This place was great in its simplicity. I can’t speak for its variety of coffees or foods because I only had a drip. What I can speak for was its vibe. My group and I popped in here to escape the rain and have some conversation and for this purpose it was perfect. The whole place is very chill and calm. In the front it feels bright and has plenty of light, while in the back is dark and warm so whatever feel you’re looking for can be found here. Coffee was delicious and they offer a free refill which fueled even longer conversation. This place was exactly what we were looking for this rainy afternoon.

This is a cute shop on 21st. People were friendly, great place to sit outside and people watch. Latte was tasty but the coffee was a little light for my taste.

The coffee is great and I really like the atmosphere. A large seating area with a variety of options(benches, chairs, sofas, etc.). I love working and hanging out here.

I really liked this place, so much that I searched for it again. After a few misses I managed to find it. I like a café that’s a bit dark & ‘pokey’ where you can hide away and get some work done in peace. The espresso was very good and the food options were tasty & pretty healthy. But best of all it reminds me of some of my favorite cafes in Belgrade — but without the choking cigarette smoke and dark & seedy mafia characters! Will now be my go-to café in Portland when I want somewhere to work and caffeinate.

If you like working in a communal space, Coffee Time is a reliable late night place with coffee, wi-fi and plenty of outlets to go around. The pastries aren’t anything exceptional and the coffee is all right, but the main reason to come to Coffee Time is the terrific workspace. For a city with so many working millennials, Portland closes down pretty early, but Coffee Time is a nice hobbity work space with the indoor architecture making the space feel like Bag End. There are dozens of outlets sprinkled through the store so you can park it and work if you need to and the password rotates, but is always on display by the register. It does run a little chilly if they leave the door open or don’t keep the heat on, but just layer up before you go. They also try to feature local artists with profits going to a good cause. I’m not too sure what the complaints about rude staff are about since everyone’s always been friendly when I’ve gone, but could just be on off days.

Cheap prices, open late and very chill vibe. Its my favorite coffee shop in the pearl area. The americanos are good as well as the tea. Sometimes it can be loud as groups meet here. A lot of chess too. The only things that I didnt like were dirty/stinky homeless living there and the wifi is sketchy sometimes.

I’m not so much of a coffee guy, so that norm that you see of people working on their laptops really never worked for me. I do like chai tea though. They make their own chai tea blend at Coffee Time, and I enjoy it. The cool baristas and free wifi in an interesting, expansive space are a bonus!

My favorite coffee shop! Cool atmosphere, great coffee, and even greater staff. A really nice place to hand out, relax and even play a game of chess.

The shop itself is great but I found that some of the staff are not necessarily friendly. I can particularly say this about the little Asian kid that works on Sundays, he is super rude. Others, no complaints. Otherwise, I love the fact that the place is open late, has plenty of space, nothing fancy but if you just want to get some work done or just browse this is a good place. They have some chess tables out side, if you feel like putting that highly caffeinated brain to use now.

Exactly what we needed on a cold rainy Sunday. A day alone with my husband. A babysitter for the entire day. If you have a day like this, and need a cozy place to relax and enjoy a yummy pastry and coffee, this is the place to come. Still inviting and somehow intoxicating after coming to this hole in the wall coffee shop for over 10 years. I really miss the secret room in the back of the shop, and the darkness that the new recessed lights brighten up. But I guess some people have real work they want to get done. Haha Love this old gem.

I would say the only reason to go to coffee time is because it’s open late in a town that wraps up 9pm.(Darn, it Portland, what are we owls supposed to do?) Or maybe if you’ve been treated too nicely that day and want to balance out your good mood with some rude and dismissive ‘service’ from an uptight coffee-pourer(to call him a ‘barista’ would be too generous.) It’s a cool space. So it has the potential to be a great find in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the opportunities in the space tend to be overshadowed by the strikingly not-friendly, uptight staff who are clearly unhappy with their own lives and are glad to bring some unhappiness to yours. If you do go, enjoy a stunningly amateurish, very creepy, dark mural of passed out strippers and gangster violence on the back wall. Bizarre mismatch.

I enjoy coffee time as a study spot. Don’t let the swarms of people, some being homeless ward you off. It’s a good spot to delve into hours of homework or simply reading a book. It’s always heavily crowded but not too loud. They have a decent menu of coffee, teas and light sustenance. On my recent visit I ordered a herbal tea that was called Ruby something and it was delicious as well as a GF coffee cake that was pretty good.

The best coffee shop in my neighborhood and the ONLY one open late late(until midnight) — perfect for essay writing binges. The interior is very cozy and the people working have been always been polite to me. Sometimes the internet times out but usually it is good. Their espresso is perfect and they have a variety of pastries, plus bagels with smear and sandwiches they make and toast for you. Ask the barista for the chess piece bag and sit outside, there is a regular crowd of chess players here that will play with you. If you’re not into playing chess, there are plenty of seats inside, some with tables and some armchairs in the bag where you can curl up with a book.

An unexpected rain shower caused us to duck into this coffee shop to wait out the rain and get a morning snack. Enjoyed a vanilla rooibos tea and muffin. It was a pretty quiet place in the early morning hours, but was fairly busy when I walked by this evening.

This is one of the few, if the only, coffee shop in NW that is open past 9 or so. I love the midnight closing time about Coffee Time. I don’t have any complaints about the drinks or pastries, and in fact, I love the Salted Caramel Bar thing. So far, so good, yes? Yes. I only have two complaints: 1. The baristas play terrible music that is very loud and there are speakers throughout the whole shop. One day is was dubstep, the next it was screamo punk. I get that in Portland people are passionate about their music and if they want to play punk, they will. But most people in the shop are having conversations or trying to get work done and really loud and invasive music is for a bar or concert. Even with headphones it doesn’t drown out the music. 2. By the time it is 11 until closing time, I’ve had some encounters with people that have made me super uncomfortable. I live like three blocks away, so the grungy crowd of Portland isn’t new to me. But when I’m trying to finish an essay, having a older man sit very close to me and stare is not okay. Take the good with the bad I suppose.

When I moved to this neighborhood Coffee Time was a dump. I went anyway, because it was open super late and not a bar. Then I got sick of feeling like I needed a shower every time I left, so I stopped going for a while. A year or two ago now, CT cleaned up its act. It’s cleaner, the counter is tidy, and they have set hours. The bathroom is still disgusting if you ask me, and Water Ave coffee isn’t my favorite, but they have Petunia’s GF/vegan treats in addition to their regular baked goods and some more food offerings. I have gotten a number of weird tasting dirty chais here… not sure what that’s about, but I keep going back and usually stick to kombucha(on tap!) or iced americanos. Staff is friendly and there are lots of little nooks to sit in. Beware: many people on computers studying and/or working for hours on end, so it can be hard to get a place to sit if there are more than two in your party. I wish they were still open past midnight, but I’ll take the change with its associated positive influence.

Wow! The coffee here is amazing! Both my husband and I got the house cold brew, and I think it’s safe to say it’s the best in Portland. The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable about their coffee and the cold brew process in general. The vibe was great and even though you could tell there were tons of locals in the place, we felt very welcomed. HIGHLY recommend!

My husband is a coffee lover but I go for hot chocolate. If they only have a Ghirardelli chocolate then I’m not too excited. The place is really cool and lots of little cozy places inside to relax and visit but if my hot chocolate is lousy I won’t be back. Bummer for me

Cold brew and yummy food. I got a peppermint cold brew, seasonally apropos. They have square so you can pay by card. There is some parking on the street. Cool little place. I’d go back.
