Custom House Parking Garage

Don’t park here. They will kidnap you and force you to pay $ 25 extra in ransom to leave. Scammers.

This is the parking garage that my place of work uses, so I get 50% off the monthly rate. However, though I don’t pay it, the day rates are fair, especially for being right in the Old Port.
The parking staff is friendly, and I’m usually met with a smile and a «Have a good night» exit the garage after work. It’s a nice little thing to happen every day.
As far as the facilities are concerned, the place is clean and well-​ventilated. The roof of the garage has a lovely view of the Old Port and Casco Bay. Seagulls gather up there and hang out on ledges. I’ll sometimes park up there along with them and hang out in my car and enjoy the view if I have time to kill before work.
I will say that I’ve been parking in that garage every workday for a year, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how the thing is laid out. It’s like and Escher painting in there! At time this results in a «so close but yet so far» scenario where you are in proximity to your car, but separated by a level and need to take a short walk to access it. It can be a little frustrating, but I’m sure it’s laid out like that for a reason.
All in all it’s a great parking garage.

Well I am the first reviewer here, but I am sure others will follow… I had an extremely bad experience with this place tonight. They do not have it written clearly anywhere that this is a private parking lot. It says public parking to confuse people. Then when it says a closing time, it does not only mean you cannot get in beyond that, it also means you cannot get out and so if you get delayed you get locked out with all your belongings in the car. This was the memorial day weekend. I have not seen such a parking lot ever where you cannot get in yourself to get your car out as it is a private property. So the only way it can happen is you call the security company. They took 1.5 hours to come in and get us out. there were atleast around10 or more drivers (from in and out of town) who had their cars stuck inside the garage. The lady working at the counter closed the lot and threw us out in the streets saying that we cannot stay in as it is a private property. To top with that, we had to pay parking fees for the extra time the car was there, plus 25 dollars service fee for each car that needed to get out. This was unbelievable as the 25 dollar fee was not clearly mentioned in the big board on the entrance gate. This was in top of all the time we wasted waiting there to get the cars out as the next day was memorial day and the parking lot was going to be closed. Beware guys, this is not public parking even if it says outside, this is a parking lot on private space.
People who park there at nights and who were going in and out at the same time we all were stuck outside the garage mentioned that this is the same story for every weekend as this story gets repeated. It almost seems like this could be a scam to fool people that this is a public parking. This parking is managed by MHR Management LLC.
I urge people who are reading this review to request anybody who had similar experience to share their experience on Unilocal and anywhere where it is easily accessible by people.
I am also in touch with other people who have gong through this experience and is trying to get together and fight against the inconvenience and loss of time this has resulted to multiple people. I am sure other people have suffered this at the same place, and they need to speak up.
