Very clean, organized little shop with a friendly owner who kindly put up with my questions as I prepared to cook Ethiopian food for the first time. I can’t attest to the prices as I have not compared them to the other shops, but the quality of ingredients I bought appeared to be high. The berbere proved very tasty in my dishes. I will be back!

A nice little store to get what you need to start cooking Ethiopian food. The woman behind the counter was very friendly. She helped me find everything I needed and gave me advice on making my own injira.

I came in feeling unsure of myself – I want to learn to cook Ethiopian food, but at this point I’ve tried nothing and know next to nothing about the culture and cuisine. The woman at the front desk was so gracious and warm hearted – I asked her a question about a spice and she even opened the container to let me smell them and look at them. When I told her I wanted to make injera bread, not only did she give me great advice, she actually gave me her card and told me if I had any questions or difficulties to call her. Swoon.

The woman is so rude, and have no respect for customers, what a picture she is drawing for the Ethiopian community, who otherwise are known to be very friendly and hospitable!

I come here several times a month. The owners are lovely, warm people, they have great green coffee beans, amazing berbere, and a good selection of ethiopian foods, spices, and kitchen items, and cheap prices. It is small and simple, but worth the drive or bike.

I purchased injera and berbere to cook an Ethiopian meal at home. The injera was very fresh and flavorful. The berbere is from Ethiopia and was much more rich and flavorful than a package I purchased from another store. The clerk was very friendly and helpful.

Awash forms part of the Ethiopian triangle with similar market Merkato and the Queen of Sheba restaurant. Awash has Ethiopian ingredients for your own home cooking experiments! They have spices in smaller quantities than Merkato, half pints and pints and fresh injera. On the other hand, their selection of Ethiopian music is much smaller too. They are a good pick up point for fliers in the Ethiopian community. Where else could you find out that tonight an Ethiopian comedian is performing right in Portland or that there is an Ethiopian new year celebration in Seattle September 12? A small selection of Ethiopian handicrafts too.
