Large space(which is refreshing) and terrific coffee, which is roasted on the premises. The owners are wonderful and it’s open 24 hours. Love this place!

Probably my favorite café at this point. And it’s 24 hours a day. Single sourced beans are on offer.

24 hours, great coffee, good nosh, art everywhere and they’ll let you use an art easel to paint if you wish, good vibe all around… I wish there were more comfortable seating options, but that is nitpicking.

A weak hot chocolate, bitter mocha, and mis-ground beans made my first experience here also my last.

I ordered a short breve cappuccino. There were two problems with my order. The first problem was the foam quality. The foam was coarse, stiff, and not pleasant to drink. This is somewhat excusable as some shops don’t make traditional cappuccinos, and half and half is a challenge to steam. The second problem, and the one that is inexcusable, is the up-charge for breve drinks. Most places are $ 0.50 or $ 0.75. I’ve even seen $ 1.00, which is a little irksome. These folks? They charge $ 2.00 extra for a breve drink! Unbelievable and unacceptable. Even if these guys were a first-tier shop, that would be hard to swallow. I’ll add one star back for the pastry selection and proximity to PCC’s southeast campus, but I can’t recommend this shop for quality-sensitive or price-conscious coffee drinkers.

To understand why I was here at about 3 o’clock in the morning is to be a person who understands what it is like to work graveyard shifts. I have an unusual schedule and on my days off when I am trying to readjust my sleep schedule it is usually messed up so while people are awake and doing things on a Saturday, I tend to be sleeping. In this case I didn’t really wake up until around 1:30 in the morning and I wanted to do something but most people have already turned in at that point. Being that I hadn’t eaten since 9 o’clock the prior morning, I was hungry and I wasn’t about to fire up the kitchen while everyone else in the house was sleeping. A quick Unilocal search found me a good coffee shop to stop into and it was only a half mile from where I live. It also helps that it’s open 24⁄7. It’s a quiet little spot with yellow/orange lights casting a warmth over the place. The large Italian style fountain right inside as you come in is different. There were only four other people in the coffee house plus the guy working when I showed up. The display cases were filled with wonderful looking pastries and bread from St. Honere and the walls were graced with tapestries from an art showing of work by the artist who does quite a bit of work for the band Tool. EPCR has paninis, smoothies, ice cream and coffee on top of the pastries in the cases. Looking over the paninis, I decided to keep it simple. Grilled cheese and tomato with a side salad consisting of organic greens, celery, red pepper, carrots and black olives with a balsamic dressing. I also wanted to try the bruleed hot chocolate. As stated in my tip for this place, I was asked if I wanted it sweet or bitter. I’ve never had an option before, that was different. Being that I tend to prefer dark chocolate, I went with bitter, especially since the marshmallows on top would add more that enough sweetness to the beverage. You can’t mess up a grilled cheese, and it was perfect. The guy running things(a recent transplant from California) said that he enjoyed the night hours and he was very helpful with my options. The salad was good as well and that hot chocolate??? Wow. I had a second one as well with a rather beautiful looking Applesauce Grill Tart with amazing lattice work on top of it. I just sat for a couple of hours reading and enjoying the food. It’s a quiet place to get work done for sure or to read or work on your computer. They have free WIFI. If my drink was any indication of how the rest of the beverage menu is, then you guys need to trek on down to South Tabor and give this place a try because you’ll be blown away. I’m so glad I can walk here. Enjoy.

Garbage coffee, very confusing method to take orders, where the hell do I even order? No counter of any sort and espresso is extremely sour, probably can’t grind it right or doesn’t know how to extract properly.

My business partner and I stopped in to work on taxes(eeeek!) for a few hours and had an excellent experience at East Portland Coffee Roasters. We ordered a couple of drinks, found ample space to spread out(even on a Sunday) with outlets close by and delicious coffee. I ordered a soy mocha that was made beautifully. They give you an option of which roast you’d like to go with, and the chocolate that they use for the mocha is dairy free, just a blend of different cocoa. They also add cocoa nibs to the top of your mocha. Who doesn’t love that?! My business partner got an americano since they don’t have decaf coffee, and she said it was average. All in all, I’d say this place is definitely worth checking out. I’m sure we’ll be back.

This placing rocks! Kale smoothies at 2am?! This is my joint! Great staff and great vibes makes this shop one of my favorites in town. And the fact that they are open 24hrs tops it off. Kudos!

I have spent a lot of time and money at this café, as a full paying customer with no special treatment. So this is my honest review based on my hundreds of hours hanging out at this place working on my laptop. The first thing that strikes you when you enter is the air-quality. The air here smells of something like formaldehyde(a major carcinogen!) and the smell stays in your clothes long after you leave. That worries me, especially for the sake of the staff! As for the coffee, when I first started to go there, there was something wrong with the grinder or espresso machine, because I had to send several coffees back for being extremely sour. I got a pound of the coffee to try making at home, to see if I might be able to figure out the problem, but it was just fine on my own espresso machine. Eventually, they seemed to correct the issue, so the coffee isn’t bad now, but it’s still nothing to write home about. The repair of the coffee equipment took a lot longer than it might have, but the owners are very new to this stuff and not very open to experienced advice. Now, here I get to the controversial aspect of my review. This may or may not matter to you. But on many occasions I have personally witnessed the owner abusing and disrespecting his employees, alienating regular customers who have sworn never to return, seemingly oblivious to his own behavior or how it affects the environment. I found one guy just by chance through Twitter, asking him about the café, and he said he had had«one or two bad experiences» and vowed«never to return.» That’s just at-random! But I have since spoken to a half-dozen more people, and this seems to be a common thing! Each customer represents possibly $ 100 or more in revenue per month, so it’s troubling to see so many alienated customers. And, as the saying goes, «Businesses live or die by word of mouth.» The word-of-mouth around this café is overwhelmingly negative. So, it’s pretty-well established and a defensibly true statement: the ownership at this café treats the staff like dirt, and you can feel it in the air. The current staff is pretty well cowed, but they will tell you in candor that they are pretty miserable. The fact that the owners use their 14-year-old son as staff policeman is just the beginning of the bizarre things these people do without thinking of how it affects morale or undermines any potential for«good vibes.» It’s the owner’s personal playground, and everyone else comes… dead last. I highly recommend that you go to this café to see for yourself just how awful it is. It’s not enough just to have 4 walls, a coffee roaster, and a paper-thin façade of «niceness.» I think you will agree, it requires a bigger heart, soul, and mindfulness to be successful.

I came here to study and it was a pretty decent spot. It wasn’t quiet in the least which is mainly why I give it one less star. Actually pretty stinking loud, I know it’s not a library in the least built still, it was a vivacious roar in there. I still managed to get some studying done. There are very few places that open all night that aren’t grossly over crowded and have decent coffee. Hey this place was one of those! Open all night, good coffee and speciality drinks, food served all night and gf options!!, ample space for sprawling all your books out and very kind staff. I would certainly return! This is definitely on my top list of coffee shops.

I really enjoyed this little coffee shop. It may be only a few months old, but I had no idea until I read other reviews, because it has an established charm. There are hanging plants, artwork on the walls, and a huge fountain that brings a sense of tranquility to the place. I had a build-your-own panini and hot chocolate-they even toast the marshmallows on your hot chocolate with a torch! The latte was also made very well, and everything was fair priced. This would be a good place for studying late at night(open 24⁄7!) or just catching up with friends. The staff were all really helpful as well.

I’m not gonna lie, when I noticed the pot art on the wall right after sitting down I was a little discouraged. But it’s actually pretty, and the barista informed me that the art will change again on December 1st and this was actually a conscious decision with the events of October 1st. Ok then! I’m liking my decaf americano. Smooth and light but not watery or too bitter. I would love to try the Omega next time I’m here as I am an established fan of butter coffee. Also happy to see that they are all about dairy from happy cows because GRASSFEDISGREATERTHANSUGARMILK(aka fat free). In addition to the millions of bonus points for this being a 24 hr establishment with butter coffee and cool wooden tables, there is candy and ice cream. Just the sugar rush you were looking for to continue that all nighter or finish a presentation or whatever all you people are doing here who don’t work graveyard and just have nothing else to do. Nice and calm on a Friday night. Just me, a guy enjoying one of the stuffed avocados and a local Santa character who stopped in for ice cream.

I was attracted to this place because they’re open 24/7, which is not a common thing in Portland. I ordered the Avocado Dream panini and I instantly fell in love! They make everything to order, so there was a little wait time but I didn’t mind. The panini was so flavorful and hit the spot! The ambiance is very relaxing and quiet. They also have desserts from St. Honoré and smoothies that I’ve yet to try.

I’ve taken a sabbatical from Unilocal because of ethical reasons, but I feel compelled to step in here after giving the reviews of this gem of a coffee shop a quick look. That some of you give credence to 1-star reviews from slack-jawed mouth-breathers who have 0 friends and only two other reviews to their name– and one of them is always a review of either a «hipster bar with loud music» or, worse, a Chili’s in an airport– is both aggravating and disgusting. F*ck you and your brethren with a rusty screwdriver. As for East Portland Coffee Roasters, I’ll tell it to you as I see it and you can make an informed decision for yourself. The ambiance of the place is halfway between a European café/desert spot and the kind of second wave coffee shop you’d see college students loafing around on ratty couches for several hours. It’s the best of both of those worlds, without all the undesirable factors of either. I will mention, however, that this place smells WEIRD. I cannot place what it is, but I think it has something to do with cleaning products. Can’t complain too much about cleanliness, I guess, which is absolutely a strong suit of this place. The coffee is pretty good, too. In the handful of times I’ve stopped in, I’ve had a cappuccino, which was rich and frothy, a cup of coffee, which was fine, and later in the evening I had an Americano, which was also serviceable and a good recommendation from the guy behind the counter who said they stopped bothering with drip coffee at 2am or whatever ungodly hour I was in there to catch up on work. Which brings me to the most important conclusion: As far as 24 hour coffee shops are concerned, East Portland is A+. The fountain, albeit weird and out of place, creates a nice soothing ambient noise that drowns out the tapping of other laptoppers. For being within a stone’s throw of the weirdness of 82nd, the crowd here is rarely too distracting for my tastes. I’m not a huge fan of the pasty selection– I prefer muffins and things of that nature– but what I’ve sampled is good for what it is. So in a nutshell… You’ll like this place if you… –need a place to do some Internetting in the wee hours of the morning that’s not(yet) lousy with Reedies and transients –enjoy flaky pastries, ice cream and espresso beverages You won’t like this place if you… –spend most of your time at «cupping labs» where some Mumford & Sons looking bro-dude hand pours your coffee for you while gazing ever so gently in to your soul –prefer non-fat milk for some arcane reason I’ll never understand. Have a thimble of whole milk and a bottle of Dasani. Good luck?

I initially gave them five stars, but then I found out they don’t have fat free milk. What’s worse, they don’t tell you when you order fat free latte. Is that ethical, is it legal?

Yay! I’m a fan! Coffeeshop open 24 hours and ample study space. Two thumbs up! Things I like about EPCR: — It’s open 24 hours! — They give you options on coffee bean. Just ask them for their suggestion! Their cappuccino was tasty, as was their iced almond latte. — They offer both cold brew and iced coffee. — There is a parking lot — There are food options. I believe the baked goods come from Saint Honoré. They have delicious wood fired bagels. They have Tillamook ice cream! — A lot of tables — Cool art work and an out of place water fountain that’s fun to look at Things I’m less of fan: — It’s dark inside. For a study space, it’s too dark in the back — barely any lighting. They have limited seating around the windows. — The smaller tables are gorgeous, but too narrow and small. Plus, no access to outlets. — Music was blasting in the background. Overall, definitely more things I liked about this place than not. I will be back for more study sessions.

Auto 3 stars for anything open past 10 in Portland. Plus 1 for no weird carpet and drop tile ceiling. Plus one more for nice ambience, like a 50s diner and a local coffee shop had a baby. Beans for sale, roasting equipment about, pastries, panini, espresso drinks, non-coffee hot drinks(including bruleed hot chocolate, what?). Strange but soothing decorative fountain noise, and some interesting paintings up for sale. Also cute antique candy dispensers. Go team!

A 24 hour coffee joint, and it doesn’t look like a dive that would be appropriate to a 1940’s detective noir movie? What? What? This place is heaven. It has hanging plants, wood-cut tables, an indoor fountain, exterior bamboo blinds, friendly, caring service, a convenient yet chill location just off of Division a hair back from the chaos of 82nd. They have half a dozen varieties of ice cream, numerous fresh teas, gourmet French deserts and savories – including the best non-American breakfast treat of all time: quiche. I sampled a coffee éclair and a glazed croissant. I’ve no palette for sweets, so it was all the more miraculous that I found them both spectacular. Speaking of sweet, the mocha I had was the first I’ve ever had that did NOT taste like a pool of coffee-flavored syrup. It was amazing. 24 hours, really? It makes me almost grateful that I have insomnia.

Great coffee, good pricing. The pastries and food selection is great… Plus 24 hours! Welcome to the neighborhood! Edit… Ok I have been several times now. I have to admit that their coffee is not my favorite. Well, their coffee drinks with milk substitute. Their non dairy alternative are terrible. The soy is overpowering and it tastes like the Kirkland house brand. Then they have the tendency of giving you about 2.5 inches of bitter soy froth. Bleagth. A good hemp milk would be nice, and a better brand of soy maybe not frothed so much.
