Cool Cottons

I love this place. Quaint, quiet and beautiful, modern textiles. I love that I can have a brief convo about my goals, but then I am left to quietly contemplate my fabric selections. Far from a depot, but just right for a nice, inspiring neighborhood fabric shop.

Love! Love! Loved this shop! I went to several different fabric shops around Oregon and this was my favorite. Probably because they had the nicest selection. Every nook and cranny was filled with bolts of high quality modern fabrics. It’s a dream for a modern quilter! Also I was so shocked to see the huge selection of Shot Cotton. I’ve never seen this! The shop is small BUT the owner has done a fantastic job of displaying the fabrics by color scheme. I can’t say enough!

Sweet fabric shop in a terrific walking neighborhood. Awesome variety of cottons, and the owner was a GEM. Will visit again when I’m in Portland.

I love supporting Marie at Cool Cottons. I easily get overwhelmed with options and have a hard time picking out fabric for my projects so I deeply appreciate that she’s patient, helpful and has a sense of humor. I wish more shop owners understood this level of service. I love this place! Annnnd — cutest fabric ever.

My new favorite fabric store! Marie is warm, welcoming, and full of knowledge! It reminded me of Stitch Lab in Austin… great fabric choices and super hip!

Awesome little fabric store on close-​in SE Hawthorne. It looks like home, and feels like it too. Although the shop is small, its coziness lends to its charm and makes the experience even more fun. As for merchandise, its a cute store with an equally cute array of fabrics on display, by color, tucked away in various corners of the house. What they do best, I found, was unique and often goofy prints, as well as pattern prints. Its all cotton, and in ample supply. Great service, comfortable space. No dedicated parking that I know of.

LOVED this store. The lady there was so nice and stayed beyond closing time to wait for me and my indecisiveness to pick a fabric. Everything is SO organized, I loved browsing the different collections. I just couldn’t decide, everything is so cute! There are also patterns for sale, next to the pieces themselves. It’s a definite stop if you’re into sewing and quilting!

I love this store! They have a unique and huge selection of fabrics. I love the fact that they have the fabrics separated by colors. It’s a charming little store.

A fabric shop specializing in hip, modern prints, you’re guaranteed to find something to your liking! I’m not a hipster– too old to get away with that stuff anymore– but am a HUGE sucker for cute fabric that calls my name! You’ll find it here, no matter your style. She has the fabrics wonderfully organized by color/​tone, making it easier to search for what you need. I made a special trip here from Seattle because her stuff is so darn cute! Your inner Creative Goddessness will be truly inspired by all the goods here!

I live in southern California and I am fabric obsessed. I’d rather buy fabric than shoes or clothes. I’ve been to quite a few quilt shops in California, and nothing comes close to this place. The main reason I’m giving 5 stars is because the fabrics are beyond CUTE. Who ever orders the bolts at this shop has extremely good taste. The fabrics are very trendy and beautiful. Please don’t skip this one.

I recently visited this store twice. The first visit was pleasant enough, and the employer helping me was engaging. They have great fabrics, but the collection is poorly curated. You’re really on you own for anything more than prints in a similar shade.
The reason I’m only giving 2 stars is for my second visit. I went in to ask about a fabric I had recently purchased. The woman running the store (who I believe was the owner) was unbelievably rude! I had planned to purchase more fabric, but she made me feel so uncomfortable, I just had to leave. Despite the interesting prints, I definitely won’t be back.

This is a really great fabric store. Many unique fabrics not seen anywhere else. Helpful and friendly staff. If you are looking for quilting or home décor fabrics, this is the place to go!

Cozy little shop with walls of colorful and cool fabrics. So many choices — I definitely bought more than I went in for (beware — it’s hard to resist). The fabrics are so organized and neat. My little one was even able to toddle around the place while I picked out my fabrics without getting into too much mischief, and the lady working their was so sweet and friendly while letting me do my thing without bothering me.
We will definitely be back! (Oh and don’t forget to get a punch card while you are there!)

My friend and I went to Cool Cottons to get materials for our halloween costume — they couldn’t have been a better find! The lady who owns the store was extremely nice and helpful… the way customer service should be. The price was fair and the service was good — highly recommend

When my daughter decided to attend grad school in Portland I was glad for her and her future but I was also thrilled for me!
I knew that we would get to visit her and I would get to investigate the epicenter of the Modern Quilting Movement. For you non quilters (I am sorry) this might not mean anything but for me, this was terribly exciting
I’ve been quilting for over 30 years and while there are many traditional aspects which I adore about the art, I and the movement, needed to grow, change and include more ways for us to express ourselves.
Visiting quilt stores in Portland has been such an amazing pleasure for me. In Chicago we don’t have nearly as many shops which are as fresh and modern as there are here in Portland. Not only is the Modern Quilt Guild headquartered here but the shops reflect it.
Cool Cottons is so aptly named, they have cottons and they are cool, beyond cool. The shop is in the first floor of a terrific converted former single family home. Sounds odd but it works wonderfully. You walk in and the COLOR just knocks you over! I felt I needed more orange in my life so I couldn’t get enough of the orange section.
The woman who owns the shop was so personable and grew up in the Chicago area so we had a great time.
If you are a quilter you simply HAVE to come here, in fact, I think it’s a law.
My only issue, why does Portland get all the cool fabric stores?

Very cute. Cottons (of course). Organized by color shade and style. Easy to find items and an adorable former victorian home. If you are a quilter (or looking exclusively for cotton prints) it’s worth a stop.
While there, be sure to ask to see the gayest fabric print known to man. (As if every cowboy has six pack abs.)

I wanted to purchase all the fabrics (which is what everyone says) — and if you go inside the store, you will know why! The shop has great taste. I think everyone would find something (lots of things) that they would like.
I will def. come back to visit this shop again when I’m in Portland.

I only recently found myself interested in fabrics and patterns. I dragged my guy here after we had lunch in Portland and to my surprise he found some fabrics he liked too. That is because this awesome fabric shop has Pac-​Man fabric (Mike suggested we make a table cloth out of it with Pac-​Man shaped placemats) and Space Invaders fabric (which we bought). I figure, if a fabric place can inspire creativity in my electrical engineer who is NOT in touch with ANY feminine side, it deserves five stars!
The person at the counter was helpful, friendly and fast. We were in a bit of a hurry and she managed to help two other people in between cutting our fabric! She was awesome!
The selection is awesome here. There is a blog for the store to announce when new fabrics come in, especially if they are really cute! I am glad we were in a hurry, I could have spent a lot more time and certainly a lot more money. The store is clean and organized. Oh yeah, and they have a punch card for frequent fabric shoppers!
I will definitely be back!

The best fabric store I’ve ever been to in the whole country (I’m from Boston)! The patterns are unique and totally adorable. The quality is excellent too! I wanted to buy them all! Instead I bought $ 70 worth of fabric and got started on a million projects the second I got it all home. You can buy various sizes of fabric too — by the yard, fat quarters, and leftover scraps at great price points. The owner is fantastic too, she chatted with me the entire time I was in the store. Also, the vibe is really awesome — Cool Cottons is built into like a living room and it has such charm. I love this place and cannot wait to come back.

This is a wonderful place for fabric. The selection and quality are both superior to any other place I’ve ever been for fabric.
