Redeemed! I previously wrote about trying to book a large group table and being dismally never answered to. But we managed to book a small table for a nice anniversary date for my husband. We couldn’t have a sitter that night, so we took our 5 year old(well behaved) daughter with us. Joy! This fancy place had an extensive kid’s menu! Portions were good, my child was pleased and the food tasted amazing — both for the adults and my daughter’s. I loved the décor and the service was superb. They even comp’ed us a free dessert because it was our wedding anniversary. I am definitely coming here again for a special occasion meal. In the future, when I book my company’s Christmas party I’m going to fight tooth and nail to get a reservation because I was so impressed this time.

5 stars for ambiance and 4 stars for the meal, so I’m rounding up. We came here during March’s Portland Monthly Dining for the $ 293-course meal. Let me start by saying this restaurant is gorgeous old-style Hollywood in a gorgeous old-style Hollywood hotel. Think linen tablecloths and chandeliers. Think suit jackets and ties and cocktail dresses and heels. I’ve been to the Hotel deLuxe for happy hour at their bar, the Driftwood Room but never had dinner at Gracie’s. Finding the $ 29 deal meant having no excuse not to get dressed up and go, and so we called up our fanciest friends, put on our finest Audrey Hepburn-like attire and made a reservation. and Gracie’s did not disappoint! Below is the 2-die-4 menu we got to choose from. We all tried to order something different so we could sample each others meals and we all agreed that everything was wonderful. This is not an event to miss. 11 months from now we will be doing this again and I recommend everyone does. Now, we just have to come back in the summer for their rooftop movie nights. First course(choose one): Beet root tartare with horseradish green apple vinaigrette, ricotta, pickled mustard seeds, crisp capers and warm naan –OR– Gem salad with black garlic and olive dressing, lemon brioche croutons, marinated white anchovy and shaved Parmesan –OR– Warm escarole salad with smoked pork belly, grilled onions, apple, Roquefort cheese, currant dressing and spiced walnuts Second course(choose one): Crab fondue with fontina and gruyère cheeses, kirsch and country bread –OR– Shrimp and cheddar grits, serrano ham, jalapeño sour cream and shrimp buerre blanc –OR– Crisp salt cod cakes with vadouvan curry aioli Third course(choose one): Miso-glazed sablefish with shabu broth, couscous, soy-glazed shiitake, edamame and bok choy –OR– Bacon-wrapped chicken with asparagus, andouille sausage and shrimp étouffée –OR– Seared scallops with saffron cream, melted leeks and potato brandade

Great for Portland Dining Month! Well worth $ 29 for 3 courses of delicious & filling food. FIRSTCOURSE We both got the Warm Escarole Salad — pretty big portion imo, with chunks of pork belly & walnuts. I substituted the bleu cheese for parmesan & it was delicious. SECONDCOURSE We also both got the Shrimp & Grits — the fanciest shrimp & grits I’ve ever had! The grits were cheesy & tasty, and the serrano ham was a nice touch to the dish. THIRDCOURSE — Bacon Wrapped Chicken — the chicken was juicy, the bacon was delightfully soft & chewy, & omg… The shrimp étouffée… So good! This was a surprisingly filling dish. — Seared Scallops — 2 juicy scallops served with melted leeks & baby potatoes. Sounds tasty huh? It was. To top off the meal, we also got the Crème Brûlée and Bread pudding. Both really delicious. I would recommend a cup of coffee to pair with the bread pudding. All in all, a great experience!

beautiful palace! I love coming here. As much as I love the eclectic vibe of Portland, Gracie’s is where I go for a throw back to the classics. It’s gorgeous architecture, attentive service, and classic cuisine is exactly what it should be for the style that it is. I love the tongue and cheek cocktails and fauxtails, and highly recommend the miso sable fish. Don’t forget to end the night with the bread pudding. It has a fun special crunch.

Was on my passport dining list so we went here. The driftwood room had a tiny selection, food served in tiny portions, and they wouldn’t honor our dining cards even though they said it was on the list. Disappointed.

Afternoon Tea Downside: They lost a star because it took me 5 weeks, 4 emails, 2 in-person chats and 2 send backs to the kitchen before the got our vegetarian order right Service: Professional and polite gentleman served us. He was 5+ stars — Jordan. Tea: By Smith. Ordered Bungalow and Bai Hao Oolong. Bungalow was a bit thin n flat, but nice punch of orange. I did end up drinking it English style with cream n sugar. The Bai Hao was nice, we drank it straight. Various Snacky Items: We ordered as vegetarians. Really delicious — our sandwiches were tomato, cucumber, onion and avocado — all with a yummy garlic sauce. The scones n jam were delicious. The top bakery treats were fantastic — beautiful textures n balanced comfortable flavors.

I was there for the Portland Dining month: Had a three-course meal. Shrimp & Grits: Pretty good. Miso Glazed Sablefish: was just awesome. Seared Scallops: was good, but I expected to be even better(and if you were to order this, you would still be hungry after having this). Gem Salad: Good. Very good service.

This review is based on our first experience here, and to be fair, we ordered primarily from the Portland Dining Month’s menu. The two best dishes we enjoyed were not on that menu… they were from the dessert selection. The crispy bread pudding with caramel sauce and the chocolate stout flourless cake were excellent… decadent and worth every calorie and fat-laden bite, especially when paired with Ruby Jewel’s vanilla bean ice cream. The first courses we ordered: the gem salad, the warm escarole salad and the beet tartare. The winner was, by far, the warm escarole with pork belly. The gem salad had a gritty bite… not washed well?! The beet salad was good but nothing to write home about. The second courses: crab fondue, shrimp and grits and the tomato plate. One shrimp placed artistically upon a small scoop of cheesy grits… spectacular and would have liked to have seen a bit more on the plate. The crispy prosciutto chip accompanying it made for a perfect bite. The crab fondue was the best dish of the night. Trust me… order it. The tomato plate was disappointing — four wedges of underripe tomato with a sprinkling of arugula and a bland dressing. Third courses: When do two scallops qualify as an entrée? If you order this dish, expect an appetizer portion alongside a few shavings of leek and three slices(thin slices!) of fingerling potato. The chicken wrapped in bacon is more filling and substantial, but even that dish was reminiscent of an appetizer or second course.

I made reservations online at and with my instructions I asked for a table with the most romantic atmosphere and the hostess didn’t seem to pay attention to that detail. However we did get seated immediately and were able to choose from our limited menu quickly. Since we went in March, this particular restaurant is participating in PDX dining month(three course dinner for $ 30). There were 3 options for every entrée and the wine I had was very good. Our server was on top of our orders and was very punctual whenever we needed something. We were celebrating our 5th anniversary. :) Our desserts were delicious! I highly recommend the bread pudding! The atmosphere is absolutely old Hollywood glamour. I’m so happy I decided on this place! :)

I’m staying at the hotel that this restaurant is located in(and often do). I usually order from them at least one of the nights I stay here. Their menu is limited and if you’re vegan you have to ask for them to make something special. Usually they get it right. But tonight not so much. I got plain pasta but my brocolini was drowning in cheese, even after mentioning I was vegan and specifically said no dairy. Since that’s all I ordered I’m left very disappointed. I won’t order here again as I don’t want to take a chance of getting something that would make me ill. So note to vegans: venture outside the hotel for dinner if staying here or just order fruit.

Gracie’s is one of the most nicest restaurants I’ve seen in Portland downtown. Their dinning area is beautiful and their food is tasty. The price is quite reasonable considering how nice the place is. It’s a great place to go and grab dinner with your girls.

I have always adored the Driftwood, but I was pleasantly surprised by dining at Gracie’s. Its inside the Hotel Deluxe which is old charm Hollywood, with old phones, marble tables and that nostalgic feel back to days of Grace Kelly — complete with a full black and white screen. We came here for New Year’s, the one drawback was we asked to change our reservation from 6 to 8. Not only was the restaurant not full, but we could have fit them at our nice round table. That being said, so glad the regular menu was up! Always a hit are the forest mushrooms, their specialty served sizzling hot in a skillet with bread. Pleasantly surprised by the ricotta cheesecake savory appetizer. We enjoyed both the chimichurri steak with garlic mash and lobster pot pies. Nice espresso shot to head for the rest of the evening as well. Definitely recommend for a special evening.

Great old fashioned ambiance. Good pianist with good music. Unfortunately after our orders were placed, we were informed that the kitchen was out the steak item. This was with a 7:15 reservation. The reason given was lot of holiday parties. Sorry, management knew those parties were coming.

This place is a go to for a good brunch with friends and family. They accommodate larger party’s no problem since they have a big dinning area. I always leave satisfying with there food & service.

What a wonderful brunch! Went to Gracie’s yesterday morning and fell in love with the place. The vintage style is really well done, the service is attentive and the food delicious. I ordered the smoked salmon hash, which was superb. I’ll definitely be recommending this place!

Breakfast Favorite when we are in Portland. This has a old hollywood fee and elegant food. Killer french toast, and the lovely throwback dishes you will love!

My family and I went here for breakfast on the morning of my graduation. The décor feels very fancy & upscale with a modern twist. The selection was pretty good, there seemed to be something to please everyone’s palate. I ordered the Elvis pancakes. I typically love this combination but was disappointed with the dryness of both the pancakes and the peanut butter. I also wasn’t impressed with the portion sizes, they seemed small for the price we paid. I loved the overall feel of Gracie’s, I just wish the food was up to par. I might give Gracie’s another chance, but I believe that Portland has an amazing brunch scene & I’d be more inclined to go elsewhere.

I’ve had happy hour here several times, and I’ve always walked away just meh. Never enough to write a review either way, mostly because I thought it was just me not liking the drinks they offer. I admit, I’m a bit of the opposite of a drink snob. I like sweet, simple drinks without bitters or anything like that. All their drinks have some kind of fancy something going on and it was just not worth the price. The happy hour food is a good selection, if just slightly above average pricing and average taste. However, what prompted me to write this review is brunch. My friend had been dying to go here for the bread pudding french toast so we decided to make a meal of it and six of us went to savor what should have been an amazing meal for what the prices were. I walked in and the first thing I noticed is the smell. Just like where my grandma used to live. Then I looked around and was thrown back in time for a second because the people looked like where my grandma used to live. We were by decades the youngest group in the restaurant. I was just hoping the food didn’t taste like where grandma used to live. I could keep going with the retirement community theme, but I’ll spare you. My friends who had the french toast bread pudding stuff really enjoyed their meal. The rest of us were not as impressed. Mostly, I was pissed at the size of my portion. Look, half the time I can’t even finish my eggs benedict, let alone the potatoes. For 18 freaking dollars, you think it wouldn’t be a problem. Nope. The portion was tiny and I was able to eat it and the potatoes and was hungry a few hours later. Normally brunch fills me up for over half a day. The hollandaise(here I go again) was like what they used to serve at my grandma’s place. Bland but palatable. Tasted like melted butter, which I do love butter, but still. I want some flavor to the hollandaise. The eggs were poached to perfection, so that made me happy, but the crab and bay shrimp cake underneath was paltry. Plus, it was just so tiny! My grandma would have loved this place. Me, not so much.

I went with a few friends to try their Portland Dining Month menu. First off it’s now become one of my favorites the room is huge and definitely more of a vintage fancy feeling like a classic Hollywood feel. Crowd isn’t loud makes for an ambient dining experience. Our servers were very attentive and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. All the dishes came out beautifully and you can tell it involved a lot of time and effort to create such delicious master pieces. On to the food we all ordered different items so we can try a lot of the dishes they offered: Salads — we got 4 of the 5 salads and all of them used freshest veggies available and the dressings that complement each one is very refreshing. My favorite is the beet salad, thick slices of red and golden beets with a light ginger vinaigrette. Salads were pretty good sized would make a good lunch if paired with soup. Gorgonzola Cheesecake — it was our favorite 2nd course for the table. It came with a slice of seasoned gorgonzola with a cornmeal(i think) crust. The cheese came with an entire bulb of umami packed roasted garlic and delicious balsamic glazed veggies. Eating the cheese, garlic and veggies on the bread is like a flavorful explosion in your mouth. Very savory and delicious that leaves you wanting more. Sizzling Forest Mushrooms: Very tasty assortment of woody wild mushrooms. They were cooked perfectly nutty and savory great on toast with red wine. . Spicy Broccolini: Very tasty tender perfectly cooked broccolini with a hint of spicy kick very tasty and it’s also offered on Driftwood Room’s happy hour menu. Pancetta Wrapped Scallops: Very tasty sea scallops cooked just right with crispy pancetta wrapped around. They salty scallops work well with the mild leek and bean purée. All the flavors work well together. Overall I would definitely come here again for the ambiance, stellar food and wonderful service.

Gracie’s, part of Hotel Deluxe, is a truly sumptuous experience: retro hollywood-esque charm, beautiful and elegant atmosphere, with photos of Hollywood stars in huge murals as you walk in. It’s such a special experience. However, it’s in Portland, and because of that, everyone sports casual attire, which I love. The service is generally attentive. The food is great! We’ve been several times now, including for Christmas Eve, Valentine’s Day, and our Anniversary. Their menu is incredible! They had a special one for Christmas Eve. I had the crab and shrimp-stuffed salmon, which was perfectly cooked — so tender and flavorful, served with arugula salad. It was divine. My partner had their prime rib special, which was also cooked to perfection, and my parents loved their steak. I am not a fan, however, of their rendition of a shrimp cocktail. They grill the shrimp and it’s often dry. I prefer something fresh for a shrimp cocktail, especially in a classic-style restaurant. They have a nice-sized cocktail and wine menu, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, such as Steven Smith tea and excellent decaf(when your meal is done). Not much on the menu for vegans, but definitely one item for vegetarians. While their signature dessert, a ginger cake was rather dry, we were impressed by the dessert our server recommended, an espresso cheesecake. Wow! Was that good! They have a good-sized dessert menu. As mentioned, their atmosphere is classy, immaculate, and elegant. It’s the perfect place to go when you want to cherish the evening, feel special, and attended to. :) Prices on their regular menu are moderate, and service, as mentioned, is generally attentive, efficient, and friendly. Tip: Valet parking is FREE when you eat at Gracie’s. Bring your ticket and get it validated by the restaurant.
