This is a decent no frills kind of place. Nice folks, good food, reasonable prices. My go to place when I don’t want to cook breakfast. Love the biscuits and gravy. And the coffee is good. Been there for lunch, really good hamburgers.

This was the only non-Denny’s, non-IHOP place open in the area at like 6:30am on a Saturday. It was cheap. The service was fast and friendly. The coffee was hot. The portions were large. Really, nothing fancy nor schmancy about Diane’s, but no one would expect it to be. Definitely glad I came here instead of the other places that were available at the time.

Finally tried this place after 7 years living near by. It was perfect — not out of this world, but good. Great price for what you get — really great price. Quality food and nice quaint atmosphere — like grandmas house. I’ll come back and much more often.

I loved diners as an emerging teenager/early adult, and seek them out when I am yearning for comforting diner food. Diane’s is a no-frills, inexpensive option for breakfast when you’re not in the mood to make yourself breakfast or wait in line for brunch. Comfy booths, with a lovely view of Foster street, Diane’s is your standard breakfast diner joint that can make you eggs and pancakes in less than 10 minutes. This place is nothing fancy or special, but a place where one can dine for breakfast without breaking the bank.

Working in the food industry i give lots of leeway for service. I understand being pissed off once in awhile, but for the most part I(and most workers) just suck it up and drink about it later. Though I’ve been to Diane’s about 4 times and have never received good service. The servers are always short, pissed off, grumpy as can be, basically they make you feel guilty for wanting to grub down. It’s unprofessional, exhausting, and immediately apparent. Now onto the food. The food is like when you’re 12 and go to a friends house for lunch and it’s not BAD by any means, but just kind of IS. Nothing special, no spice at all, heavy on the mayo, just blah. Honestly the place is just not worth it. For the price you can go anywhere else in Portland and have a better experience. Ps if you aren’t a small town kinda gal, you’re going to feel outcasted immediately.

Love this little diner. Great comfort food, good service, and good prices. Took one star away for the terrible coffee. In Portland there is just no excuse for serving mediocre coffee when there are so many places to get quality product from. I have tried(and enjoyed) the pancakes, bacon, eggs, biscuits & gravy, hash browns, tuna salad sandwich, and fries. There has never been a wait when we’ve gone, even when they’re super busy and it’s never as crowded as IHOP which is great. The waitresses are sweet and work their tails off to make sure everyone is taken care of. The booths and other seating are a bit janky but that adds to the awesome diner ambiance.

Diane’s is great if you want to sit in a vinyl booth next to windows with seasonal paintings on them and eat a big oily ham and veggie omelette while getting endless coffee refills. Once I went here with my freshman year boyfriend and when we went to pay, another customer had already taken care of our bill. It gets busy on weekends. It’s right next to a really good record shop that sells cheap VHS tapes.

Parked and thought the outside did not have that diner curb side appeal, but that did not take from their cooking. I was immediately greeted by the gentleman cleaning the parking lot, and Diane herself sat us and took our order. We had the sausage patty, eggs, pancakes(with a side of peanut butter and strawberry jam) and the eggs Benedict. Sausage was very juicy, eggs were ok and the pancakes were some of the fluffiest I’ve ever had in my life. Eggs Benedict were also delicious, but the hash browns were a tad bit cold. Nonetheless, still gave Diane’s 5 stars bc how friendly their staff was, and because Diane was very sweet and welcoming! If you’re ever on this side of town, swing by for some good cookin by Diane and her team! Don’t let the throwback lack of décor fool you, this diner has delicious food portions that will fill you up. Keep up the great work!

I love this place. The food is unremarkable. The service is dismal. The waitresses would rather cut your eyes out with a spoon then bring you pancakes. I’m in my 30s, and I’m always the youngest person there. This place is not cool, hip, vegan, green, non dat shit. Love it!

Basic diner food, not the kind you dream about. I’d wanted to go here for years after working off of Foster forever. It didn’t live up to my expectations. The food just kinda tasted meh. It wasn’t bad, I mean, I ate it, but it wasn’t like devourable, perfection of breakfast the way some places are. I’d put it on par with Denny’s. If you want breakfast in the neighborhood, I’d go to Sewicks at 49 and Hawthorne but that’s just me!

Came here over Labor Day after cruising by half a dozen breakfast places that were closed for the holiday. It was busy, so we grabbed a booth in the corner that needed to be bussed and cleaned. No big deal to us, but the worker sure seemed annoyed. My husband and niece both had burgers and fries. I had breakfast that included all the staples(eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns). I took ages to order, but the food came fast. It was mediocre at best and we won’t be back.

Dined here a little while ago with a few friends of mine. The food itself was bland and mediocre. I had french toast that was ok, not great, no real spice or cinnamon or anything like that. The waitress wasn’t super slow or anything like that, but was clearly in a bad mood, short with us and rude. She snapped at one of my friends when he asked if he could swap a side on one of the dishes. Completely uncalled for and unprofessional. I can’t give this place one star, since to get there for food, my rule is I have to either not be able to finish the food(I was), or the service was really slow or they got things wrong(they didn’t), but the rude server and lack of flavor gets me to two stars. Probably won’t be back.

I’ve been coming to Dianes for about 2 years and I’ve never bothered to Unilocal it. So this will be an extensive one to compensate for it. I generally come 2 times a week for breakfast, I can say I’ve never been disappointed. Dianes definitely goes back to basics and that’s a good thing! The plates are presented well, portions big!!, unless you don’t like that. Prices are very good… Staff is very pleasant, and attentive. Coffee always fresh. and can I just say CONSISTENT !!! .its hard to find restaurants and cooks that can be consistent. The décor, tho it lacks a much needed update. Its still very clean And, well I find myself indifferent towards that’s just fine I can deal with outdated, since everything else over Compensates for it. I’m very happy to give Dianes my business and always encourage others to give it a try. Keep in mind I live in Vancouver and drive 11 miles just to have breakfast here. It’s worth it to me. Great way to start my day.

I’ve driven past this diner over a hundred times over the years, but never dined here. Today was the big day. My son and I just finished a teeball game and was hungry. These days in Portland, you have to line up for 30 – 45 minutes just to grab a seat for breakfast only to find out the food is overrated. Diane is a true diner, back to basics menu with big portions. The coffee was good, but the breakfast was even better. They were all attentive and provided great service. They filled my coffee about 5 – 6 times. Did I mention the coffee was gooood? Recommendations: perfectly made over easy eggs, sausage links, and ask for your hash browns to be extra crispy. Regular pancakes(the blueberry was too tart for our liking). I would have posted a picture of our food, but we did 187. RIP breakfast plates. We’ll definitely be back!!!

Sat at the counter mid-morning, service was friendly but a bit slow. Had steak and eggs with biscuit and gravy. Steak was a little tough, but it was a $ 9.00 breakfast. B&G was huge and very good. Would go back, but next time will try an Omelete.

Super slow service. I had to flag down a different waitress to refill the coffee. There were crackers in the sugar container. The waitress got upset that we removed it because now we contaminated the sugar. Here’s a thought, get packaged sugar instead of making your customers think previous customers placed crackers in the sugar container to be annoying. Also, eggs and bacon shouldn’t come with hair. Absolutely disgusting place and will never go again, not even if my life depended on it.

A restaurant perfect in its imperfections. Been coming here for years and is our default place for breakfast. Food is cheap, simple, always consistent and delicious. Good service too. It’s a typical diner in a typical neighborhood doing what it does best.

I’m not sure what it is, but I love me some diner food. We ended up here because it’s down the street and around the corner, and we were avoiding the insane line at Hot Cake House. We sat ourselves immediately with no wait on a Saturday around 10. We were happy that the wait staff was comprised of the stereotypical diner waitress. It’s all part of the experience, right? At least they do blueberry pancakes justice. I hate getting pancakes with any fruit added. «Banana nut pancakes» or «blueberry pancakes» end up being buttermilk pancakes with a bunch of crap just piled on top. Diane’s cooks the blueberries into the pancake. That’s how it’s done, folks. Bacon was crisp, pancakes were yummy, syrup was a plenty, coffee was always hot and full, and the bill was cheap.
