Customer service at this shop was horrible. I was not greeted, walked through the shop for 10 minutes before stepping into a fitting room. Came out of the fitting room, grabbed a pair of pants and headed back to the fitting room. Finally, one of two sales girls asked me with a very straight face if I needed a fitting room, asked what my name was and told me she’d assist me. She never came to check if I needed a different size, even after spending another 10 — 15 minutes in there trying pants. Rude. They don’t have my business.

This place is awesome. I’ve loved Free People for years, and I especially love their intimates which they carry a lot of in this store. Sales associates are super bubbly and sweet, selection in my opinion is pretty great — if you’re into the lingerie and accessories you’ll be in heaven. The sale section is totally hiding away in the back, but it’s worth the effort! Their markdowns can be very exceptional.

I was in this store for 10 minutes today and the 2 girls working there would not even attempt to acknowledge me. I come here all the time and spend lots of money. There was only 1 other customer in the store and they would not give me the time of day. I will never visit this place again.

My main recommendation is to just go straight to the sale section in the back. Every other time I score something decent. I like to shop local and Shop Adorn on Fremont usually has a good selection of Free People too.

Obligatory words of self-loathing for loving a clothing line owned by Urban Outfitters: Some of their stuff was probably designed by catty little junior-high bitches, and shame on me for my interest in the Free People brand. But what is a lady with sometimes hippie sensibilities and much love of the word«diaphanous» supposed to do? Also some words of warning for those who think my tastes are simply a set of tics that include swearing a lot and occasional yoga-based revelations about the futility of it all. I also loooooove dresses. Dresses that make me feel bee-yoooo-teee-full are the greatest after wine and orgasms. And such dresses are Free People’s raison d’etre. That’s why you go to the store. That’s why you fork over the hundred-some dollars for the really nice stuff. That’s why you excessively email your sisters and mother links from their website despite how you’re sure they’re thinking«Holy Jebus, just go in the store and try on the clothes already, crazypants.» So it’s a little disheartening that the Free People store on 23rd has such a small selection. Not too surprising, since the store is the size of the studio apartment I shared with my fiancée in San Francisco. But for a line with as many choices as you can see on their website, the stock of the local store could be a lot more inspiring. I am sure the employees at the Free People on 23rd can probably order any of the pieces you see online that they don’t have in stock, but then it defeats the purpose of going to the store to see yourself in the clothes, doesn’t it? That said, bee-yoooo-teee-full is such an awesome reaction to anything. Work it out, Free People on 23rd.

Let’s just get this out of the way: I love Free People. I hate the parent company’s politics, but I love the line’s style sensibility. Cue moral dilemma. Usually not terribly problematic considering I can’t afford anything at full price anyway, but occasionally I do fall victim to FP’s charming boho aesthetic. Compared to their website, or even the Seattle store, the Portland location is quite small and doesn’t have the greatest selection. However, once I managed to score a 100% cashmere sweater dress for $ 30, marked down from $ 230. So there are occasional incredible sale finds to be had. The salespeople are always friendly and courteous, willing to split payments or locate an item in another size/color and ship it directly to you for free. Always worth a visit and a great addition to 23rd.

even though the corporation of Free People is frustrating with the lack of prices and sizes, this store was amazing with the customer service. I called them and spoke with and Emily* asking for an inventory check of a dress online. Long story short, they took my number down, called around for me, and got CA to ship me the only large they had left next day delivery* free of charge so i could hurry up and get it altered!

There is NOSALESTAX in Oregon. Repeat, NOSALESTAX. For that reason, and that there’s no Free People in San Francisco(haha), I took full advantage! Scored a bunch of funky stone jewelry, and a darling skirt(from the sales rack!). Cute boutique, but like Anthropologie(its sister store) the prices and styles run the gamut.
