Pet City Grooming

I paid $ 50 per dog for a bath, hair trimming, nails, teeth brushing, and ear cleaning. Not an unreasonable price, but it may be on the higher side. Had the trim had been flawless, I wouldn’t consider the price too high, but the person who groomed my dogs CUT OFF THEIR WHISKERS, both on their muzzles and above their eyes.
Any professional groomer should know that the primary function of whiskers is to aid with vision (especially in the dark) by providing additional sensory information — much like antennae on other creatures. Although it’s not true that cutting off a pet’s whiskers will affect balance, it *does* compromise its ability to feel around his/​her face. So unless an owner asks to have a dog’s whiskers removed, the groomer should NEVER do it unilaterally! (And no such request should ever be honored for a cat, since they rely on those whiskers quite a bit more.)
Also, I wasn’t thrilled with the way the groomer picked up and carried my dog under its chest with one arm. My dog is 27 pounds, and putting that much stress on a 11-​year-​old dog’s back could lead to injury. My veterinarian saw me lift my dog up like that years ago, and excoriated me to always lift with one arm under the chest and one behind the back legs under the pelvis.
I like that the holding crates at Pet City Grooming have water bowls in them, and the facility is very clean. Crates and hair cutting stations are both in the front area, so there’s no sense of the business trying to hide anything.
I debated giving a higher rating, but according to Unilocal three stars equals «A-​OK,» which this visit was not. For anyone who tries Pet City Grooming and tells them specifically NOT to cut whiskers and the dogs come back OK, you’ll probably consider this a 4– or 5-​star facility.

I am a Animal Behavior Consultant working in the Los Angeles Area for 15 years. I am thrilled to recommend Jason at Pet City Grooming. I look for gentle kind and knowledgeable groomers, he is one of the best I have found. I went to him after an experience with another groomer which I had used for several years. My small dog came back to me with a large burn on her belly from hot clippers. You could not touch their feet because of nails being cut too short. They developed fear of grooming. After one Grooming with Jason, that all changed. They walked right into the grooming location with tails up and no sign of fear. My criteria is high for any recommendation I make and Jason meets them all. My dogs look great and are happy to see him and his groomers when they go in for their salon treatments. Thank you Jason for your knowledge and skill in making grooming a good experience for all dogs you care fore.

This is the best place near our home that I’ve found. We’ve gone to Petco and a couple other groomers but our dogs always seemed emotionally scarred after leaving the place. Pet City smells nice, looks nice, it’s not noisy like another place we’ve been to. It does take a bit longer to finish the grooming but they do a great job and our dogs seem alright emotionally afterward. Our dogs are: a white poodle/​terrier, a black lab/​pit mix, and now a dachshund. We used to take my mother-in-law’s dog there too when she stayed with us and she’s a German Shepherd/​terrier mix.

April and Dylan did such a great job. My dog is paralyzed in the back and they did such a great job. My other dog usually is scared but she seemed happy. Best place in the valley.
Also my dogs are going to be in my wedding so it shows how much they have gained my trust.

Love this place! Jason always does a great job and really takes his time with our cat. Our cat is a bit hard to handle but he always does and she loves him! So happy we found this place!

We’ve had it with this place. They say they’re open when they’re not, they open½ hour late when they do, they don’t answer voicemail, they schedule grooming for let’s say 8 and keep the dog until 2 – how long can grooming take? They charge extra sometimes without telling you, they’ve forgotten to do things (e.g., clip toenails), and they’ll arbitrarily close early even though posted times say they should be open. Better prices and better groomers elsewhere.

Took my dog in for grooming. The woman shaved my dog!!! Unbelievable. He just needed a bath and brush. She is just LAZY and didn’t want to work. She also made odd remarks about him being from the shelter as if that was a negative thing. I hope they go out of business.

I hardly write bad reviews but this is much needed. I took my dog to get groomed Saturday morning. Since I work all week and can’t take my dog during the week I always schedule him for Saturday morning.
My dog is almost two years old, and he is a Yorkie so yes he is hyper.
However, the lady that helped me at the groomers was complaining to me about how hyper my dog was from the last time I brought him and that they had in the notes «hyper dog». Who tells a dog owner this ?
She then begins to tell me to «next time make an appointment early during the week when it’s slow»
I specifically made it on the weekend because that’s the only time I have to take him since I work full time during the week.
Anyways, I left my dog there to get groomed because I already had it scheduled and needed to get my dog groomed.
First of all they take FOREVER. I dropped my dog off at 10:30 and he wasn’t ready till 3pm. I’ve taken my dog to another groomer and its taken no longer than 2 hours and yes it was on a Saturday.
Anyways, after calling at 2:30 to check on my dog she said another 30 minutes with the tone of how annoyed she was with my dog being difficult.
I showed up at 3 and when she rang me up she was complaining the whole time about how difficult my dog was and i told her since my dog is «so difficult» i just won’t bring my dog here anymore.
THEN she tried to charge me $ 60 bucks because he was so difficult. $ 55 is a lot to begin with and the first time I went that’s what they charged me.
I told her «I thought it was $ 55» and she just said oh well it’s because your dog was so difficult.
I wash my dog every two weeks. He’s not that difficult. If you can’t handle to groom a hyper dog then that’s not my problem.
Although they groom well,
I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK HERE due to horrible customer service.

Did a decent job on my dog’s hair. She was nice and clean once I picked her up. I’ve only dealt with one employee here and she was a bit rude and seemed like she was more interested in clocking out than giving good customer service. She was very rude about the condition of my dog’s hair when I dropped her off (she had a little bit of matting near her tail). I felt as if I needed to apologize for just having given birth to my little boy and not having the time or energy for that matter to brush my pups hair twice a day. Other than awful customer service, the cut was fine and the price is reasonable. Though, I’ve decided not to come here anymore.

On Sunday, I decided that my pup needed to go to the groomers, but the usual suspects I tend to frequent were all booked. So, I found Pet City Grooming on Unilocal and they seemed to be available — so I made an appointment.
I’ll start with the good:
It wasn’t terribly expensive. I got $ 10 off for being a new customer — she gave me the discount without even asking (which was nice, because I didn’t know about it). Everything came out to $ 25. Not a terrible price — but would I pay $ 35 for JUST a bath? Meh… I don’t know. Also, she advised me that Aloe Vera is much better for dogs with dry skin, while oatmeal actually makes skin more dry. Is this true? I have no idea, but it sounded good to me at the time. Lastly, Schroeder the dog came out very clean and fluffy and not overly perfumed. This was good. I hate it when I get my dog back, and he smells like they covered him in doggy cologne. He’s not going to the club, dude.
The bad:
First — the service. When I walked in with the dog, she rolled her eyes and sighed — like, «Goddamnit. I have to do more work???» Seriously? Not a good first impression. Also, after we handed the reins over to her — she said, «Give me about 2 hours, and just so you know, we close at 5 today.» Alright — cool. Good to know. When she called me to come pick him up about an hour and a half later, she says, «Schroeder will be done in about 15 minutes — also we’re closing at 4 today.» Wtf??? This was at 3:30pm. What would have happened if I had thought I had an extra hour and was in Glendale or LA or something like that??? Not acceptable. Second — for a groomer — she doesn’t seem to be too great with dogs; most groomers possess a warmness towards animals that this woman did not have — it’s what makes you feel comfortable leaving your pet with them. I felt a little uneasy leaving him there, to be honest. It was probably the reason why I made sure to stay close by in case anything happened. Lastly, the place smells weird — sour. Don’t get me wrong, the place is clean — it just smells kinda gross; not kick you in the face when you walk through the door gross, but a smell that you don’t necessarily immediately notice, but with each passing minute gets worse.
It was my first time here, so I don’t know if it’s like this all the time… maybe I came in on an off day? But first impressions are important, and mine wasn’t so great… so… I likely won’t return.

I got my little toy Maltese groomed here and asked that they cut her hair short all around. I left her maybe at around 11 am. Shortly after they called me, telling me to pick her up. But they said I had to pick her up immediately within the next 15 minutes because they were going to close soon. What? I was confused but rushed my things and picked up my dog. Apparently they have special hours on Tuesday in which they close at 2 pm. I wish they had told me when I had dropped her off as they knew I was a new customer. But in the end, I didn’t see their business hours which is posted near their door. I just thought it was strange to close so early.
The cut on her body was fine, but I did not care for the cut on her head at all. They left her head fluffy and round, with a shaved body, much like a Pomeranian. It wasn’t what I specified and I didn’t like it. But seeing as they were closing in minutes by the time I got there, I didn’t think there was anything to be done.
Be aware of their business hours as it may rush you to pick up your pup.

I have been taking my 2 goldens here since the first week they opened. I have tried Petco up the street and another groomer in the Whole Foods lot and had not been impressed. In all honesty I only tried Pet City because I had gotten a coupon in he mail. I’m glad I did! They always get my four legged children in when I call and have even come in early once so I could drop off before I had to be at school! They have always gone out of their way to make each experience great. Now that my Bella is 14 years old she can’t get out of the car and the owner will come out, pick her up and carry her in. (She’s 65 lbs!)
You can tell they really love animals and when you’re leaving a member of the family with someone, it’s good to know they will be treated with kindness. When you factor this in, How can you complain about it being a little more expensive than another place? It’s like sending your kid to a cheaper daycare vs the one where they will be well taken care of! I wouldn’t do it to my daughter and I won’t do it to my puppies.

Alright, so here’s a REAL review for you guys. I should have realized that it was kind of fishy that this place was rated… 5 stars by people who reviewed like 1 place. The normal asking price is $ 55, which is a bit excessive for a small grooming shop. They had a $ 10 discount for new customers, so I decided to give them a try. I called at about 3PM, and the lady sounded really rushed. She sounded a bit annoyed and asked if we could bring my dog over right away and so we did.
I asked that they trim his body shorter while leaving his face and tail a little longer. But if I’m paying $ 45, I’d expect that she would cut more than ¼ of an inch. My dog’s nails weren’t cut, and his ear hairs weren’t trimmed either. When I called to make an appointment, she went through a long list of things they do for the dog, which included trimming their inner ear hair. Nope, that was NOT done.
I will admit that my dog is very shy, and he doesn’t like to be separated from me. But when I picked him up, he was still shivering and scared. Whenever I would drop him off at other groomers, by the time I pick him up, he’s warmed up a bit to the groomer. I’m assuming the owner of this place isn’t great with animals.
I don’t suggest that people go here. It’s just way too expensive and not worth it. My parents were furious because they saw no change in my dog’s hair.
**UPDATE**
I just wanted to address the certain someone … **ahem** who so rudely commented on how I was complaining about the cost. As I mentioned before, I wouldn’t mind spending a lot on my dog if they actually did a good job. Trust me when I say that they do NOT appear to love animals. I’m not even sure if this place knows how to handle dogs in general. And as I mentioned before, if they had done a good job, I would’ve been more than happy to pay however much they charge. It’s just not worth the money & I think people should carefully read my post before saying anything…

I brought my labradoodle to this place and she butchered my dogs hair. My dog had beautiful hair and when I picked him up he had barely hair. I was do disappointed with this company. When you take your dog to a groomers they supposed to come out looking great… Oh no not in my case. That will be my first and last time bringing my dog to this groomers… watch out if you want your dog looking great after grooming, don’t bring them in this place.

There is only one place and one person to take your dog to. April at Pet City is amazing! My senior Pomeranian HATES going to the groomer, she is super hard to groom cuz she is a wiggle worm and never sits still. I brought her to April at Pet City and was so impressed by the job she did with her that I will bring her here forever. April handled her like a seasoned professional and did an amazing job! The haircut was beautiful, she smelled delicious, and the best thing about the whole experience was that when I picked her up she was HAPPY! She usually sulks and won’t even look at me during the car ride home but this time she was just a happy little girl :-) I totally recommend April and Pet City!

WOW! Fantastic job Jason! Max my 4 year old cat had never allowed anyone to groom him before. Max absolutely needed the ‘works,’ nails, bath, hair cut, (he had knots and tangles through the back of his hair) Jason was so professional and his genuine kindness and caring for my Max was so impressive.
I especially enjoyed the clean, friendly atmosphere. The staff is amazing. And, the prices are very reasonable. I truly recommend Pet City Grooming to everyone. This was Max’s first time, however, it certainly will not be his last. Thank you Jason and staff for making my Max look SO GOOD!

Professional and clean. Just tried them for the first time and Jason did a fantastic on my poorly matted German Shepherd. He took him in on time. Environment was calm. My dog felt at ease with him. Will definitely come back.

This place is EXCELLENT! Superior customer service! The owner’s wife was so so nice, and the groomer Nicole was completely AMAZING. Nicole knew how to approach my little Maltipoo Sadie, who has issues and was completely sweet with her. Nicole also took the time to really listen to what I wanted and explained what she could do and what would be best. She did an awesome job grooming my little one, and Sadie was so happy when I picked her up! I had been looking for a long time for a good groomer and I finally found my permanent salon for my Sadie! Great, Great, GREAT! Highly recommend!
