I love the deli here, and specifically the shawarma. It is mouth-wateringly delicious, oozing with complex flavors, juicy lamb, and lots of sauce. And the price is great for what you get. I’ll definitely keep coming back!

Ridiculous to give this place stars off of one thing on the menu, but it totally earns it. The chicken shawarma sandwiches much deserves five stars on its own. Everytime I eat this, I can guarantee you that I will be rocking the sauce all over my shirt all day(don’t worry, it will wash out so you don’t completely ruin a nice shirt). The chicken is super juicy! Just writing this review is making me so hungry right now. The deli is my favorite part. Theres a large array of good looking and tasting food. There is a large selection of cheeses. The place offers a large variety of things that you don’t typically find in your local markets.

I live right by Barbur Foods and so have spent waaaay too much time shopping here just because it was the only thing around. They have all kinds of specialty items, which is fine except that when you have that many obscure items, they don’t really fly off the shelf. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve purchased, or almost purchased very old, expired products. They are not a huge corporation which everyone loves, but at least corporations are more efficient with their quality control. The Deli food is pretty good, but it is always hectic at the counter and it takes forever to get served. I’ve worked in a grocery store deli before and it is really not that difficult-even when it’s busy-to have some sort of organization and decent customer service. I only buy fresh produce for the most part, but even that can be questionable. The beer selection is good, but once again, when you have a lot of funky items, not all of them are going to sell very quickly, and you end up wondering if the beer is going to be good or old and rancid.

I’ve been coming here for a long time. It’s a good place to get a lot of hard to find things. Really though I often come for the ready to eat items. I sometimes come here to get things to go. Sometimes I come here to get things to take with me. I really like some of the Pizza options. My favorite is based on what tastes like the pita bread with cheese and herbs on it… Delicious. The deli section is amazing with great middle eastern foods, including fresh baked pitas, amazing baklava… Oh, if you are into beer head to the back, there is a door to a whole chilly room of beers… Tip: this place specializes in Mediterranean foods, but they also cary some random European foods, regular groceries and a great produce section.

I have the benefit of being able to walk here in five minutes. I used to come just for the deli and random foreign delights, but it has now become my go-to grocery store. The quality they offer on produce, dairy(Garry’s Milk in the glass bottles is what all milk should taste like), meat, and bulk foods is amazing. I don’t miss Fred one bit and only have to go to Winco occasionally(like once every three months). The only complaint I have is the deli sometimes gets lax on the quality for the«sandwich» orders(huge soft pita wraps that are delicious when done right), but everything else(the cheese monger is exceptionally helpful and attentive!) more than makes up for those little hiccups. Best grocery store I’ve ever had the pleasure of frequenting and I’ve been to them all. I hope they never move because is a definite perk of living in the area. It’s an international-food-loving home cook’s dream. I love that I can wake up and put all the ingredients for a proper British fry-up in my basket along side the necessities for Thai curry for lunch and lamb kebabs for dinner. Their soda wall and beer cave are amazing as well.

Not only do they have great food, but as a family we always have fun discovering new foods and brands from around the world to add to our pantry! The hot and cold deli selection also make for an easy dinner option after a long day at work.

The store Barbur World Foods is exceptional. It truly serves food from all over the globe. There are both aisles and deli counters alike. Some are packaged and some are made by them. A place to sit is at the front. It was fun to go here. I loved browsing around in such a short time. Their freezer selections included plenty of food not offered by Fred Meyer in frozen form. What I had was a spanikopita for two dollars. It was rich and well versed. The savants of food among us ought to visit this place.

Hummus, baba ganoush, pita. Those three things alone make with worth the trip. So delicious. Other than that, it’s just a market. Low lit, stark interior, with a modest but interesting produce selection and a variety of international foods. I love to stop here whenever I can.

It’s a great little grocery store and they have a wonderful deli, except for one major complaint, which results in 3 stars. I like the lamb shawarma — not the sandwich but«from the grill.» Most times I walk out of there and no pita. One time it was executed properly and it was delicious fresh from the oven! The first time there was no pita at all. This time I asked«where is the pita» and my response was that they forgot to make it and it would take an additional 5 minutes? I just waited there for 5 minutes! Don’t you have any already-prepared pitas? This is an operational flaw which I may not come back for the grill/deli again. But the food is fantastic. Bring your own pita.

Their fresh made pitas and hummus are amazing. The deli in general is amazing. The parking lot can be insane, I go at off hours if I can help it

I walked in the store with a coffee in hand(from another store). Scooped my items to purchase, tossed my coffee in the trash, then went to check out. As I was checking out this ugmug approached me. The cashier asked«will that be all?» Before I could say yes this guy got in the mix and said«he also had a coffee, charge him for that too.» The guy definitely worked there. I said it was a coffee I brought into the store and he gave me a look but then let me go. Either way it was real slum of heem to puff his chest out and confront a customer without knowing. He was very accusatory, and I feel like he picked me out cause I am dark skinned. Later the same guy came out and got an attitude with us for eating food(that we had just bought from the store) out front on the floor. The tables were all occupied! This guy was either having a bad day or simply a nasty character. Huge turn off. Also their kombucha selection is subpar. And the one I bought(which ended up being 5 whole dollars) exploded on me… Haha

This place has an amazing Middle Eastern deli! So many great take away foods including a good selection of roasted meats, salads, soups, vegetables, dips, spreads and made to order pizzas. The tabbouleh, lamb meatballs and pomegranate roasted carrots were particularly delicious! A great selection of reasonably priced beer and wine make this the perfect one-stop shop for a no-cook dinner. Check out the great cheese fridge near the front of the store and talk to the«cheese guy» who stocks it — boy, does he know his cheeses and he is very nice and helpful.

Thanks, Unilocal, for leading me here. It looks dubious from the street, but I’m so glad I checked it out. We came here to build an impromptu picnic; we scored. Butternut hummus – fantastic and perfect dipping sauce for the jicama sticks – my son’s new favorite veggie – and the roasted veggies I picked up in the deli section. The roasted red pepper hummus was also delicious, as was the garlicky, creamy baba ghanoush. We also picked up ½ roasted chicken to go with the veggies. It was tender and lightly seasoned with the smoky, slightly salty, crisped skinned treatment that I fall for every time. To drink, I picked up a spirited carrot, ginger, apple concoction. Perfect. We’ll be back for specialty items I don’t make or can’t find in our regular stores.

Visited this market after searching for a good middle eastern market. I ordered the roasted lamb sandwich which left my taste buds unsatisfied but my stomach full. The roasted lamb was tender and not gamy. I felt as though the roasted lamb was under seasoned. A little bland. The sandwich had a very generous serving of feta cheese, Possibly too generous. The pita bread was soggy and was falling apart. Overall experience of the roasted lamb sandwich Was mediocre, priced accordingly. I wanted to order a kabob plate but the gentlemen at the counter informed me that it would take 30−45minutes for the meat to cook. When I asked why I would take so long he said it was because the meat is raw and fresh. In all my experience eating kabob I’ve never heard it taking up to 45 minutes to grill. Unless of course they were using a slow cooker or smoker grill? This left me disappointed . Overall this market had your basic needs for Mediterranean foods. I am not too familiar with food costs here in Oregon but most food items were double if not triple the price compared to Southern California.

Unlike many health foods and ethnic foods stores, this emporium-like store has lots of everyday, sundries in addition to exotic goods. Speaking of exotic goods, I was blown away by their selection of dolmas, both in the can and by hand in the deli case. I have looked for these at Trader Joe’s, which hasn’t been able to stock them at all in the past six months it seems. Here, you can sample six different varieties in the can. The deli dolmas and cabbage rolls were top-notch. They melt in your mouth like chocolate. Here you can also drool over every variety of fresh lamb you can imagine, including 4 or 5 types of pre-marinated kabobs, including leg of lamb and stew meat. In addition to the savories, they have every kind of baklava, figs, dates, exotic spiced and salted nuts and seeds. If it wasn’t so far away, I’d be back there tomorrow.

Who knew that Barbur World Foods was hiding in plain site as a «gourmet» grocery store near this busy intersection of Barbur and SW Capital Highway. I was there for beer and what a selection! While I was there, I stopped at the butcher counter, marvelled over the produce selection, inspected the Middle East/Eastern Europe selections, and enjoyed a little wine thanks to a free tasting. Barbur World Foods isn’t really a big place, and I found navigating the aisles with others a little difficult. Store staff was super friendly and helpful. If I lived here in PDX, this place would be near the top of my regular grocery shopping list.

I love this place! They not only have a fully stocked store which for it’s small size carries an amazing amount of produce and other goods, much of it organic even, but they also have some of the best middle eastern/mediterranean food I have had the pleasure of eating which they sell togo from their deli. The spinach and cheese pies were my fav and for meat the beef kabobs were excellent! They have all sort of goodies like Armenian string cheese and other fun exotics that I love. For the adventurous check the special freezer with game meats and even really wild stuff like kangaroo and python. They take a lot of care in everything here, hell they even fresh bake your pita bread in the fire oven right in front of you, it’s tasty and awesome, go now!
