Nothing particularly special… which is why I like this place. It’s a 24-hour diner, serving exactly the sort of food you expect. The burgers are decent, and the breakfast items are excellent, particularly the stuffed hashbrowns. They have a very modest selection of beer and wine… but one does not go to Banning’s to drink. One goes to Banning’s AFTER a night of drinking. Many a great night has been capped off with a slice of pie and a cup of tea or decaf. Speaking of pie… Banning’s pies are excellent. I’m fond of the pecan and the Mudd pies, but both of the apple pies are excellent as well. The service is prompt and efficient. I just wish that they could liven the apace up a bit, as the interior is borderline depressing. Still, If one is in the metro area and considering a late night meal/nosh/pie, Banning’s deserves their consideration.

The Salmon was incredible! The Country Fried Steak was exceptional The desserts are legendary BUT, it’s a major faux pas to serve the appetizer at the same time as the dinner entrée’s We’ll be back!

This was a small out of the way place my friend and I found when looking for breakfast during out trip to Portland. I’m glad we stopped. The food was amazing and the wait staff was so friendly. Not fancy, but perfect for that morning pick-me-up before you start your day!

Terrible to drive by a place for years and never stop… so we decided to go out of our way one morning and give Banning’s a try. The interior is nothing fancy reminding me of when I was a kid some 40 years ago at some diner. Could use a remodel. We were greeted right away and taken to our table and within a short time our server came asking if we would like coffee. Our server starting talking to tourist at the table behind me. Even though she had many tables, she gave them some tips on Portland and surrounding area attractions and correcting them on the pronunciation of The Willamette River. Yeah, it’s not Willa mente. There is no ‘n’. I just laughed. Without skipping a beat she was back to grabbing orders and serving other tables again. My husband ordered the Country Fried Steak and Eggs. Dreading his decision because of other establishments poor quality of tasteless cardboard like patty hidden under some gravy. He couldn’t of been more wrong here. He absolutely enjoyed every bite and said it was the best he ever had. As I like to compare the same dish at new restaurants, I ordered the Eggs Benny with cottage cheese on the side. It was also very good but a typical Eggs Benny. Since we enjoyed our breakfast we came again just a few days later. Getting there at 9:30, Sunday, the parking lot full, I thought we would have to wait. Lucked out, got seated right away. By the time we finished breakfast a few families had been waiting. Come early if you can. This time I wanted just one Eggs Benny and French Toast. Thick slice French Toast was good. Nothing Special. Came with warm Syrup. I wish I would of ordered, or we could of split husband’s breakfast. The Fried Chicken, biscuits, and eggs. I could barely see him over the large, no huge, portions of chicken. They were obviously hand breaded like the Fried Steak. Tender and juicy and not processed something that came from a box or frozen bag. Driving 15 miles, 30 mile round trip had been worth it again for the second time. To sum up our experiences for two visits… awesome service and food. See you again soon.

Reasonably good diner food, a big menu, and breakfast served all day. I had spinach benedict, and it was tasty. I also shared a slice of pumpkin cheesecake with my partner and it was also good.

There are two Banning’s, in the same address with 151 reviews. Hmmmm I wasn’t sure which one to pick. I picked the top one to review, I’m PRETTYSURE, they’re the same restaurant, but are the reviewers DOUBLEPOSTING? I won’t! The service was good, the food was good. The waiter was prompt, respectful, and polite. My husband ordered the Open face Hot Roasted Turkey sandwich. He said it reminds him when he was traveling with his grandparents. I’m having Vegetarian Sandwich with a side of cottage cheese, which reminds me of my dad. It was a feast!

I give Banning’s Restaurant & Pie House a super 5 star! Our waitress Kristen which is by the way the manager! Can you believe that? When was the last time you went to a restaurant and had the manager wait on you? Me never until now. Well first off the restaurant is well lighted, the floors are clean, the counters are spotless. There is plenty of seating and they also hsve child seats. I love the team work that I see with the staff. This is a very healthy environment for the family! They have a full menu from Chicken fried steaks to breakfast to smoked salmon pasta. There was no waiting and the cooks are amazing! I didn’t hear one argument yelling crying shouting or complaining. Kevin the amazing waiter is awesome. Very friendly he was my million dollar man! He looks like Mark Walberg. I highly recommend this restaurant! One more thing this restaurant is 24 hours!

Very good food and a family-friendly atmosphere. The food is fresher, less«corporate» than Shari’s and they have mimosas. The price of a whole pie(or cheesecake) is a bit extensive.

I’m only giving this place two stars because the food was DECENT, but not great. the host seemed hurried and rushed to seat us although the place was empty. our server was a blonde girl, probably about 20, who seemed nice. I ordered the mozzarella sticks(which tasted like microwave made ones) and the taco salad with no beans. she delivered our food just to come back a minute later and say the cook made it wrong and with beans, and then continued to stand there and stare at me. she asked«do you still want it?» and j said«yes, but without beans, as I had ordered» and she says«well, are you ALLERGIC?» as if it matters why I didn’t want the beans in my salad. the chicken in the salad was dry, the lettuce was soggy, and it was overall not satisfying and the servers attitude about my beans was just icing on the cake.

I have to amend the previous 5 star review as a result of our last visit, two weeks ago. We went in with my sister-in-law and while they got mine and my wife’s orders just right, my sister-law’s was botched. Her hash browns were burnt as was her bacon. The only reason she didn’t send it back was because our server was inattentive and rarely checked back. It was simply a bad meal and the first I ever recall seeing at Banning’s. They are typically terrific but sadly fell short in both service and prep this time. I still recommend Banning’s and will be going back as I view this as an isolated incident.

I visit this place twice a month with my son for breakfast. He loves the friendly staff. They have ample seating indoors and out doors. The portions are large bring your appetite. Family friendly.

The service was excellent, they were fast and helpful and SUPER friendly! I ordered 1 slice of lemon meringue pie(my fav), but I can’t say this was my favorite piece of this kind of pie. Also the price was a bit steep, $ 5 for 1 slice.

I went to visit this restaurant today with my sister and my mom, along with a few of my moms friends. It was Thursday around 12, so it wasn’t too busy but it was around lunch time. It took about 20 minutes for us to be seated, even though there were 4 waiters/waitresses standing around in the kitchen. And I could spot out at least 6 – 7 open tables and booths from where I was standing at the restaurant. But eventually, we got seated. Now, to the food. The food was your typical American diner food(Denney’s, Shari’s, etc…), but the prices were very high for the average food quality. The portions are big, but the food ain’t that great. They serve breakfast all day and the service is great. Expect to be paying $ 10-$ 15 per meal. For my mom, my sister and I, it was $ 50. Outrageous. I got the bacon cheeseburger with French fries, my sister got the chicken Caesar salad, and my mom got the bacon mac’ n’ cheese. The food was ok, but I won’t be going back anytime soon.

When you just come home from a road trip at 4am and have a hankering for chicken fried steak? Bannings is open. When you are the DD for a crazy night out and you want something better than Taco Bell? Bannings is open. When you sleep in on a weekend and realize that breakfast and brunch places are already closed? Bannings is open. It’s this amazing feeling knowing that Banning is always open(24 hours except on Christmas Day). It’s like that good friend that never talks back when you complain, is always there, and never asks for anything in return. We first started going there for their giant portions, but we stuck with it because of their super nice people, crazy fast service, and comforting homemade food. We’ve tried plenty of things on their menu and it is solid homestyle goodness. We always get a couple of pie slices to go too. Usually the cherry & banana cream. Both awesome.

A good place for a meal any time of day or night. The staff has always been kind and courteous, even if you are there at 1am and someone is vacuuming.(it has to be done at some time) the food is pretty good and the pies are ok. I wouldn’t say anything I’ve had was amazing, but the convenience factor of a 24 hour place that is always welcoming and clean, deserves four stars.

Came in for the first time yesterday. Not too bad of a wait for a Sunday morning. Maybe 5 minutes. I ordered the stuffed hash browns. Wasn’t too hungry so when they say the plate in front of me I was overwhelmed. Huge portion. But it was so delicious I ended up in a food coma because I ate almost the entire thing! My daughter ordered the French toast(kids menu) and it was really good quality for a kids dish. Will definitely be coming back soon, and again and again! The service was spot on as well! With two kids under 8 they were very accommodating to random and repeated refills and needs.

3.5 Funny how you think when you divorce someone you imagine not seeing them so much. Things keep happening that lead to me having breakfast with the ex. Today the sick cat had to go to the vet(she is 19 and really my mom’s cat since I pawned her off on her when I moved to Oregon but shes currently living with my ex… because of her attachment to his cats, who sweetly keep her company and groom her). We also had some finance and kid business to discuss. Ugh. Might as well eat breakfast. Bannings is neutral turf as we havent been here before. There was no wait and since its nice out today we sat outside. A little noisy from the 99 but not too bad. Umbrella tables and heaters made it pleasant. My breakfast was good. Biscuits, turkey sausage patties(3, I left one behind just a touch too much food), over easy eggs and hash browns. Mediocre coffee.(sour) Everything was cooked correctly if a tad salty. Ex had a southwest skillet with overeasy eggs and toast. Lots of olives, peppers, ham and bacon bits, and red potatoes. Said it was fine but likely Sysco generated ingredients. We are spoiled somewhat with our farm to table attitude and CSA lifestyle. But he said its a 4 because of Tigard(context) and our server was excellent(on it with water, coffee, and our ticket). We did not get pie. It did look good. This was a mostly successful breakfast outing. P. S. they have mimosas.
