I’ve been coming to this place for at least five years now, & I am never disappointed. With an extremely knowledgeable staff and ample supply of used and new parts, this is the go to place for your daily cyclist .
Outside the store they have several as is bikes that an enterprising individual give a tune up replace a brake pad and have your ride ready to go in no time. Inside they have personally overhauled several bikes that are guaranteed. New tires and tubes, bins of used parts for all your needs, the Community Cycling center is truly the place that you want to go when you have a quick need to replace a dérailleur, spoke, hub, anything.
Pricing is fantastic, local goods are carried, and the staff is always willing to help. Make this your first stop before you go anywhere else looking for bike parts in Portland.

My main gripe is their claim of providing used bikes at decent prices, I went there looking for a basic road bike, and the cheapest they had was a bike in bad shape that had at UO bike permit from the early 80s — priced at 275 $ !! Several of the other used road bikes were $ 400, $ 500 and even higher. I’m quite sure all these bikes were donated. Each bike had a tag detailing the needed repairs, the $ 275 bike I was considering needed another $ 150 in repairs, so just better off getting a brand new bike. I also had to wait about 30 min to speak with a staff person, but they were friendly and helpful.

Got some good tires, didn’t need new rims, which I would have not known the difference… They fixed my shifter also w/​o having to buy new parts. Was very happy with that! Got bike back next day, phoned as promised when ready.

I’ve been in here multiple times with a need for advice, a small adjustment, or product. Everyone working there has been courteous and thoughtful when it came to recommending any course of action, often letting me know if they had tools there they could borrow if I wanted to undertake the project myself. Not snooty, fast and efficient. A great shop!

I got great service from Andrea. She went the extra mile to help me find a small screw I lost off my bike bell :-p
I found the lights I was looking for and it looked like they had a great team of mechanics and they had a good selection of new and used bikes. I hope I don’t need to go back any time soon, but they will definitely be at the top of my list.

My sister and I used to love this place. I went in today and was treated so rudely by the girl, gwen I think was her name. Punk rock lady. She wouldn’t smile, and acted like I was stupid and such an inconvenience.

Walked in. I might as well have not even existed. Three people were working, and I didn’t even get acknowledged.

I was looking to do some volunteer work. To give back to the community for all the blessings that I’ve been bestowed upon me throughout my life. I LOVE cycling and as fate would have it, I was scooting along down Alberta Street, in need of a bracket for a strobe and there appears the community cycling center. So while I’m waiting on line, I pick up a flyer, and it’s essentially an application to join their volunteer program. Perfect… I’m in. I go to the first meeting where they explain what the programs about and where I could fit into it. It’s an awesome program. They accept and encourage donations of bicycles that might otherwise continue to collect dust in peoples garages and basements and attics. What I was aiming towards who’s the mutual benefits situation. I wanted to learn how to work on my own bike and at the same time donate my time in repairing and upgrading these donated bikes. In the course of doing so I learned so much about the mission of the community cycling center. Its all good. They take donated bikes, strip them down and safety check them. And then put them back together and replace any broken or worn out parts. Then they store these bikes and collect them and then at Christmas time, they distribute them to underprivileged children.
My friend Shawn and I have had the discussion about their program. Shawn is in management with one of the largest employers in the nation. His idea is to offer one of his employers’ facilities and create a bicycle safety training course that will allow children and adults, to learn about bicycle safety in a structured environment that would be sponsored by his employer. Very exciting community to be part of. CCC … YOU GUYS ROCK !

Just picked up an As-​Is bike at a great price and got a couple minor repairs, all for around a hundred bucks. If you’re on a budget and just need a decent commuter, you can’t go wrong here.

Probably average bike shop competence but it just crushes my soul every time I have to go in there and speak to an employee. These people are reluctantly helpful. They are basically banking on their monopoly of location in the Alberta area here.

I just now dropped in to ask about my dérailleur skipping at take off. I walked into the store with two other customers ahead of me, in total making it a ⁵⁄₄: employee/​customer ratio. The one free employee had left out the back leaving myself to wonder the used racks. I did so for fifteen minutes and left with no words or acknowledgements. I didn’t think much of it until I returned half an hour later and I found myself wondering around the shop – again– waiting for something or anything to happen. THEN IT HIT ME! I must be a ghost. Perfect example supporting this, I had a bike techie walk by three times without saying a thing, the only attention I received from him was the assault on my nostrils. In the brooding up until my internet rage, I’ve decided now that I’m content getting the service I want at a premium. I’m set on paying full price for my bike servicing elsewhere. Where the store doesn’t smell like a sweat lodge. F*** THIS PLACE!

This place is absolutely fantastic! I can’t say enough good things about them. Having moved to Portland from the Midwest, my husband and I haven’t ridden bikes in a while but wanted to start. These guys taught us about sizing and maintenance to help get us started. We were able to purchase two used bikes that needed a little maintenance. We spent under $ 500 for both which really surprised us! We were also looking for a bike rack for my car. The guy who helped us recommneded ReRack because they would have a better selection and lower price on racks. That’s unheard of! We have been back for maintenence and other purchases. This place is just the best!

Sometimes, you get good service and move on to the next thing. Sometimes you get good service, things go awry and then you really see if this place is all that.
In my case, a few weeks after getting my bike fixed I found myself taking a flying leap off the damn thing. The culprit? A loose brake pad twisted into the front wheel causing it to stop IMMEDIATELY. Ouch. Very embarassing to do that in front of, say, the WORLD.
I tried riding the olé girl another few days, but finally gave up and had a co-​worker drive me here a bit before closing. They took one look at the jacked up brake pad I held up and completed a full-​in depth inspection on everything and anything that may have snapped/​broken/​been destroyed while I poked around their store. The damages (besides my pride, left finger, a whole bevy of bruises) was the front brake system, fork, bike grips and shifters. It was all covered under warranty repairs and I got my bike back less than 12 hours after dropping it off — even more spiffy than pre-​crash (seriously, I am in love with the new shifters. Is that weird?).
Oh, they also asked if I was okay and apologized profusely. Hey, shit happens, and they fixed it without one iota of issue. I can heal, but I have zero idea how to fix a bike. This is officially my bike shop until I bike no more.

Great shop. Lots of new and used gear and parts. I recently had a front-​tire brake installed and the process went seamless. Gram walked me through a few different options regarding parts and labor and let me choose which way I’d like to go, without pressure. They were able to get the job done on the same day (they’re open 7 days a week which I love) and the job came in under the estimate… always a nice bonus. I won’t hesitate to go back.

Got my bike ready for winter. The employees here are very honest about what is really necessary for your bike repairs and give you tips for taking better care of your bike.
Did you know you are supposed to rinse your tires off with a hose after riding on wet roads?

Just got a mystery leak on my back tire fixed here. I was assisted promptly, and the person that helped me was very kind and courteous and informative. The space is large and they have a great selection of bike accessories and hardware. I wouldn’t come here just expecting to find the perfect bike for yourself– it seems a lot that are for sale are used or refurb.
However, it seems selections move quickly, so there ARE always bikes available for sale. That seems to be the case with a lot of small bike shops in Portland, however, and yes, sometimes you just have to hunt for what you want. I don’t think their lack of available bike selection should warrant a 1 star review.
What I like and appreciate, as well, is their focus on community teaching/​learning. They offer workshops so you can learn to fix your bike (gasp!) yourself.
I’ll definitely be returning here for any repairs or purchases!

This is Nothing like they advertised!!:
We called them and talked about children’s (boy) bikes 16 inch & 18 inch. They said yah come on down we have a lot of them… Some out back and have some inside. We said: cool wr have a friend traveling from SE, so see u in a little bit.” STRIKE #1 (LIED ON PHONE)
When we got down there they only had kids bikes outside (in poor shape) and only 1, 16 inch child’s bike, Pink and Purple… Not a Boy Bike… strike #2!!!
Ok… onto bike #2… 18 inch Boy bike. It was a Teal Blue… Ok we could have dealt with the blue it is my son’s favorite color… But the flowers… The pink and purple flowers on the seat and up the frame! STRIKE#3
Where are all the Children’s choices for boys, when we called and asked u to check, it would have been nice, so we didn’t waist our gas and time!!!

I like this shop and most of the people working there. Has «used» bike stuff which I like and look for. Gram is a great person and has helped me lots in the past.
I do have a bit of a small complaint. Like mentioned before. You sometimes must wait too long at the counter. Always a line to pay or for service questions.
But, I do understand it gets busy some times and the shop is not huge.

If you’re looking to buy a used bike, I consider CCC to be an excellent place to start your search. Here’s what this place has going for them:
Unlike purchasing a bike on Craig’s list (or some comparable site), you have a full professional guarantee that a used bike purchased from here is up to all regulations and is safe for city streets. As a non-​bike expert, I appreciate that assurance of quality.
Workers are knowledgeable without being pretentious (a fine line in a specialized field like bike repair). Knowing as little as I do about bikes when I walked in, it was really nice that the employees were able to piece together what type of bike I would need for how I wanted to use it.
Furthermore, prices seemed totally reasonable.
Because used bikes are an unpredictable commodity, it’s hard to say if they will have exactly what you need. Fortunately, they have anticipated this challenge and give out cards with contact information for other used bike stores in Portland that they trust. All the more reason to make CCC your starting place in search for a used bike.
