Fremont Veterinary Clinic

The few negative reviews seemed harsh, but when your pet is your baby you want the best and you want treatment fast. No doctor can perform miracles and sometimes circumstances prevent a diagnoses or cure.
I moved to the area with my SuzyQ. She is a Basenji. My daughter and her friend have always taken their dogs to Fremont Vet Clinic and I decided to take my dog there also.
Fremont Vet was always so caring and gave excellent treatment for all the problems their three dogs had. This ranged from serious stomach problems to pinkeye and allergies.
SuzyQ had been attacked by another dog in the summer of 2015. She suffered emotional problems. I know, sounds crazy but being mostly Basenji it is not surprising. Within a few weeks she stopped eating and drinking. I literally cried thinking I would lose her. The doctors were so good to me and The Q. She lost weight and no matter what I tried she continued to go down hill.
The first test showed a «raging bladder infection». She was given medication for the infection, but it didn’t take effect right away. I took her for imaging at another facility and it showed possible stones.
So the treatment was to continue the strong dose of antibiotic, anti nausea and sedatives. The doctors and staff were amazing with my SuzyQ. The doctors hydrated her a few times and let me be with her during the treatment. That saved her life.
When that antibiotic kicked in there was such a difference. Her appetite returned. I started her on a special diet and watered her food. She had a tendency to not drink much water and I wanted to keep her well hydrated.
I believe due to not drinking water she developed the bladder infection. I’m not sure. Which came first, the infection or the not drinking water. I do know she was affected by the bite. By the way, animal control and the managers of the complex did nothing even though the animal had a history of being uncontrollable.
She recovered and is back to normal. She celebrated the 9^th birthday in March. I moved to Washington and Fremont Vet will always be my dogs’ doctors.

If I could rate this clinic lower than a 1 star I would. To tell you the truth I think they should be reprimanded by the Veterinary Medical Examining Board for saying they have the ability to offer lifesaving intervention for sick animals. I apologize for the length of this review, but I feel it is imperative for people looking for quality pet care to understand this clinics positive aspects and downfalls that can lead to the death of your beloved animal.
For your everyday animal needs i.e. annual checkups, vaccinations, etc. this clinic is great. Their front desk staff are very helpful and make it easy to get appointments. They even allow you to bring in more than one animal at a time. It is a little more expensive than your average vet, but for the area it is comparable.
Now the death causing downfalls. If you have a sick animal that is vomiting, has diarrhea or any other symptoms that may be an indication of something more serious STAY AS FAR AWAY AS YOU CAN. I apologize for the all caps, but if I was talking to you this is where I would stress the importance of not bringing your animals here for anything other than routine animal care. Why? Their lack of urgency and inability to diagnose extremely ill animals. If you read through the reviews I am not the only person that warns this. A majority of their reviews are for routine needs, but the ones for emergencies are disconcerting.
Our Story: Our 1.5 year old cat has been going to this clinic since we got her at 2 months old. We noticed she had been vomiting and started acting lethargic. She was also not really interested in food or water. We were worried she had eaten a string or something because of her history, so we brought her in as soon as we noticed her symptoms. Dr. Ross was her vet on Saturday and after spending just a few minutes with her informed us that he could not make a definitive recommendation. While talking he had no sense of urgency and did not seem to think it was anything critical. He gave us three courses of action 1) give her fluids, anti-​nausea meds, take a stool sample and take her home, 2) Follow up on Monday for an x-​ray, 3) do blood work. Dr. Ross was unable to identify what course was the best, so left the decision up to us without ANY guidance. Since step 1 was the first course of action Dr. Ross came up with we decided to stick with that and go from there. They warned us that she might be sleepy because of the meds she was given, but told us to watch her and bring her in for any changes. Then they set us up with an appointment on Monday and sent us on our way. We watched her closely and other than being overly tired her symptoms didn’t get any worse. We figured since Dr. Ross did not seem concerned at all and he sent her home that whatever she had was not life-​threatening. Unfortunately, she did not last until Monday on Sunday night she started to seizure and we took her into Dove Lewis animal emergency hospital. They immediately took her back and said that she was extremely sick. Without any thought they said that she needed blood work, an x-​ray and fluids. They seemed surprised that her vet did a stool sample instead of recommending blood work and other test based on her symptoms. Overall they just seemed surprised by the lack of response from her vet based on how sick she was. Although, we did not know our cat was extremely sick when we took her to see Dr. Ross on Saturday as a trained veterinarian he should have had the knowledge to either take action or send us to an animal hospital that has better trained staff to handle sick animals. Our cat is now in the ICU and is fighting possible kidney failure. Had Dr. Ross taken action recommended blood work and to do an x-​ray on Saturday the severity of her illness could have been caught earlier. Instead she had to suffer for almost 30 additional hours. On their web-​site they state they are the place to bring your pet for lifesaving measures in their state of the art medical center. Reality is it doesn’t matter how much state of the art equipment you have if you do not have doctors that are trained to identify extremely ill animals and order appropriate testing. If this was a human there would be a malpractice lawsuit. Please if you have a sick animal find a veterinarian equipped to save their live. I would hate for another animal to go through what ours did because of Fremont Veterinary clinic.

I just took pets here for the first time and had a great experience. They gave me an appointment for my dog and cat, on the same morning.
The vet tech was gentle and helped soothe my nervous pets while she took their vitals. Dr. Cassioli was friendly, thorough, and respectful of my concerns. I was there for yearly shots, but I mentioned that my dog was licking his legs a lot. She pointed out that he probably has allergies, since the licking started when we moved to this area, and that I should try giving him regular baths before trying any meds.
I liked her nonjudgmental attitute; she didn’t give me a guilt trip about letting my cat be indoor/​outdoor like my former vet. She also showed me my cat’s dental problems, and recommended that I get a cleaning this year or next, but didn’t push. She told me about several vaccine options and let me choose.
I appreciated the level of care that my dog and cat received here, and that the staff didn’t pressure me into buying lots of meds, supplements, or procedures.

I have an elderly cocker spaniel who is starting to develop challenging medical conditions. Dr. White has gone above and beyond to help me understand the issues and then to wade through them in a manner that makes the most sense. In my experience, they are very conscientious about medical costs and therefore thoughtful in what interventions they recommend. This can’t be easy since the patient’s can’t tell you what is wrong verbally and most don’t have insurance.

For over 25 years we have counted on the good people at Fremont Veterinary Clinic to take care of all our cats and dogs, and they have done a stellar job. They’re competent and compassionate, and they have helped us from the first shots to the end days of our beloved creatures. I trust them completely, and we will always be Fremont clients.

Hubby and I love ALL the vets at Fremont with our personal favorite being Dr Connie White who has cared for our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for more than a decade. Over time Dr White has provided quality routine care and quality urgent and emergency care (along with the other vets). She is the vet who calls you at home to check how your recovering dog is doing. Any Cavalier lover knows there can be cardiac issues and Dr White has been magnificent in working with Dr Wood at Cardiology Northwest to ensure coordinated and appropriate medication’s, labs, etc. She has also worked with Dr Kroll a neurologist from VCA Pet Specialist’s, to ensure Cracker Jack has been on the best anti-​seizure medication régime. ALSO it takes a well coordinated Team to provide compassionate and comprehensive care — the Vet Tech’s and the Vet Assistant’s have been very professional and responsive to our and our dog’s needs through the years — last year our older Cav. died unexpectedly at home and we received compassionate understanding as the Fremont team helped us navigate through that difficult time. LASTLY — our Cav’s have always loved going to the Fremont vet — they enjoy (ed) greeting any and all, even when not feeling well — there has always been at minimum a slight tail wag — so the MOST important rating of all — the DOG RATING — a five tail enthusiastic wag!

This was our first time here and luv luv luv. They have separate sides/​doors for cats/​dogs. What a great idea. Took our cat in and from start to finish they were kind, thorough and professional. Answered our guestions and took great care of our cat. Great value didn’t break the bank. Highly recommend.

I’ve been bringing my animals to this place for close to 15 years and am always grateful for their warmth and professionalism.
A vet tech once saved the life of one of my dogs– giving me an incredible respect for these hard working and committed folks.
There are plenty of vets to choose from depending on what style you prefer. I find myself requesting specific vets from time to time if I’m looking for a certain style of bedside manner, but usually I just take whoever is available and I’m never disappointed. Their pricing is fair and their schedule is manageable.
Over the years I’ve lost two dogs to old age and the vets at Fremont helped me make informed decisions, while being gentle and thoughtful. One of them called me at home after hours to help me with that decision.
I’m a customer for life.

Dr. Roberts at Fremont Veterinary took great care of our beloved family dog throughout his life. She was very thoughtful. thorough, and took special care to get to know our dog and his needs. I highly recommend Fremont Veterinary and the friendly and professional staff.

My fiancé showed up with our pit bull mix, George, while he was in the middle of an allergic reaction to a bee sting, during anaphalaxis — he was throwing up, having trouble breathing and breaking out in hives. We had no idea what was going on. They took George and treated him immediately. They calmed us down while he was being treated and reassured us everything would be ok. Furthermore, they did everything they could to keep our costs down. They were nice, professional, polite, caring and completely open & honest. George is home and fine, and I have no doubt it was because of the amazing team here. Thank you so much for taking such good care of all of us!

I have been going to Fremont Vet for about 15 years. I am a total animal lover — even volunteer at the OR Humane Society. So I won’t trust my «furbabies» with just anyone.
When I started there, I had a male vet that was AWESOME! Can’t remember his name but he was very holistic in his approach and I loved that. And he would always start with one procedure first, then move on if necessary. He even recommended an acupuncturist for my dog when he couldn’t promise me a $ 3000 surgery would fix the issue. And the acupuncture did. Great, right? Then he had to move to Phoenix to take care of his ailing parents. I moved to the Westside around that time so went to a different vet that was recommended to me. they weren’t terrible — just not what I was used to. So even though it was a trek to get there, I went back to Fremont and started seeing Dr. Roberts.
She is more than awesome! She is also very holistic and very cost conscious (one thing at a time) but she is just so caring and pleasant with my «Littles». I recently had a real scare with one of them — he aspirated his vomit so contracted pneumonia. She diagnosed it immediately so send my daughter (who was caring for my dogs as I was in Cabo) to an emergency hospital. By the time she got him to that hospital, my baby had pneumonia in both lungs — Fremont didn’t have the equipment or capacity to care for him and he wouldn’t have made it. Dr. Roberts called me several times a day to give me updates, even though he wasn’t in her facility. He has recovered from the pneumonia but now has a disease called «mega-​esophagus» which is a lifelong issue for him She is so kind in that she has allowed me to email her with how he’s doing, she replies right away (even when she’s not working), and she has done a lot of research to help me with it. She just goes beyond what I would ever expect from my vet.
The other vets at the clinic are also great, as well as the front staff and the techs. They all know my furbabies well enough to greet them by name, know their issues (like I have a biter at the vet), and make an effort to make them feel as comfortable as possible.
I would give Fremont 5 stars but I think they are a bit on the spendy side. However, I am still willing to pay for their services as it’s worth it to me.

My son got Norton for his birthday & we brought him here. The staff is so friendly and great that I brought my Henry to get him checked out & up to date.

Okay, forgive me for the long story, but it’s one I feel needs to be told.
For regular check-​ups and prescriptions The Fremont Vet Clinic was great. We had been bringing our Chocolate Lab, Kona, to them for four years. The Vet techs were very good with him and he LOVED Yuko. If he heard her voice he’d get very excited. The vets themselves seemed okay. We’d get a different vet each time we went.
Kona began having problems getting up. He was twelve so this was heartbreaking, but not a huge surprise. They said it was most likely arthritis and gave him a shot and some pills for us to give him. The next day, Kona refused to eat. This was a bad sign. They said to discontinue the medication immediately and to call on Monday if his appetite didn’t return. Turns out the medication they gave him has caused many dog’s kidneys to fail. They didn’t mention this before giving it to him. Not eating can be indicative of kidney failure.
Took him to the clinic on Monday. He was getting worse. Legs were weaker, refused to eat all weekend. Dr. Roberts checked and sure enough, his kidneys were failing. They suggested we leave him there during the day, they’d put him on IV fluids to flush his kidneys. We would take him home at night and return him every morning that week. His condition worsened throughout the week. Every day there was a new theory as to what was wrong. The medication, he ate a poisonous plant, cancer, etc.
Thursday, it all went wrong. Dr. Roberts called me at work Thursday afternoon. She had just run more kidney function tests on Kona and he wasn’t responding to the IV fluids. Toxins were building up in his system. She gave me the name of a Vet who would come to our house and euthanize my boy.
As I’m on my way to Fremont Vet Clinic, Dr. Roberts calls me on my cell and says that she just got some test results back. That there is a virus in his system that is causing his kidneys to shut down. With the right antibiotics, they may be able to reverse all of this. She would run another test that would determine which antibiotic would be most effective. And he would start that treatment on Friday.
When I picked him up, Dr. Roberts told me that she would be off on Friday and that Dr. White would be handling Kona. She told me that she had gone over Kona’s case with Dr. White and that she was fully informed.
The next morning, we were anxious to hear about the test results and if they knew what antibiotic was going to save him. He was very weak by now. He hadn’t eaten in a week and could barely walk. The receptionist told us Dr. White was in surgery and she’d call us later. It seemed like Kona was just being pushed aside and not a priority. We knew this was his last chance. He couldn’t last much longer. So, we refused to leave until we had spoken to Dr. White. They told us it may be hours to wait, she had a very busy schedule that day. We were furious, this was a do or die effort to save our dog. We told them, if they couldn’t give him the attention he needed, we would take him to Dove Lewis. But he needed to be treated today. About thirty minutes later, Dr. White came out to speak to us. She said that she didn’t know anything about Kona or his situation (So Dr. Roberts lied) but that as soon as she could, she would look at his case and call us. I said it didn’t really seem like he was much of a priority and since just yesterday, Dr. Robts. had advised euthanasia, today seemed like a VERY important day.
Dr. White’s response was that Kona was very stable and she was dealing with dogs more critical than he was.
A few hours later, Dr. White called us and said that the toxins in Kona’s blood were causing neurological symptoms and that he should either be euthanized or taken to Dove Lewis for chemo. She thought it was cancer even though it didn’t show in any blood work or x-​rays. When we asked what had happened to the test for the antibiotics, her response was that Dr. Roberts was wrong. The virus in his system were a result of his system shutting down, not the cause.
We called the vet who would come to our house and euthanize Kona and made an appointment for a few hours later.
We went to pick up Kona and it was tragic. What to Dr. White was «showing neurological symptoms» was a horror scene to us. He was extremely agitated, didn’t know who we were, had been tranquilized to keep from inuring himself. He was crying and whimpering to even the slightest touch.
He really should have been put to sleep immediately. But, We were so shocked! When we dropped him off he was weak and miserable but still a tail thumpin’ beautiful dog. Now he was just a scared, confused bundle of pain. All I could think of was to get him home.
I’m not sure anyone could have saved our boy. But, he didn’t need to die like that. Dr. Roberts was sweet but incompetent. Dr. White was gruff but may have been a better choice.
I’ll never trust Fremont again.
Lastly, Kona, I’m so very sorry. I had one job. Protect you. I failed you. I’m so sorry.

Pets and vets are tough. Fremont is no exception. The vets and techs lack bedside manner and aren’t interested in talking about care. Rather, they just want to observe your pet (and not very hands-​on) and prescribe. When asked questions or even engaged in informed conversations, they seem… incompetent? Uncaring? I don’t know. The clinic owner is top notch, and the front desk folks are the BEST. But my experience with two different vets didn’t meet my high standards for care and knowledge.

In late November 2012 my nine year old Carnie Terrier was attacked by another dog. I rushed her to Fremont Veterinary Clinic, and they immediately took action to save her life. You can read the other reviews, but in short my dog is alive because of this professional, experienced, caring staff. This was such a stressful situation, and I felt like I was truly cared for by everyone that works there.

I really liked my old vet on the west side but since we moved to the east side we had to switch. I have been able to get same day appointments when needed and change appointments when my schedule unexpectedly changed with no hassle.
I am going to agree with a previous poster that I can’t seem to get out of there with less than $ 100 bill. I guess that is the price you pay when having pets.

Fremont Veterinary Clinic is pretty good– they have been really helpful in squeezing me in when my cat or dog has needed urgent care. They are generally friendly, though the one vet I really loved there is gone now. The rest of the doctors or techs are nice enough but not super friendly nor super helpful in giving thorough explanations (particularly frustrating when I get a big bill and aren’t sure why certain tests were run), and the clinic always seems harried.
The one thing that makes me absolutely nuts is their on-​hold «music». Whenever I call in, I“m always placed on pretty long holds… and every single time there’s a recorded man’s voice chattering away about pet stuff… it makes me want to pull my hair out, especially when I’m calling because there’s something wrong with my beloved pets. It just adds to an already stressful situation. I can’t stand being forced to listen to that man’s voice every time… silence would be so much better (at least then I could check emails while I’m waiting to speak to a live person!)
So my overall rating: It’s pretty good, I’ve had better at other clinics, but not so much I’m going to switch right now.

These folks were amazing when I brought in my little boy cat on an emergency visit. Everyone from the front desk to the vet techs and doctor who handled my cat clearly loved getting to work with animals, but they also took care of me! Each person was professional and empathetic at the same time. They were also very up-​front about prices, which was extra calming for me as I was quite worried about funds. Amazing visit, thanks to Dr. Roberts and the whole team; this will be my regular vet in the future!
