Very nice coffee place on grand avenue. Great roast in keeping up with pdx’s high coffee standards. Nice open place, i believe they share the space with a furniture studio so its interesting to wander around and take a look at what they have made.

The coffee is delicious. I don’t do dairy, so generally I get Americano but I decided to do a almond milk latte. This is the first time that I thoroughly enjoyed a dairy free latte. It just tastes good. This spacious place shares space with Bamboo Revolution. Three long wood tables, a bar stool area and one small table, all communal. Plenty of natural light. The baristas are happy and smile easy and my coffee looked quite pretty.

The BEST cup of coffee I ever had was at this location. The milk was beautiful as was the espresso in my latte. The space was blended, warehouse meets coffee shop. Is it hipster? Definitely. The space is awesome, Coava roasts its own coffee and it’s apparent in their drinks.

I think this one lives up to the hype. Latte was one of the best ones I have had so far, smooth, creamy, not overly roasted. The cream cheese pastry was amazing. My boyfriend had a Honduras hand drip coffee, he said it was pretty good, fruity. I would love to go back if it wasn’t so far though. i second opening one in west Portland!

Come here during the holiday season and expect to see a GIANT Christmas tree in the store. I love the open space at Coava and the latte I ordered here was sweet and great. Coffee prices are similar to that of SF where a latte costs roughly $ 4 to $ 5 if I remember correctly. Coava also has a small gallery store/woodworking store within the coffee shop itself and let’s just say, those things in the gallery are beautifully made, but just nice to look at. At the time of my visit, there was a man displaying bamboo goods and most of the things looked awesome, but nothing a normal person could afford or buy instantaneously. Only reason I didn’t like about this place was that the interior was a tad empty. Although they had great open spaces, it fell a bit bare in my opinion.

The coffee here is in my opinion the best in Portland. Seriously, I’ve not had any better. The latte is perfection. The space is really original and I’m a bit mixed on how much I like it. It has big open spaces and sorta stylishly construction-esc. The baristas know what they are doing but maybe could be more friendly in greeting folks. Still the coffee is the best, thus the 5-star rating from me.

The space that this Coava is located at is SOCOOL. It’s probably because it’s almost Christmas time, but there was a giant 15 foot tree inside that looked awesome. As weird as it sounds, it gave it a very Portland vibe lol. Anywho, there’s a ton of space inside with room to breakdance(just to give you an idea). I believe that they share the location with a woodworking and crafts company, so there are some bowls, cutting boards and stuff for sale. Most of the coffee action happens along the west side of the building, which is where you’ll find the baristas and tables. I had their Ethiopian Meaza espresso and it was damn good! In their words, «black tea, honey comb, and sweet rose blossom mark the Meaza among the most delicious Ethiopian coffees we have ever tasted,» and I totally have to agree. I actually ended up with a bag of these beans to share with my coworkers. This is totally a spot I’d visit again!

I came here because I saw it on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and I am huge fan. Amazing warehouse/mechanic garage space converted into a café/art space very simple cement and wood furniture. I ordered a latte and loved the size of the mugs however it wasn’t hot enough which was super disappointing. I then proceeded to utilise free wifi and then ordered a short Mac which wasn’t too bad. I loved just chilling and people watching and the doors are still roll up garage doors which just adds to the fit out.

Huge open space with high ceilings and wooden everything. LOVE They share their space with Bamboo Revolution, but they seem to blend together because there’s tables against the wall that are open to Coava’s customers as well. Beautiful lattes, flaky pastries, hot coffee. I got the dark roast that day and it was delightful! Good, strong flavor. They drip each cup, which is really nice! Not just a pot of coffee that they keep hot and pour from. Each one gets its own special treatment The long tables are perfect for studying and hanging out. They also sell their beans and other Coava products. Check this place out if you want a good cup of coffee and want to enjoy a nicely designed space.

I usually drink mochas at coffee shops. Unfortunately, Coava does not have chocolate to make mochas. Nevertheless, I rank it as the top coffee shop in Portland. The macchiato(second picture on the left) is very strong and definitely gave me the energy I needed to complete a 3+ hour drive up to Seattle after my first trip to Portland. When I returned to Coava on my second trip, I ordered a soy latte. It is phenomenal and is my favorite drink in Portland. The shop is huge and feels like a warehouse. It is a great spot to sit down and do some work on your laptop as it provides wireless internet and there are outlets to plug in. I also tried the new Coava location on Hawthorne. I hated it. The barista completely messed up my drink. It was total slop and looked like the garbage that Starbucks makes. While it may be difficult to train all their baristas, the A team is definitely at the Grand Avenue location so it is not worth it to go to the secondary location. If you are traveling the Portland area and looking for recommendations, please see

Yes, I am a fan but I don’t know if I would go out of my way to this coffee shop but I know the next time I see Coava Coffee Roasters at a grocery store I would buy their beans. Their espresso blend makes their latte drinks so smooth and even when it gets cold after a while the espresso does not taste bitter like from other roasters and coffee shops. While buying coffee here, I was noticing how open this location is and great place to work with your laptop and some delicious coffee!

Coava is not only BEAUTIFUL(love the organic, wood feel) but the drip coffee is delicious! I personally enjoyed the smooth taste of La Esperanza more than the other one, but both were extremely delightful! As is the feel of the coffee shop, the coffee is presented in a manner that stays true to its natural form– e.g. no half and half on the counter to mask the beautiful aromatic smoothness of Coava’s roast. Oh and the bathroom here– beautiful! :)

Hands down, Coava Coffee Roasters is one of the most beautiful coffee shops in Portland. It’s spacious, airy and has fantastic lighting. Thanks to sharing the space with a company focused on sustainable flooring and furniture, the entire space is made of gorgeous woods, and is accented with antique manufacturing stations/tools. Oh, and they serve really, really, really good coffee. Really. I can’t speak to their espresso drinks, because I’m a cold brew boy. But for a measly $ 3, they’ll set you up with a fantastic iced coffee. The first time I ordered, I expected it to cost more, seeing as this place has such a stellar reputation and it’s such a beautiful buildout. This place just sort of screams«Bougie-Hipster Caffeine Palace», so reasonable-ish prices were a very pleasant surprise. Now, i know this goes against what I said about loving how spacious this shop can feel, but I do wish they had more seating. There is a TON of space available, and there have been many times that I couldn’t find a seat, unless I wanted to stand and work against one of the counters on the wall. That’s totally not my style, but I know it works well for others. I also wish there were more electric outlets, but what can ya do? There’s no doubt about it, from the product to the aesthetic, Coava Coffee Roasters is a top-tier shop for Portland. I’ll be back again and again and again.

I’m living in SF right now, and on a recent trip back to Portland, I stopped by Coava and was really confused about where I was. Folks were on their macs or talking about their app and tech marketing and that stuff. They had a super short menu of not cheap espresso drinks. The only way I could tell it wasn’t SF was that instead of being crammed in a tiny space, it was in a large building. It’s a large, open space with big windows and these things that look like tables on their sides, but are actually elevated pieces of bamboo flooring on their sides. I’ve returned a few times, and have had a great cappuccino every time. I wouldn’t say that it’s that great for working, aside from a meeting over coffee. The seating is sparse and it’s a popular spot, so it’s hard to grab a spot. But I’d definitely recommend stopping by for a fancy coffee drink if you’re nearby.

Organic milk as their default milk… How could you go wrong with that? Their cappuccino was divine!!! Loved every sip of it. Bold, strong, and smooth as silk. The interior is a super cool open space. Room to think, chill and enjoy your cup of java. A must visit place in Portland!

Our 3rd stop after landing at PDX :) We needed caffeine of course, and decided to stop off at Coava before our hike. My go to drink is an iced non fat latte but when trying someplace new I never order an iced beverage and rarely will order non fat. 1. some places may not even have it and 2. I want to try their milk just as the barista intends to make my latte although I firmly believe only babies should ever consume whole milk. I didn’t ask for non fat, I did order a latte and it was great! Was the latte I had at Barista the very next day better? Yes. Was the milk different? Perhaps, were the beans? I don’t think so. I did purchase a bag of coffee beans for home. I haven’t brewed any coffee yet but I will soon and an update will happen. Great, open space. Ample street parking. Perfect way to start our weekend in Portland. and if the fire department is decaffeinating here, I’m sure the city is in good hands :)

Great coffee and large open space with minimal decoration. Coffee is the focus here; which is a favorable trait for a top notch coffee shop. I loved my iced latte, but on the other hand, was slightly turned off by the uninviting environment. I wouldn’t say the baristas were the problem, I just felt out of my element at this particular shop. Inviting or not, I still had to take a bag of their finely fresh roasted coffee back home with me.

Simply stunning and unique… nothing I’ve ever seen approximates this kind of cool, hip, mixed use space!!! Like coming into a café wood museum, that strangely has a Japanese feel for me! I found my bag of precious beans and they’re next in the queue for my cafetiere at home! As always, single origin premium drip coffee, as many before me have remarked.

Hipster coffee hangout. Huge warehouse with lots of space for cool people like you and I. The barista are super friendly and nice. Unlike LA where I’m from. Lol. In LA im Guarded to sadly say — it’s the world that you’re in — a dog eat dog world. Even at a coffee joint people can be stuck up in LA. Portland, however, my God, how friendly is this place! Ahhh I can be myself and enjoy other’s company. Thank you for being a kind place where it allows me to be human. Cheers! Coffee is delish!
