the numerous good reviews Green Wok has. These people have no friggin taste buds. «MMMmhhhmmm mush, I love mush, oh wait is that salt. I like salt and mush, as is this and this. I’ve tried it all now and clearly they’ve cornered the salty mush market!» The food is pre-bought and/or frozen and reheated. Clearly a family owned business, not in a good way. Like a «I should’ve finished college so I didn’t end up running this» kind of way. We went for the lunch buffet. Maybe that’s the problem, but I doubt it. Doesn’t make sense.(storing all of their creative energy and flavor for the dinner rush??) Slimey chow mein, grease drenched tempura, liquidy vegetable rolls. And salty fried rice. We didn’t go back for seconds. We didn’t finish firsts. ITWAS A BUFFET. It was like 6.95. Which probably should have been our first clue. It was crudely kept inside. Our second clue. The buffet had four items and looked like a third the size of any respectable buffet station. Our third clue. Yet we sat. Because of this experience my girlfriend and I no longer have blind faith in fellow Unilocalers. For the love of Christ if you are dumb enough to think this food is good DONTTAKEANANIMALEATERHEREASFAIRREPRESENTATION. They will just leave satisfied. Not by the food. But the fact that they can pat themselves on the back for devouring fleshy moving things since Vegan food is such shit.

Was excited to try this place and their vegan sushi that I’d heard so much about… The online menu looked well put together, I wouldn’t have expected this place to be as dingy as it was. It was your regular hole in the wall chinese place. Their menu was extensive – SOMUCHTOCHOOSEFROM. Which I often don’t like, and it was overwhelming, so instead of dabbling in a little bit of everything, I just stuck to their manageable-size sushi list. First and foremost, their yellowtail nigiri was uncanny to the real thing, I was shocked! It was a little salty, but the texture was on point and it looked so much like the real thing. Looking back that was probably all I should have ordered. Their«salmon» tasted like Field Roast and all the sushi rolls were stuffed with a type of «fish-salad», those were all«meh». The tempura was yummy, but not enough for me to go back and order more sushi. Glad to have tried it once, but if I went back I would definitely have to stick to the regular menu.

Great Vegan and Vegetarian selection of Chinese food at a good value. I ordered food to go on two separate occasions when house sitting in the neighborhood. The young man who was working when I went in the first time helped me to select two popular dishes, one noodle and one vegi stir fry. We enjoyed both of these. When I went back I tried two more dishes that were also quite tasty which leads me to believe that everything on the menu will be good. I’m not sure you would call these super healthy dishes as they did have quite a bit of oil and salt, but they are better than many other«to go» options.

I was a little disappointed with the quality and selection of the lunch buffet, but I came pretty late in the afternoon, and I’ve heard that the sushi is the thing to get here anyway. Service was pleasant and hands-off, price was totally right, and parking was easy. I might come back to try ordering off the Chinese or sushi menu, but probably not for the buffet.

Having just moved from Arizona, I feel like I am in vegan heaven when looking through all the spots Portland has to offer. I am in love with this newfound gem. Clarence, one of the owners and chef is super sweet! He made my partner and I feel so welcome and wasn’t afraid to chat us up. The first time we ordered the potstickers, spicy tuna roll, California roll and another one that I cannot remember. All were delicious, but I have to say the spicy tuna roll was AMAZING! So close to how I remember the real thing being. Their tea is also nice and hot an the atmosphere is pretty hysterical with the 80s décor but somehow it works. The second time we went for the buffet at the tail end and it was good. I’ll probably stick with ordering from the menu from now on because they have so much to offer and everything looks good! Definitely pay this place a visit whether you eat a vegan, vegetarian or omnivore’s diet.

After our second visit, we are done with this place. Hot and sour soup was sad(it was brown and hot, that’s about all you could say about it). The«tangy» sauce on the broccoli was too tangy to enjoy(too much vinegar) and there was so much sauce on the plate that it was practically dripping off the edge. The«shrimp» was rubbery and inedible. There were some positives, but not enough to convince us to return. The potstickers were delicious, the fried sesame chicken was good, and the family style tofu and kung pao tofu dishes were fine. Service was slow(even though the restaurant wasn’t very busy) and bland(neither friendly nor unfriendly). Sorry, Green Wok. It was nice meeting you but the relationship is over.

Green Wok = Super bomb Vegan Chinese food! I’m so happy with the fact that I live in SWPDX and about 5 minutes drive to Green Wok. Everything on the menu are Vegan. Yes, the Orange Chicken is Vegan. So does the Ham Fried Rice. The Kung Pao Beef is also cruelty free. How bout those Crab Puffs? They are vegan too! They have excellent price for lunch buffet. $ 8.95 for all you can eat with delicious options on the buffet table. Since the buffet is only on weekdays, I’ve only been there once. We’ve been there for dinner many times. Our favorites are the Tofu with Eggplant in Tangy sauce, Orange Chicken, Crab Puffs, and Combo Fried Rice. They also have Vegan sushi. We tried the Vegan Salmon Sushi and it wasn’t my favorite. It was good, but nothing close to the real Salmon. We like to dine in there instead of placing to go order because the portion size. For some reasons, if you ordered them for take out you will get less portion than when you dine in. Our last to go order of Orange Chicken was really sad. Only 8 pieces in the box for $ 9.95. You should try this place even if you aren’t Vegan. They serve delicious and comforting Chinese food that are good for you. No MSG and no animal products. Get the Orange Chicken!

A fellow veghead was visiting from out of town, so I anxiously drove out to the Green Wok for a vegetarian extravaganza. I’ve been to events catered by this restaurant and the food was always spectacular. If the food tasted that good in big metal tins, what would it taste like fresh?! I had high expectations. The first disappointment was realizing the lunch buffet was not served on weekends. Oooh well. We turned to the menu which had a ton of options, but I felt like it could have been a bit more exciting. What you get here is generic Chinese-American food, sans meat. I ordered the orange chicken and my friend ordered the sesame chicken. Both our proteins were fried to a crisp– a feature some may find appealing but we found a bit overwhelming. Also fried was the order of spring rolls we crunched into as an appetizer. I prefer the non-fried variety, but these were still good enough. Portions were large and overall the meals were quite tasty. The server was nice enough and the meal was served with tea– a Chinese restaurant staple that is all too often passed over. It certainly is a guilty indulgence and I look forward to hitting up the lunch buffet someday soon! On a side note, while my fortune said something about wisdom and fortune my friends read, «You will be hungry in an hour». Love it.

Joined our friends for holiday lunch at this neighborhood establishment. It’s close to our house, and I’ve only been once before, for take out soup for Mrs. Burgerdogboy; the Mrs. loves her soup. Green Wok is a vegetarian restaurant, and at noon offers a set price buffet as well as the regular menu. It’s a fairly competitive neighborhood for restaurants, we have Baba Fresh, Subway, Baristador’s, the Hummus Stop, a phở place, and of course, my standby — 7-Eleven. My only other experience with a vegetarian buffet in Portland was at the Vegetarian House in Old Town. It was pretty good, as I recall. Glancing at Unilocal or Urban Spoon, you’ll find mixed reviews for the Green Wok, but you will for any restaurant. We give plus points for any locally owned place, on that merit alone. Today, between the four of us, we had a wide variety of foods, including kung pao chicken, noodles, rice, fake sushi, an eggplant dish, mixed vegetables, spring rolls. All in all, it was good. I have to agree with some other assessments I have seen in reviews — by 1pm(when we arrived) the buffet is starting to look sparse. In farness to management, we did not ask if they would prepare more, but I think they would. The faux sushi was good, but the fake fish was not to my taste. I kept thinking it looked like Patrick(from Spongebob’s) tongue. I expected it to wag. The consistency was reminiscent of fish, but it really didn’t have much taste. We shared the ABC roll(avocado, bacon, and c-something), and that was interesting, in a good way. I of course, liked the fried rice and spring rolls. The kung pao«chicken» was pretty tasty as well. Will I go back? Sure.

I came here for my birthday dinner with my pal Lid C and we weren’t very hungry, so we just shared one or two things: Potstickers Spring Rolls Hot Noodle Vegetable Soup Orange Chicken Beef with Broccoli White and Brown Rice Hot Tea Um, yeah. We pretty much ordered enough food for six people. We are gluttons. Happy Happy gluttons. I hadn’t been here since they first opened over a year ago. It was empty for dinner, which sucked because their food really is good and I have a feeling if they were centrally located they’d be a whole lot busier. The stand out of the meal was definitely and surprisingly the Beef Broccoli. It was tangy and the sauce was garlicky and kind of sweet and the broccoli and carrots were tender and just a bit crispy. The orange chicken, which was my favorite the last time, tasted plainer this time. Basically big soy nuggets coated in chili peppers and orange sauce. So still good, obviously, but it didn’t have the nuances of the beef broccoli. Hot noodle vegetable soup was huge and stuffed with veggies. Mushrooms, bok choy, broccoli… the only thing missing was snow peas. Flavorful broth and deliciously chewy noodles. It’s definitely enough for one person’s whole meal or two people to share. The pot stickers were clearly pan-fried and crispy on the outside with yummy mushy pot-sticker-type veggies on the inside. We had a plethora of sauces to add and each one worked well. Especially the spicy chili oil. The spring rolls were typical spring rolls. Spring rolls don’t really do it for me, but they were good for what they were. Crispy deep fried sticks of asian veggies dipped in sweet and sour sauce. We drank hot tea and ate our weight in food. It won’t surprise you to hear that we had tons of leftovers. I wish these guys were more central, because sometimes all you want is greasy delicious vegan chinese food(read: at least five times a week) and you don’t want to travel out to the burbs for it.
