Gary Swank Jewelers

Gary does amazing work, end of story. My husband had my ring made here and I get compliments on it all the time. Naturally, I went in to have his ring made by Gary, and that ring turned out perfectly too. Gary (and his son) were great for someone like me who has no creative bone in my body. I told them what my vision was, and they made it 100 times better.
I stop in every now and again to have a cleaning and inspection, and they are always so helpful and friendly. They really make beautiful jewelry and stand behind their work.

My experience with Gary Swank educated me about a person with NO compassion for a fellow human being. I was not to find help here, at this establishment. The attitude I encountered in this store — with Gary Swank — on this unfortunate day — was reprehensible.
I had a ring I had put on that morning that was too tight and stuck on my finger, and that my finger was swelling up with every minute that passed,
and more painful; I was desperate to get the ring off my finger. I Googled the closest jeweler to where I was, and Swank Jewelers came up as closest. I hurried over as fast as I could with my finger turning very pink and purple hoping they would cut it off for me.
I hurried in to Swank Jewelers on the verge of tears, I held up my hand and rushed to ask them if they would cut it off. Initially, the guy behind the counter went to run and get the cutter and was ready to cut the ring off.
But, Gary Swank was nearby, and heard everything I said. He told the guy to stop, and not to cut off the ring. Swank said it was due to their liability. What? Really? Furthermore– Swank offered that for $ 75.00, he would no longer have concern about the ‘liabilty issue’ and would then cut it off. So in essence– $ 75.00 on the sly, would have bought away the liability concern risk Swank apprently had. That was questionable in itself.
I was crying and getting upset, I was desperate, and I had no money; I am a student. I offered him the $ 10.00 I had in my pocket. He told me to — GO DOWN THE STREET-​. I could not believe they would not help me with my finger swelling and being in pain, pleading in tears with them to please help me and cut it off. NO
I ran down the street looking for another Jeweler to help me. Thank you to the powers that be! I found a place in ther heart of downtown Portland that cut off the ring. I was not charged a penny and there was no concern about,“liability”.
This encounter Swank shows the true nature of the man. And it is not nice. I recommend to avoid this place at all costs. These words come to mind when thinking about the attitude I encountered that day from Gary Swank, pleading for help — - Condescending, uncompassionate, cold.

My wife and I tortured Gary with our design indecision for over a year. He never wavered from being friendly, professional and helpful as we fumbled around. Eventually we got a grip and he made a beautiful set of rings for less than pre-​made at other places. Additionally, he has resized and cleaned the rings free of charge.
Couldn’t ask for better
