Cruise America Motorhome Rental & Sales

NOTE: This review is directed towards the national Cruise America company and it’s customer service — NOT the kind folks from Scott Motors, the rental location at SE 82^nd Ave.
My wife and I had a very poor experience with Cruise America in June/​July. For an 11 night trip, they sent us off with an RV containing a broken plumbing system. Every time we had to empty the tanks during the trip, I ended up with raw sewage all over me. I believe that this is something that should have been easily checked prior to handing us over the keys. Frankly, if you’re renting an RV, it is imperative that three things work: the kitchen, the bathroom and the engine. Otherwise, get a tent for a fraction of the price. To make matters worse, every time I called customer service while on the road to resolve the situation somehow, I would be put on hold, then told an agent would call me back, then receive a call hours later, only to be told that there was no help available. I must have called 6 – 7 times, begging them to direct me towards someone that could fix the vehicle. One time I was told on Friday afternoon to call back on Monday morning. Absurd. As a result, we were never able to dry camp and did not visit many of the out-​of-​the-​way places that we intended to. These RVs are not cheap — I think our all-​in cost came out to roughly $ 220/​night — and I expected a significant refund for this mishap. However, I was provided with a credit for only about $ 150 and told no other credit would be issued regarding this.
I wish I didn’t have to write this review for this rental office. They are really very good and simply made a mistake in not checking the RV plumbing before sending us on our way. The Scott Motors rental office was very helpful and understanding. I would rather this review be on a national Cruise America business because in general, I will never rent an RV from the company again, regardless of city or location.

This is a great Cruise America office. Linda, the office manager goes out of her way to make things run smoothly.
Our rental was spotlessly clean and we had no problems in our 1,500 mile journey.

Only gave 1 star because I could not give none. Absolutely awful. We visited in person about renting 3 RVs for my wedding in August. They were extremely helpful and kind in person. However, after we purchased one of the three rentals (which were $ 650 apiece) they became extremely rude and had the attitude of «we are going to rent them anyway, so we do not need to accomodate you.» All we asked for was to pick them up a few hours earlier than the typical 1 p.m. time. We needed them earlier to get to the rehearsal dinner that night. This is not an outrageous request in my mind. We would have given them almost $ 2000 of our money. I’m just glad we discovered their true nature before they received any. Will spread the word to ALL of our friends and family to NEVER rent from this company.

This was the first time I had ever rented a motor home. After reading many reviews of Cruise America my wife and I truly became fearful of the sort of experience we might have. However, our experience at the Portland, Or rental center was absolutely first rate! The were friendly, helpful, and instructive. They did not mind that I showed up early for pickup and actually helped me get out the door as quickly as possible. When I returned the motor home they listened carefully to some concerns (not their fault), wrote them down, and immediately communicated with the Cruise America Corporate office. If you plan to rent a motor home from Cruise America the Portland rental center will take great care of you. I highly recommend them.
