Back in January I developed a stye(Which is an infection of the sebaceous glands at the base of the eyelash on my upper right eyelid). I immediately had the stye looked at by my optometrist. I was instructed to use a warm compress 3x’s per day. At first it looked like things were getting better but then progress halted. I named my Stye Waldo and kept my fingers crossed that he would eventually rupture. That day never came so I returned to my optometrist and was informed Waldo had matured into a Chalazion(aka a Cyst which is a blocked Meibomian gland). Waldo felt and looked like I had a BB lodged in my eyelid. Aside from being unsightly he made wearing contacts unbearable. Armed with Google I set out to find an ophthalmologist in Portland, Oregon that I could trust to safely remove Waldo from my eyelid. I called all the big names but never got a warm and fuzzy feeling about how I would be treated. Luckily I stumbled onto which is the website for the Oregon Academy Of Ophthalmology. I called and explained that I was looking for a practice that had a personal touch. The representative gave me three names one of which was Dr. Chestler. When I called Gateway Eye Clinic(4÷21÷14) Mary Joe immediately put me at ease(She really needs to pursue a side career in stand up comedy). I explained that I was currently uninsured and that I wanted to get a «Ballpark» on how much all this would cost. After our conversation I knew that I would be treated fairly regardless of what Dr. Chestler found during the initial exam. I asked when they had an opening and was cheerfully invited to the office the very next day. I accepted the appointment and was excited to finally be rid of this irritating discomfort. On 4÷22÷14 I arrived at the office and after all the necessary paperwork was completed I was on my way. Dr Chestler examined Waldo and confirmed that he would have no issues performing the excision. Even though it was the end of the day(5pm) I never felt rushed. All of my questions were thoughtfully answered and the procedure was explained in detail. After the excision I was feeling light headed. Everyone gave me plenty of time to regain my bearings and composure. I am writing this on 4÷23÷14 because I could not be happier about choosing Gateway Eye Clinic.(I should also mention that my home in NW Portland is NOWHERE near their office but I plan on using them for all future eye exams, contacts and eye glasses)
