Friendly Smiles Dental Group

I rarely need serious dental work (thank you, grandma, for your genetics!), so what matters to me is that the admins have it together and the hygienist is solid. And Friendly gets A+ on both. I’ve been going here for like a year and a half and it’s ultra consistent.
They’re super organized. You get like 5 reminders for your appointment… texts, emails, whatever you want. They call you over a month in advance when it’s time to book your next one. If your appointment is at noon, they take you back exactly at noon. When it’s time to see the dentist (Dr. Lee, also A+) after the cleaning he’s there, like magic.
I always get the same hygienist every time and she’s super friendly and sweet (although I’m a jerk and can never remember her name). My teeth are now like little polished gemstones and even though I’m a little baby and wince at everything, she was as gentle as possible so it was worth it.
Everyone there from the admin to hygienists to dentists are just reaaaaalllly positive and upbeat and nice. And they never try to upsell me on whitening or any unnecessary dental work like every. other. dentist. Seriously, every one I’ve ever had, even my childhood dentist wanted my money, and I was an unemployed 9 year old. So these guys are saints in my book, and I think you should go here if you like happiness and organization.

Fantastic place! I came here because of the great rating and this place really deserves 5 stars :) Michelle at reception is wonderful, the dental assistant is bubbly and oh so friendly, and of course Dr. Lee is easy-​going, friendly and does great work.
As a recent US resident, I needed a little help with understanding health insurance which Michelle patiently talked me through. It’s refreshing to receive help rather than having someone lazily describe how insurance works and me still be none the wiser. I’m very happy with this place and wouldn’t considering switching to anywhere else!

I miss Dr. Lee and the Friendly Smiles team so much now that going on OHP has forced me to another dental group. I just went for my first visit at the new place and my poor raw gums want to go back to Dr. Lee! He’s so gentle with your mouth, he’s the best dentist I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to graduate school and get a real dental plan so I can come back to him! They’re also super nice people, and they really know their stuff. Michelle at reception is fantastic, she is like the insurance guru.
I miss you guys!

Dr. Lee and all of his staff at Friendly Smiles are fantastic!
It was very easy to become a new patient, get answers about insurance questions, and make appointments. It was only a short wait in the lobby before my appointment, too.
The receptionist was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable about billing. The hygienist who saw me was friendly and communicated very well about the cleaning procedure. Dr. Lee himself was also very friendly and held nice, genuine conversation with me.
I really felt I developed a good patient-​provider relationship, and received a great cleaning! I have never had a bad dentist in the past, but I guess I just didn’t feel any relationship with the staff in other dental offices. Dental care is a part of health care, so it’s important to feel you can trust your provider.
I am so glad to have found a great dentist on the first try in my new city of Portland! I definitely recommend Friendly Smiles if you are looking for a new dentist. I discovered Dr. Lee on Unilocal,in fact!

I am skeptical about dentists, but they’re a necessary evil.
I scheduled a cleaning and exam with Friendly Smiles on a weekday. Right from the moment I stepped into the Friendly Smiles office, my doubts were disarmed and I knew this wouldn’t be the end. The environment was pleasant, the woman at the front desk was extremely bubbly, and I didn’t have to wait long until I was called back for my appointment.
The hygienist was the best I have ever dealt with: careful, calm, and considerate. She warned me before every single moment that would have an ounce of discomfort. She made conversation with me, which distracted me from the overall dental experience.
I only met briefly with Dr Lee because I just had a cleaning done, but he was very nice, professional, and informative.
I will continue coming back to this office as long as I live in Portland.
Update:
I shamefully chipped my tooth while trying to drink from a glass water bottle… and I came in to this office really anxious. They fixed it for free! This is officially my favorite dentist.

When I finally got insurance for the first time I was in need of a dentist! Thanks to Unilocal I found this place with Dr. Lee and his staff.
They are so nice and helpful. The receptionist is great as well and remembers who you are and is just super friendly.
If you need a new dentist then definitely give Friendly Smiles a chance.

Dr Lee and staff are competent, gentle, caring and obsessive with reminder calls, texts, and emails. I look forward to visiting.
I’ve also brought my kids (ages 3 and 1) — they hung out in the waiting area in their stroller and watched cartoons while I had my cleaning. Super kid friendly.

I’m glad I went here! The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. I was very impressed with the receptionist. She knew more about my dental insurance than I did! The lobby is very cute and cozy. I also appreciated that there weren’t pictures of teeth all over the walls, but rather calming scenic art pieces. I’m looking forward to becoming a regular member there! Thank you for the great service!

What I liked about my recent visit:
I opened my mouth, pointed to the problem, and Dr Lee said «Oh, no problem — that’s going to be easy to fix!»
What I didn’t need? His assistant telling her personal dental horror stories while he worked on me…
That said, both did great work for me, it was easy to get an appointment. I absolutely recommend the practice!

Dr. Lee is great! As is everybody at Friendly Dental. I cannot recommend them highly enough! They provide friendly, guilt-​free, superior-​quality dental care.
I have problem teeth and had not been to the dentist in about 6 years (yikes, I know, but I had a horrible experience with my last dentist – in SF, not Portland – and was in no rush to go back to a dentist). My mouth was full of trouble, but Dr. Lee clearly explained what my options were and gave me a detailed treatment plan that broke down the work into manageable chunks by priority. Ten fillings and one extraction later I am happy to report that my mouth is in tip top shape again! All of the work was smooth and painless. Dr. Lee and his staff clearly care about doing quality work, going above and beyond to leave my mouth a way better place than they found it, and about my comfort. I feel so lucky to have found Dr. Lee!
All of the hygienists at Friendly Dental are great as well. Super friendly and great at their job! Definitely the best teeth cleaning I have ever had. And Michelle at the front desk is amazing, always upbeat and keeps everything running smoothly even when the place is clearly blowing up with phone calls and patients. She has also made the insurance/​billing process completely painless. This is by leagues the best dental practice I have ever been to.

Went to Dr. Lee for a whole lot of dental work, and he did a great job each time! The only discomfort I experienced was jaw pain that lasted several days after my wisdom tooth extraction, but that was because he had no choice but to saw off part of the bone to get the tooth out… something that happens the longer you wait to have your wisdom teeth removed (I’m 33). Other than that, I felt very little discomfort.
Also, another mention I wanted to make was about Michelle, their front office person. She does an amazing job communicating with you in regards to procedures, cost, insurance etc. Really nice person!

This place is exactly how every dentist should be. Here’s a list of attributes that this dentist has that all dentist should also have:
–Had a 4 o clock appt, Started at 4 o clock.
–Wasn’t made to feel bad about not flossing enough (They of course told me the benefits of flossing and said I need to floss more, but I didn’t feel lectured)
–Had newer technology — no fancy gizmos, but I could tell that they were using new updated equipment such as x-​ray equipment, digital screens and a sonic blaster thingy. Made the whole process go by quickly
–Everyone was friendly in general.
This place has made me a believer in dentists once again.

Phew, am I ever glad I found this dental group. Finding an honest, friendly and efficient dentist office is quite an exciting thing so I feel compelled to do Portland residents a favor and tell them about Dr. Lee and his office.
Dr. Lee is friendly and a GREAT communicator and teacher of oral health. He takes the time to explain the most effective methods of oral care. His hygienists are kind, fun and professional. The office is centrally located near 25^th and SE Hawthorne. Michelle at the front desk is extremely warm as well has a superstar at navigating insurance companies. (Something that is not my forte)
It is so important to find the right dentist office so if you are looking, do yourself a favor and make an appointment here… just leave room for me!

I hate going to dentist. I don’t like the drilling noise in my ears. I don’t like the ouchy in my mouth. I especially don’t like paying the expensive bills even after insurance. Now, this part is going to sound cheesy like those local tv commercials, but I honestly don’t mind it at all going to dentist since I found Dr Brandon Lee.
First, making appointment is easy. Michelle is the front desk superstar. Not only that, if you told her the detail of your insurance, she will be in touch with your insurance companies to get an estimate for your treatments. There will be waiting period for this because insurance companies usually take their sweet time. After that, she will tell you how much out of pocket cost you have to pay on the day of your treatment.
I think that’s the number one reason why I like this dentist because I like to know how much I will need to pay out of pocket. No hidden or high charges = a good thing for Olivia T.
Dr Lee is pretty damn cool for a dentist. He’s funny, friendly, knows what he’s doing, and he always wants you to be comfortable. The rest of his staff are the same. I don’t think there’s one person there that I don’t like.
I was debating to write this review or not for a long time just because I don’t want you guys to steal my appointment spot. So, I warn you, don’t take my spot k.

Dr. Lee knows his way around teeth as well as Michelle knows her way around insurance companies. Together with their hygenist Singh (spelling?), this makes them an efficient team of professionals who always take care of me with *cheesy alert* Friendly Smiles. Seriously though, they’re sincere people who have taken the time to get to know me and set up a treatment plan to maximize budget and timelines. Also, they just recently renovated their office with very comfortable new chairs and equipment.

When I called my dentist to schedule my upcoming cleaning, I was surprised to find that my insurance had changed and I needed to find a new dentist. A friend recommended Dr. Lee to me and I am so happy she did.
Dr. Lee is very friendly, relaxed, and professional, tells you exactly what is going on as he finds things, and is very thorough about different plans and approaches to fix things.
His staff is small, and that makes it even more welcoming whenever I walk in. The two ladies who work for him are very friendly, very good at what they do, and always make me feel completely relaxed and at ease.
Dr. Lee and his staff have also been very helpful in assisting me in the search a few different specialist (since I had to find new ones when my insurance changed). They know many different specialists in the area, from orthodontists to periodontists.
I have recommended Dr. Lee and Friendly Smiles to many of my friends, and none of them have ever regretted it.
