BellPort Property Management

I have been renting a house for seven months that was then sold, without my knowledge, only to be «maintained» by BellPort Property Management.
I use the word «maintain» loosley. In the three months that the building has been under the management of BellPort Property Management, there has been one disaster after the next. I had asked several times for repairs, that just never happened. The basement door of the house, which is not in a great neighborhood, does not lock, never has, it’s a rusty padlock, hanging on for dear life to a rotted out piece of plywood (which is a stand-​in for a door)…that likely hasn’t worked in a decade. Additionally, a window in my kitchen does not close, much less lock. Safety issues? Yes. BellPort didn’t even respond to my email requests for repairs for two weeks, and only after I stopped paying rent.
Rent is another issue. The building was sold, to some unknown LLC, without an address (other than BellPort Property’s address on Washington Ave.), and for some reason, nobody has any idea where my receipt for my security deposit and last month’s rent is, I was told it was assigned to the new phantom owner, but nobody can provide proof of this to me. Well, the first four times I asked, they were «looking into it» and «getting it from the new (ghostly) owner». I was only told yesterday that my attorney would have to find it. Because he magically has this information?
Additionally, when BellPort came in to attempt to repair the kitchen window (which never got fixed), they rummaged through my home, every room, as witnessed by my security system.
Not to mention, I rented the house in the first place because it was dog friendly. Imagine my surprise when I arrived home on December 1, 2015 to find that they sold and fenced off the ENTIRE back yard. Again, without notice.
Save yourself a headache, frustration, time and money. Setting up a tent in the middle of Deering Park is a better alternative than renting from BellPort.
