Does Portland have any bad food? In terms of food and great little gems, this city is on another level. And I say this being a new yorker. This place has the best sandwiches and a great and friendly staff. I visited Portland and the gentleman who served me was accommodating and friendly. He spent the extra time telling us where to go and other fun activities to do. Really great dude. As for the food, I ordered the Roast Beef and horseradish. Absolute heaven…

Please don’t ever leave me. I need you in my life. There’s nothing in this town that compares to your grilled cheese. and that one tomato soup i’v tasted, it’s the best! Look, i don’t know how else to say it but, let’s just get married and i’ll only ever eat from you. I promise.

For $ 6 you get good quality cuts of meat and cheese on decent sourdough. And a lot of butter. Pretty greasy, but I like greasy. In fact this is exactly the type of sandwich I make at home. So why 2 stars? Because I can make this sandwich at home just as good and you can too. There is nothing special about this sandwich, and your six bucks can go a lot farther at so many other places.

Perfectly prepared crispy sourdough sandwich with melted cheddar, mozzarella and Swiss with a slice of avocado and tomato — so good I didn’t want the last bite to be over! They have turkey and roast beef as well and fresh soup made in house daily!

Had a fantastic grilled cheese here, loaded with carne asada and all kinds of other delicious goodness. Without having tried a few more things on the menu, I can’t give it a true 5-star, but the owner was friendly and it certainly hit the spot.

This place makes a mean grilled cheese! You can get the tried and true classic grilled cheese or mix it up with some different ingredients! The carne asada/guacamole grilled cheese is a unique combination that’ll make your tastebuds feel like Jackie Chan in a hardware store! Simply amazing! Also the guy that does all the grilling is super nice and provides amazing customer service!

This place is awesome! Stopped here after doing some shopping and got the grilled cheese with carne asada, guacamole, and spicy salsa. I was blown away, it was perfectly golden and just down right delicious. Not only was the food great but the staff was super friendly. I ordered a cup of tomato soup to go with my grilled cheese and when my order was ready the gentleman at the counter apologized and said they didn’t quite have a full cup and gave me my money back for the soup. I told him it wasn’t necessary but he insisted. When I sat down to eat my soup it was maybe 2 centimeter from full. Like I said it was not necessary but shows how honest and great the people working there are. I will definitely be going back!

The best grilled-cheese sandwich I’ve had in ages. The bread was fresh and crispy where cooked. OK, maybe it was because I got the bacon-avocado-cheddar grilled cheese sandwich that it was so fabulous, but there was no skimping on the avocado and the ingredients together made my taste buds very, very happy.(Yes, I had to wait about 12 minutes, but it was worth the wait.)

Get the Carne Asada grilled cheese with the tomato soup. Came to Portland on a whim for a weekend trip. Was really wanting something warm. Asked the chef what I should get and he pointed to the Carne Asada grilled cheese. I was a little skeptical because I am from LA and went to law school in San Diego, so my taste buds are spoiled with good Mexican food. Thankfully, the chef is from San Diego! So it’s legit! And damn it was good. Went to pok pok, mothers café, tasty’n’alder, and a few other good trucks and I will have to say bread and broth was the best meal we had in Portland that weekend.

This food cart rocks and is well worth the wait. Luckily while wondering through downtown this guy was open on Sunday. Everything of course is made to order so be prepared to wait a few… and yes, there will most likely be a line. The grilled sammys are super delicious. At around $ 6 each it’s not a bad deal because you’ll definitely be full. My order of the carne asada sandwich that came with queso fresco, guac, spicy sauce, etc. all on a grilled piece of buttery sourdough was flippin delicious. Gooey, melty, cheesy, oh man… I ate half and was full. The spicy dipping sauce was kinda like salsa and wish it had been a bit more spicy. Also tried a bite of the roast beef that came with grilled onions and cheddar. That will be a must have for next time. Super savory and filling. Healthy? Not exactly, but that wasn’t what I was going for. Bread & Broth has a great selection of both meat and veggie sandwiches whether you want them grilled or cold. They also do a couple scratch made soups. I was super sad however when the gentleman noted that he was out of tomato soup and it would be quite some time before the next batch was ready. Nooooooo! Oh well. There will certainly be a next time. Best of all, they use Square so you don’t have to worry about cash!

I first heard about this cart a few months ago through Food Carts Portland. It didn’t take long for my eyes to dart to the grilled cheese options on the menu. While you can get the standard grilled cheese here, there are a few more unique options. The curious panda in me tried a unique grilled cheese, probably Mexican inspired: carne asada, oaxacan cheese, queso fresco, guacamole, and a «spicy» dipping salsa. Yeah, I put«spicy» in quotation marks because it’ll generally be mild on my forever-broken spice meter. The bread was a perfect grilled golden brown, a harmonious slight crunch in each bite. Juicy and tender carne asada, creamy guacamole. Let’s not forget the gooey, stringy melted cheese. Everything seasoned well and wonderfully balanced. The dipping sauce was wonderful, probably tomato-based, and will probably have just the slightest kick. As expected, my palate largely ignored the mild heat. While waiting for my food, a steady line formed. One guy in the cart there to take orders and cook all the orders as they come in. A tall task for many people. I think the line stayed that way because people didn’t realize you pay when you get your food, as opposed to paying right after ordering. Yup, I was in the same boat. It also might help to have a more seasoned cook just take a number of orders, line them up, and cook up multiple orders at once. Regular sandwiches are all $ 6 and contain a vegetarian option. Soup is $ 3 for a cup. But at the end of the day, I’m not sure how I can pass up all the grilled cheese options. I mean, they even have bacon, avocado, and cheddar. Bacon! Great food here, but I might hesitate on stopping by during a peak lunch rush if I’m even remotely strapped for time.

Most delicious grilled brie/turkey/pesto sandwich EVER. And the man running it(so sorry I didn’t catch his name!) was sooooo amazing and polite and fun to talk to. If I were nearby, I’d be a regular, truly fantastic!

This is right across from my office and I have eaten here probably 4 – 5 times so far. I am absolutely addicted to the Roasted Tomato soup :-) Today I went for a late lunch and he was out of the tomato so I tried the kale and veggie… no surprise, it was delicious! I have tried both hot and cold sandwiches and they are always awesome. The owner/cook is very nice and always happy to let you taste a soup before committing. It does seem to take a smidge longer than some other carts, but it is absolutely worth it! Bonus… he takes cards :-)

I never imagined a grilled cheese food truck in Portland but it exists! They make all types of grilled cheese sandwiches but my bf and I shared the one with chorizo sausage, Oaxacan cheese and avocado. Omg it was literally a party in my mouth. The bread was perfectly grilled, and the flavor of the chorizo sausage complemented very well with the cheese and avocado for a savory experience. I was pleasantly surprised. We also shared their famous tomato bisque soup. The soup had a nice flavor but could be richer, but I thought it still paired nicely with the grilled cheese sandwich. For all that we only paid $ 8 and it was totally worth it. This is one of my favorite food trucks in Portland!

Will I ever get sick of grilled cheese? I don’t think so. It might be tough to break into the food cart grilled cheese market with the likes of Grilled Cheese Grill in town… even in the same pod on 10th& Alder! Their menu is simple and delicious! But the thing that makes me come back to them is their roasted tomato soup. Pure perfection.

Back when I was a kid, my grandma used to describe cold blustery weather as «Soup Weather» It will come as a surprise to no one that we get ‘Soup Weather” an awful lot downtown. What did come as a surprise was discovering that there was someone downtown who makes soup as good as BOTH of my grandmas. I’ve hit this place a few times now, and everything I’ve tried from the Roasted Veggie with Kale, Pozole Verde with tofu, and of course the classic Tomato soup have all been awesome. Highly recommended on any day that it’s «Soup Weather», grandma doesn’t feel like cookin’, or you’re just in the mood for a good homemade bowl o’ soup.

Came here after a long afternoon of walking through downtown Portland looking for some sustenance! The gentleman was very nice and gave me his recommendations — he even let me try both of his soups, which were delicious and I ended up ordering the tomato soup with a turkey sandwich. He was liberal with the avocado(yum!) and the soup was really delish. Overall, I don’t think it compares with some of my favorite places like the Portland Soup Co. in terms of flavor profile — this place is straight forward and I didn’t have any surprises. But definitely not bad! They just opened up a few weeks ago right on the pod on 10th with all the other food cards. Happy souping!
