Dang it Roger M, I did NOT need a new spot to come spend my money! This is one of the hole in the wall spaces in the Creative Space on Lovejoy. When I dropped by they had fresh fruit outside on little table. The owner was outside chatting with a neighbor(but came right over to help me). Inside is packed with a nice selection of stuff from Spain and France. It’s hard to list the selection as it is quite varied but you could make a great meal from here! On the left is food and books. On the right is mostly drinks, wine, cider(hard stuff from Asturias in Spain mmmm), Some non-alcoholic pastis(who knew they made that?) etc. some food and spices are here. In front is more spices and the candies. From the ceiling hangs whole legs of Spanish jamon! The lady working there told me some of what I had picked up was half price! She also told me the selection will change often with seasonal items, She was really nice with great service. She didn’t seem to mind that I interrupted her chat and mostly just looked and bought a couple of items. I will be back, and I will bring others! Tip: from Spain there is a confection called rabitos they are figs in liquor dipped in chocolate. They are some of the best things I have ever eaten. The owner said they are about to come in. If they are there when you visit I recommend stocking up. Even in Spain they are a seasonal thing. There is a lot of goodness in that small shop. It is well organized and packed! If you like food or Iberic stuff and have not yet been you should go, I say that in my own self interest; I want them to make it(and grow bigger!!).

Walking up Lovejoy from the Pearl toward the Alphabet District(just past Go-By Cab) at 17th a small side walk shop with fresh berries outside caught my attention. I walked in and starting chatting with the owner. Only open for a few months now. It is a culinary shop of preserves, fermented goodies, meats, cheese, sauces, grains, olive oils, vinegars, French confections and wines. All sourced by the owners from specific regions in Spain and France. Now, the owner says he and his wife have long visited the farmers where they select all their products. They select farmers using sustainable practices. Some items are organic. I like what I see. Neatly organized shelves where you may discover some culinary delights in the specific regions of Spain and France, that you may not see in other PDX shops. I’m going to keep my eye on this place and give it try.
