The customer service and handcrafted hats are the best in Portland. I’ve purchased 2 mens and two woman’s hats only to receive confidence building comments everytime I wear mine. Bonus… being greeted by Thurman when I walk in, he melts my heart.

It’s quite small, as most hat boutiques are. They have quite a lovely selection, though, from wide-​brims, to fancy millinery. Prices are reasonable, especially if you happen upon their sale table!

I received a beautiful Spring hat as a gift from a good friend this past week from Bonnet! The quality and clever custom design of this gem is amazing. I covet most of the inventory here so it is hard to not want to leave with out something in hand. Lucky for us the price range is broad enough to satisfy most budgets. Thank you for such a well thought out, and beautiful selection of hats and accessories!
I should also add that I appreciate that this shop is local, with most of the hats designed and created onsite.

The wife recently bought a hat for a party. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we couldn’t attend the event. Returned less than 24 hours later to return the hat with receipt and hat still in bag.
But, no returns. Ever. Not even with a receipt. Not even with a good excuse and a smile. Just the silly response «it is our policy not to accept returns».
Frankly with Goorin Brothers just up the street on 23^rd with a bigger selection, more reasonable prices and a customer centric attitude, looks like it won’t just be the hat that doesn’t return.
Pure silliness — I hope the owner wakes up.

To start off with, I need to tell everyone, this is NOT my 1^st time to buy hats. I’ve worn hats since the 70’s, owned 2 wide brim hats one in beige and one in burgundy Made in the USA for 4 years. It was my trademark. I own 2 dozen baseball hats, and about 15 other hats, made of wool, velour, leather, straw, etc. I know quality when I see one. All of them, nothing to complain about, including the handcrafted hat I bought from Ireland!
It could take me 20– 45mins., to find JUST THE PERFECT hat to buy, and for the price they’re selling their hats, they better be better quality than Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Nordstrom’s, or Macy’s or the wool hat I bought from Ireland. (I’ve already said that!) When they’re on sale, you could find good quality hats, and that’s WHEN I prefer to shop, sometimes that perfect hat, color, style & price is staring right @ you, and you’ll know when you come face to face with one! These were handcrafted hats. Yes, I’m pretty good @ spotting that, too, since I am a vendor myself, doing only quality products by hand, a perfectionist! I was there about 20 mins.
Yes, I agreed with the reviewers, they greeted you with a smile. Two ladies working there @ that time. Two different types of personalities — but one seems to ‘try to understand’ their customers better by asking questions, but with short memory. Example, she showed me a knit hat, I told her: «I can’t wear knits, they’re static to my hair (blah, blah.…» A few minutes later she showed me another knit hat, different color. I told her: «remember? I can’t wear knit hats. I like to tuck in my hair sometimes, they get bumpy on the back?» She was soft and nervous — she’s just a college student, and getting minimum wage.. . I forgive her, I get nervous too, when my customers have been in my ‘shop’ for too long, and more are coming in and I can’t serve them. .. they have questions. .. but I’m older now, too, so I’m more relaxed now! LOL The 1^st lady, who was helping (me?) there were other customers, went away, but I was the only one STILL shopping…so the other girl was left to tend for me. Finally, I couldn’t find a hat, I almost bought an umbrella (Gift Certificate from 10 months ago– waiting for the Year-​End Sale I NEEDED to use that today!) when hubby decided to pick a hat — that looks like Hitler! No way, Jose! So, I looked around again. .. and all the hats I wanted didn’t look well on me. I had on my hair down, today, but I told her: «this is the 1^st time my hair had been down since 2000, and I usually put my hair up or braided to the side, etc.…» another reason why I’m so difficult finding just the PERFECT hat! I didn’t want to repeat the same color I bought for $ 30 from San Diego Hat Co. that I had so many compliments on. It was almost the same hat Steven Tyler happened to be wearing the same times I was wearing mine from American Idol. I think he copied me! ;) He had feathers on, I had my trademark flowers on mine. (I didn’t see hats with feathers here!)
So, how have I managed to have so many hats @ home, when it’s taking me forever to find one in this cute little boutique? Beats me! BUT, I finally found just the right color, AND style. .. OK, I’ll take this one!
(They weren’t having a year-​end sale, just the hats outside). They are well stocked!
When I took it out of the car, I started finding some ‘flaws’. My $ 54 hat had flaws? But this is handcrafted by people in Portland. The person who made this hat, was ‘not a perfectionist — like me!’ Sorry, I’m being honest, here that’s why I do these reviews, folks! Usually, you wear your underwear with the labels on the back. The hats, should have the labels on the back, too, right? Well, if I was making hats, that’s where I’d stick the labels so the wearer can tell which is the sides, fronts & backs! The sweatband or ribbon band was folded up to the back too far (or was it the front?), so the people on my back aren’t staring @ the ‘flawed band! So, I have to take all the tucks out, refold the 2 ribbons (one black & one beige with black polka dots), then re-​sew the label to the back (seam) which took me a total of 1 ½hr. to accomplish. The hat holder also made a ‘warp dent’ on my cap. But never mind about that, it’s more decent now!
Too bad, there’s no ‘before’ & ‘after’ photo, I wasn’t sure I’d be putting so much effort in PERFECTING an UN-​PERFECT $ 54 hat! I’m still happy with the hat, and I want to thank the giver of the certificate! I now have a hat, I can proudly wear!
I’ll update, when I can count how many compliments I have on my hat!
Would I recommend? I usually tell people: «Buy local. .. support people who make handcraft products like Bazaars & street fairs, but remember, it takes one to know one, IF YOU KNOW what quality is all about!
MAYBE, I’ll buy hubby that hat for his birthday! The reason why I’m changing my mind — I wore one of those ‘Hitler’ hats during my 1^st beach trip in the 70’s!!!

Stopped in with a photo of a hat I liked. The salesperson directed me to the style I was looking for and helped me find one with a small size to fit my head! Great experience, nice selection and very happy with my new hat! Love this shop!

I just had 2 hats custom made, and they are superb. I have received so many compliments.. They aim to please. I am a hat person and will return many times. By the way, the hats are well priced.

This is what a small hat store should be. I walked into the store and the young lady working at the time was very helpful in helping me find the right hat. The selection is good and noticed the selection of hats are of high quality. Prices are good for what you are getting and I can’t emphasize on the excellent customer service.

This quaint shop is oh-​so-​lovely. Every time I walk in I am pleasantly greeted by the sweet women and handsome Golden Retriever that reside here. The hat display is always just enough and not overbearing and the staff are always very helpful. I’m the type of person that needs someone to put a hat on my head and move it around a bit until it feels just right… and they are totally fine with doing this for me! They also have a lovely little taste of extras to enjoy — marvelous hand made pins, warm scarves and mittens, creative head bands, local jewelry etc.
Whenever I’m in the area I make sure to stop by and visit. You should do the same :)

This place is a great fine if you are looking for an everyday hat! There is certainly quite a selection for both men and women. However, if you are looking for something that’s a little more on the dressy side this might not be your hat store. As previous Unilocalers have said, the prices are truly affordable. We walked away with a cute little black hat with a red polka dot ribbon ($ 16) for my aunt. Can’t say I agree with the complaints about service, during out hat shopping spree the woman helping us was friendly but not over bearing. She gave us help when asked but did not come across pushy as stated in reviews below. The only thing than prevents me for giving Bonnet a 5 Star review is that i just didn’t feel they had the selection for dressy occasions. However, it’s a fun little boutique and I’ll definitely be back!

This is a Hat shop for everyone! Real hats, that you can wear any time. They have both men’s and women’s hats.
I thought the prices were very good considering the quality. I didn’t see anything over $ 45, and I’ve been pricing hats lately since I’m in need of a new one for summer adventures.

I’ve had spectacular, very personalized and dedicated service from the owner and staff of this shop for years. They work hard to learn your style and once they get it, they then focus on helping you find precisely what you’re looking for. I get winter hats here, summer hats, hats for any weather. Think you aren’t into hats or don’t look good in them? Give Bonnet a try. You may be more dapper, cozy, well put together than you could’ve imagined.

Hats Galore! They have a selection for women and men. These hats are cool and stylish. They are more on the expensive side, but many are made by local designers so its nice to support our local talent! While the hats are pricey its not NY or LA pricey. Plus they have some diamonds in the rough where you can find a good deal amongst the lot. Its a great store, even if you don’t want to buy one, go in and check yourself in the mirror. The staff was friendly and were eager to assist in helping find a hat that fits, your head and your personality.

I bought a really sweet soft brown knitted beret here several months ago, and I don’t wear it nearly as often as I should. Quirky selection and helpful staff.

Look, I already catch enough crap for living in the Pearl myself. And as such, I’m the first to throw up my palms in protest to defend the ‘hood, saying there are decent, non-​snobby places to nab a meal or shop here.

I went in there with my admittedly ginormous head, and tried to buy a hat. You would not believe the snobbishness of the clerk! It was like I was personally offending the shopkeeper for having the audacity to pick up the hats. I seemed to make it worse by daring to gently re-​fold and replace them, rather than throw them down or something. Her tsking, sighing, scolding, and general adolescent eye-​rolling attitude made me walk right out. Sans hat.
Apparently I missed the memo about this hat location being less of a store, and more of a hat-​themed art installation. Mea culpa, but there were no velvet museum ropes to guide me.
It’s all so frustrating, because those were some fabulous hats! Hence the two star minimum. My hands are tied.
Want to hear the irony? With my melon-​like head, I will throw down serious coin when a proper hat does cross my path. Or even when a proper hat is tossed deliberately into my path. Hell, just point at it from across the room and I pull out my wallet! I’m such an easy sell – WTF?
I didn’t want to say this within earshot of those lovely hats, but now that they can’t hear me… BAD BONNET!
I hear an «I told you so» about the Pearl neighborhood coming on right about now. Sigh.

Always on the search for a good hat and having had bad luck at another local hat shop… this place filled the need PERFECTLY. I called ahead of time to check hours and availability. I have a large head and picky tastes, yeah, I’ll admit it. Regardless, the incredibly lovely lady at the shop had several in mind when I arrived. It took her almost 5 mins to find me a splendid hat. I will return, as often as my hat needs require. Highly recommended.
