I’ve been crossfitting for going on two years now and this was my first time doing a drop in WOD while traveling on vacation. I am so glad that it was at CrossFit Portland with Coach Scott! I had an amazing experience and definetly recommend dropping in for any traveling crossfitters! CrossFit Portland thanks to the amazing experience I’ll be planning another trip to just come out here soon, keep in mind I’m from LA near the LAX airport. Thanks guys!

I started as a total newbie, and was worried that the people who trained at a crossfit gym would be less than welcoming to somebody like me (out of shape, never lifted weights before). I have been a member here for almost 2 years. Prior to joining I checked out several of the other crossfit and group fitness places in the area. No where else even compares to the quality of coaching, equipment and space that you get at Crossfit Portland.
I greatly appreciate the thought that goes behind each workout and training block, the attention to correct movements, ability to scale and adjust workouts to account for injuries or differences in fitness levels.
There is a great community here and the owners are open and receptive to feedback from all members.

I started at Crossfit Portland in 2012. My husband and I both moved into town, wanted to workout together but like different things (I like cardio – dislike weights, he’s the opposite) – this is no longer the case. We both thought crossfit might be good to try; we signed up for Jump Start with Sean and haven’t stopped since.
We began with 201 classes, really liked and were challenged by the classes. Within a few months I could see physical changes and improved fitness.
Fast forward to 2013, I had a baby – did crossfit until the day I delivered in fact – and ended up depending on Crossfit Portland for my continued sanity and awesome childcare!
I had some post-​delivery complications and needed more than just modifications for class. I talked to coach Madoc about my needs, he listened, did research, and developed a program for my post-​delivery needs. I liked the programming so much, I stayed with it for nearly a year.
I am now back to regular classes – actually doing the competition program for fun.
I feel more capable, physically, then I ever have. I also notice that the movements, programs, and coaching methods translate directly to everyday activities.
And the people are amazingly nice – such a supportive community all around!

I’ve been with Crossfit Portland about 8 months. My fitness background prior to that was taking group classes at a traditional gym and attempting Crossfit for the first time at a different place for about 2 months prior to giving Crossfit Portland a shot — and I’m happy I did!
Attention and feedback are pretty critical to me. In the past at other facilities, the attention I got started off great, but then would slowly lessen as time passed; the less «new» I was, the less attention and feedback I would receive. I really thought attention fading away with time was a normal practice up until I joined Crossfit Portland — it’s not normal, nor should it be and it’s definitely not here.
At Crossfit Portland. the attention and feedback I’ve received has been consistent with every coach (who have all been there for extended periods of time) since I’ve started and it has not lessened in my time here at all. They go above and beyond to ensure this.
One of the most valuable things Crossfit Portland has done for me is that it has given me the ability to try new things and not be afraid. I think most people don’t try new things in fear that they’ll fail at it and/​or be embarrassed. Crossfit Portland eliminated this fear for me without me even realizing it at the time by the environment they have created — I can lift some weight, get in some double unders, and climb a rope — all because I got so incredibly comfortable trying new things here! I didn’t play around with equipment before or push my limits as much at other facilities because I really just wasn’t comfortable, confident, or felt safe enough doing so. You miss out on a lot of progress and fun with this worry. It’s an incredible feeling once you get passed this and you won’t know it until you experience it. This followed me outside of the gym as well and is more valuable than you realize.
Before signing up I noticed it was a bit pricier than other places — 8 months later I realize why and it’s well worth the price. There is such a wide variety of knowledge, passion, and experience packed into this place and its coaches its incredible. They care about your overall well being outside of your workout in a way that’s very rare with fitness facilities. They write specific warm ups and recovery for each Workout of the Day (this is not the case everywhere), teach stretching and mobility, and give you lots of laughs along the way. The friendly, helpful, and welcoming members here are just an added bonus. Check out their website, blog, Facebook, YouTube videos — Google the founders and coaches. It’s pretty awesome. You won’t find anything comparable and you get more than you paid for both physically and mentally.
PS — prior to the last couple years I did not have any sort of consistent fitness or workout routine whatsoever, so if you’re brand new to this stuff, don’t hesitate! And no, I wasn’t paid to write this and have no affiliation with this place besides being a proud member. Thank you Crossfit Portland! I actually look forward to my workouts for the first time in my life!

This box is not bad at all; I’m giving it a three star because there’s nothing spectacular about it. When I looked at their website, it stated that drop-​ins are $ 20 so I paid for me and my partner. ($ 40) We expected to pay, I suppose, but we’ve visited other boxes where we didn’t have to pay for the first visit. Instead of paying to workout for the first time at a box, we buy shirts instead. We collect CF shirts whenever we travel. Let’s just say, we ended up paying another $ 40 for shirts. Basically, $ 80 for a workout/​shirt was definitely not worth it.
We also had a workout that consisted of med balls. Ok. It’s our fault we don’t do much with med balls at our own box; however, we couldn’t really grasp the idea of running 400m doing a basketball toss of some sort with the med ball, and there wasn’t a certain technique to do it effectively. It was a strange move.
HOWEVER, the coach, Maddoc (sp?) was super friendly. We also met a member, Rika (sp?) who welcomed us. The box itself was an organized chaos and it had some cool concepts like a wall dedicated to members who have been there for more than two years and a kids’ room for the little ones. It’s worth checking out, definitely.

I’ve been going here for about a year. Crossfit Portland has a friendly community and a great staff.
If you’re looking for more than a workout, this is the place. In the year I’ve trained I’ve gained strength, but more importantly I have much better mobility, form and confidence in my movements.

Hands down the best cross fit gym in Portland! Very knowledgeable instructors who care about you, your individual workout and health.
Clean gym, with lots of equipment and room.

I’m giving Crossfit Portland five stars for a simple reason — it is the only program, and the only exercise environment that has ever worked for me. By «worked» I mean it the only place that made me feel educated about my health and fitness — that pushed me to my limits every single day, but also let me feel in control and safe about it at the same time. Also, by «worked» I mean I lost 25lbs and grew my first visible abdominal muscle (ever) within the span of less than two months. Now, after 7 months the relationship I have with my body has changed — it feels like I have discovered, at last, a path to being what I want physically… it is impossible to gain strength and mobility without also gaining confidence at the same time — being more fit simply feels like I am being more ME.
What makes Crossfit Portland work for me are these things:
–The workouts are scalable, so I can always participate, but at the speed and weight that is right for me.
–The trainers are watchful, encouraging and knowledgeable, so I always have real-​time feedback if I’m doing a movement slightly off, or if can do something better.
–The program is a financial commitment, I pay good money to go so I don’t let sessions go unused.
–Classes are comprised of a really wide range of people — big, little, strong, not so strong… and we are all working to max endurance… which means, regardless of how fit you are, you all feel more or less equal.
I don’t know how other crossfit gyms are, and how they are run, but I will say that this one has it right. It works — if you try it, it will work for you too.

This place is amazing, and if you give it the chance, it will change your life.
3 months ago, I walked in 40 lbs overweight, weak and out of breath after two flights of stairs. That’s all changed now. This place has given me a level of fitness I have not seen since completing a NOLS course in my teens. I’m leaner, I’m stronger and I feel better about almost every part of my life.
The coaching staff is excellent, and combines just the right level of carrot and stick to keep you motivated through very tough, very rewarding workouts. Equally important, it has attracted a diverse community of great people.

I was one of the reigning queens of skinnyfat for many years, obsessed with staying in a certain bodyweight range. When my focus was just on the scale, I could jog for an hour or do a Jillian Michaels workout DVD, but I still looked like a doughy breadstick. (I also did pilates for a number of years and occasionally went to a basic gym to use the circuit weight machines.)
I had no clue how to become stronger until I started coming to CF Portland. I’ve now been a member for almost a year And finally, in my mid-​30s, I’m the most physically strong I’ve ever been in my life and have broken a 15-​year curse of being obsessed with my weight. Instead, I’m able to focus on how much weight I can lift, or how well I’m improving at particular skills (e.g. climbing a rope or doing a handstand) – goals that actually make my body look better and healthy.
I’m not going to lie and say that I immediately gained muscle and that just by showing up to class everything magically improved. However, with the great coaching at CF Portland and individual attention that they actively give to all members, I’ve made quantifiable gains over the past year. You have to work hard and if you were never athletic (like me) there’s a lot to learn, but stick with it and you’ll actually see yourself do things you never thought were possible.

OK, I apologize ahead of time if this review is a little long, but I want to give you all of the details!
About a year ago, I thought I’d give Crossfit a try, and a groupon came out for another local Crossfit gym. I’d been running and frequenting classes like spinning, body pump, and yoga for a while, so I thought that the class environment was really something I’d enjoy. So I went to the other gym and gave it a try. While I enjoyed the challenge of the workout, I felt like something about the gym wasn’t quite right. Their location was dirty, people were unfriendly, and the coaches didn’t seem to give a crap about me or my workout. I sensed a big injury in my future if I continued to train there.
Not one to give up that easily, I decided to check out Crossfit Portland instead. Their website was the first clue to me that they had their stuff together. Their workout was posted each day, and they had lots of helpful articles from the coaches, as well as some info on what the gym members were up to. They also had special classes for newbies, so I felt more comfortable already! I called them up and signed up for my first class right away.
From the beginning of my time at Crossfit Portland, I knew that this was the gym for me. The coaches are AMAZING — they know their stuff, and they really care about the members. The 101 classes (now a program called Jump Start) were a great way to ease into Crossfit — they taught proper form for everything in great detail before having us do any crazy metcon or max lifts. Even though I’ve been doing the 201 classes for a while, the coaches STILL take the time to review the proper form for lifts that we’ll be doing in class.
Another really cool thing about Crossfit Portland is the Custom Goals Training. As a part of your membership, they will put together specific plans to help you tackle your personal goals. So if you want to do a pull-​up, the’ve got a plan for that. Working on your deadlift? They’ve got a plan for that too!
They are constantly working to improve the gym, with new class offerings, special programs, and social events.
Overall, if you want a challenging workout, with an awesome set of coaches and a friendly environment, Crossfit Portland might be the gym for you!

My husband and I are current CF affiliate owners in Dunmore, PA (Keystone CrossFit) and we visited CF Porland over two years ago and I just wanted to write a nice reveiw about their gym because they left a great impression on us.
Their facility is super clean and their coaches were very knowledgable of movements, technique, and they gave us quality coaching.
When we walked in the door the coaches were practicing handstand holds against the walls, while another coach was eating his super healthy lunch. Right off the bat we knew we visited the right CF gym in that area.
We wanted to workout but we weren’t familiar with their hours, unfortunately we missed the last class and were too early for the next class, but they let us do our own workout! When we went to pay for the day they told us not to worry about it and that they were glad we were able to stop by.
I would definitely visit again! We’d love to come for an actual class next time we visit Portland! I also keep telling my family out West, that they need to start CrossFitting, and that CF Portland is the place to go!

I’ve always considered myself an active person… that is until I joined Crossfit Portland in February. After hearing good reviews about this location in particular I decided to call up the owner. A few minutes later I joined. It’s been an absolute blast.
Along with the trainers, the people at the gym are encouraging and simply wonderful. The trainers are knowledgeable, professional and super nice. I’m a lot weaker than the other people in my classes so with certain workouts they help me scale it if necessary but make sure I am still pushing myself.
I know there are a plethora of new Crossfit gyms opening up in the Portland Metro region but I would HIGHLY recommend Crossfit Portland.

I found out about Crossfit early this year, and researched many places before I settled on Crossfit Portland. It’s the best decision I’ve made for me and my health.
Why this place? Easy. The people. The community. The knowledge, kindness and nonstop encouragement from all of my fellow crossfitters. The gym is huge, but yet personal. I get the attention and direction I need, and I’m never bored.
Location is great for me, and believe me location is key for me. I work in Hillsboro and live in SE. I needed something that fit my schedule, easy to get to and gave me a reason to come back again and again.
Don’t wait, just go.

I have had a very positive experience at Crossfit Portland. I love the community that exists around this gym. There is a wide variety of people. Different shapes and sizes, various fitness levels, everyone working together to reach their fitness goals. The workouts are all done in a class format. The owners also seem invested in fostering a positive learning environment. If you are interested I would highly recommend just stopping by the gym and checking it out.

I found out about crossfit few months ago and decided to give it a try and go outside my comfort zone. Until this day, I’m so glad I found out about Crossfit and have been telling my friends to try it out. The workouts are different every time so I don’t get bored. The class environment is very supportive, and just competitive enough to keep things interesting. The trainers are helpful and will show you proper forms on the exercises — especially those olympic weight lifting. I’ve never done any weight lifting until I started Crossfit and I’ve seen a lot of progresses. I’m able to lift up heavier weight than what I started few months ago.
The only downside of this place is that the later classes (5:30 and 6:30 pm) get filled up really fast. They put a max of 15 people per class but I’ve seen more than 15 showed up to class, making it hard to work out in the small space that they have.
The good thing: they are moving to newer building where it’s a lot bigger and more equipments than what they have right now.
