I got on the boat, went upstairs to get my ticket and while I was walking through the cabin I stepped in dog shit, which made me slip and fall on my ass. Some little kid started laughing at me and I wanted to slap him.
Burgers taste like ground anus.
Tickets are expensive.
Gets the job done and gets me to CT.

I honestly cannot wait until they build a bridge or tunnel to CT. I take the ferry a lot to go to Vermont during the ski season. $ 72 for me, my wife and a car each way. They are cheap or have unreliable boats, often only running 2 boats. This causes the ferries to become full and booked for hours, and an hour and a half between boats. Concessions aboard are pretty bad, and expensive.
It is nice during the summer to sit up top and check things out, but overall old boring boats that are too expensive with bad scheduling, and the worst website I have ever used for reservations.

If anyone lives in the surrounding towns of Port Jefferson and needs to go to New England? The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry is a no brainer. Why drive on the Long Island Expressway all the way west, loop around thru bridges and traffic just to save a few bucks? Time is money honey!
I’d rather be on the ferry sipping a nice cuppa coffee, smelling the salty air and not seeing any traffic for 90 minutes.
I’ve lived in the Port Jeff area for over 20 years. Do you know what its like to hear the ferry horn blow when it pulls out? Thank God the ferry doesn’t run at midnight.
We’ve used the ferry over the years to see our nieces in camp at the Berkshires as well as going to New England. It’s a convenient way to travel!
Boarding the ferry can be daunting. You have to loop through the town, the entrance is one way. No one wants a traffic jam in town, you’ll have to follow the signs. And don’t be a smarty pants and make a u-​turn! The local police LOVE to give out tickets for that move. Then you’ll be on the ferry all mad.
What I recommend is parking your car and explore the ship. If its a sunny day you can sit up top in the sun and enjoy the Long Island Sound. Or you can sit inside at a table and play cards and relax. Whatever your choice, it’s going to be better than sitting on the cross Bronx expressway.
They serve refreshments on the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry. Do I recommend them? Um. no! You could bring Starbucks on board, a thermos of your own coffee or cans of soda. Anything but those warming pots of coffee.
There are 80s style video games like PacMan onboard. (Don’t think you can beat me, you’ll lose) whatever you do, don’t touch the joystick! Every booger eating, snot nose kid runs over to the machine and touches it. Wanna get sick? Go ahead, I dare you. Touch the buttons
If you’re traveling solo then Auto Including Driver is $ 56.00 bucks. Have extra passengers?$ 16.00 more. They have the ability to run debit cards out on the water, no worries.
When you arrive in Bridgeport, you’ll see how Port Jefferson is so much better. Thats because New York rules!

Showed up an hour and a half early to hopefully get a good spot. They let all the people that showed up late in the other lanes go on first, it really made no sense at all. Want a tip? Arrive as late as possible you will be one of the first people on and get a great seat with a table or at the bar.

Well maintained vessels and relatively friendly staff. On weekends it’s $ 56 for a car a driver for a one way trip which isn’t too expensive if you calculate the amount of fuel and payroll for a given trip.
The boat has a concession stand which is a little pricey but not too outrageous. There is also a cocktail bar at the bow of the vessel.
The vehicle deck isn’t too much of a nightmare although smaller vehicles are usually parked either on the upper deck or off to the sides on the lower deck; sitting directly underneath the upper deck, allowing taller vehicles to take up the middle section. Embarking and disembarking flows smoothly and an announcement is made over the boats PA system to alert drivers the vessel is approaching the dock.
All in all its smooth sailing, it sure beats driving through NYC traffic.

Very efficient and accommodating. Always on schedule and staff is friendly and helpful.

We took the Ferry from Bridgeport, CT to Port Jefferson, NY (Long Island) in order to visit a friend who recently moved to a nearby town. The trip was mostly good. We parked at the commuter lot (Watch out! Bridgeport signage can be confusing and sometimes obsolete) and took the shuttle over to the departure point (You can walk to and from the commuter lot, but be aware that the walking area is very narrow). We sat out by the water and waited for the Ferry to arrive. It pulled in right about on-​time, and let off all of the car and foot traffic before allowing any new passengers on. We went inside, bought breakfast at the snack bar (pricey but very god), and then went up top to sit in the fresh air. (The other levels are air conditioned/​heated, but the weather was perfect to sit outside.) The ride over was very pleasant — the only downside was the thrum of the engines can be jarring or even deafening in the wrong place, but you can usually move a dozen feet to your right or left to alleviate it.
We arrived in New York on-​time and we hit the only major problem of the trip — direction from the crew. The crew really assumes that you already know where to go and how. We crossed the ship half a dozen times trying to figure out where the foot traffic leaves the boat. It is unmarked and not obvious. We asked the crew but they rolled eyes and pointed vaguely toward one end of the boat. Eventually we followed «Zen Navigation» (thanks, Dirk Gently!) and just followed someone else who seemed to know where they were going. The exit was at the foot of one of the stairwells and was easy once a crew member showed up to let us out.
Please be aware ticketing is a bit counterintuitive, also. You buy a ticket on the ferry when you get there (if you reserved a spot online, you still must check in!), then you just hold onto the ticket until the VERY END of the voyage, when you hand the ticket to a crew member on the way off the boat. DO NOT throw away or lose your ticket during the ride, or you might be asked to pay twice.

$ 3.85 for a diet rite and $ 72 for a car with driver and one passenger. Rip off! There is no reason to charge extra for addition passengers in the cars. Fuel prices have came down significantly however the price continues to rise. The ship sucks here compared to European ferry service. The ship is very out dated it’s like a trip back to the 1980’s. Who gives this ferry company the right to price gouge the people of Long Island.

If you want to be stuck in your car for the first 20 minutes of the trip then this ferry is for you. They don’t know how to load the cars properly. Customer service on the ferry is a joke, and there is no wifi during the trip.

Crew here is more concerned with packing them in, who cares if you can’t get out of your car. Just make sure you pay full fair and buy a seven dollar cup of coffee at the snack bar. Great job macallister towing perhaps you should stick to tug boats
What happened to the wifi on the boat I am sure everyone enjoys staring at the access point flash. This used to work years back when it was Optimum

Clean, freshly painted, wide spaces. Only negative is inconsistencies with pricing. We prepaid one price over the phone, but when we got here we were told we had to pay an additional $ 75!!! She said she was sorry that we were misquoted, but we had to pay or get off. Call me crazy, but I believe what was reserved should be honored. If it was a pricing mistake in your system, that’s not our issue.

So what would you rather do? Sit in LIE traffic, or even worse, i95 traffic while listening to radio commercials for 2.5 hours (K-​A-​R-​S Kars 4 kidssss…) OR enjoy a beautiful view of the sound standing on your feet while trimming an hour off your travel time (and $ 75 from your wallet)? An hour of madness sitting in bumper to bumper traffic may not sound revolting enough to you but that same hour can be spent in absolute tranquility. I was even able to watch the Mets game during my most recent ferry experience and work on my tan on the upper decks.
Aside from the obvious cost — $ 54 for car and driver, $ 14 for passenger, and $ 75 thereafter if there are other stowaways, the main drawback is the time it takes to ensure a spot on the boat. On a sunny Saturday morning in July, the 10 am ferry without reservations requires getting on the standby line at least 35 minutes before boarding. That’s if you live dangerously. I can’t imagine what the 12 pm ferry is like.
A nice benefit of the Port Jefferson side is if you get there early on the standby line, you can leave your car and wander the beautiful Port Jeff waterfront. We actually grabbed a quick bite at Toast last time during the wait. This is in stark contrast to the barren wasteland called the Bridgeport ferry landing.
Bottom line is to get reservations. Antiquated website that requires an electronic payment and a print out of the email (make sure it contains the confirmation number and date). If you show up for an earlier ferry than your reservation, you can wait standby for a spot. Now if you’re a bonehead like me, you might accidentally book your ferry for the wrong day completely. The staff was pleasantly helpful and was able to get us on a ferry. The front desk accepted my numbskull ticket and even changed the return ticket for me. After beating myself up a little more, I was able to enjoy the rest of the ferry ride.
I wouldn’t recommend saving your mealtime for the ferry. Reminded me of something served in a hospital cafeteria. Overpriced and unsightly. A bottle of water was $ 3. Bathrooms were surprisingly not disgusting. Not clean clean, but I wasn’t sloshing around in yellow water either. Keep up the good aim fellows!

Overall I always have a good experience on the ferry. Ride is smooth & they do their job. Price is ridiculously expensive and increases every year. It deters me from taking the ferry often. Food is hit or miss, but usually surprisingly decent. Food is also baseball stadium prices.

A quick way to get from New England to Long Island or vice versa with your car. About $ 76 for car, driver and one additional passenger. So it’s a little pricey.
There is a lovely sun deck in which to relax absorb some rays or enjoy the view of the Long Island sound and shoreline. There is also and inside deck with padded chairs and lots of table space.
There is snack food aboard and a cocktail lounge as well. We didn’t eat any food on our hour journey, nor did we drink. I’m sure it’s expensive.

The ferry ride was great but Robert the «Chief Steward» in the cocktail lounge was rude and not personable. I asked him to cash out my credit card and he said that he could not. I asked him why and he shook his head out his hand in the air and walked away. I have been in the service industry for a long time and it seems as though he knows he has a monopoly on board this ferry and doesn’t care about customer service. What a shame. Time for a younger more personable person to take over.

Well, let’s be honest here. We all know that you’re reading this review of the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry because you’re stuck on the 1+ hour ferry ride and you forgot to bring your iPad and now have absolutely nothing else to do.
If you’re already on the ferry, then you already know what I’m about to tell you. The ferry is a great way to make the journey from Long Island to CT (and beyond) less stressful than driving into the NYC mess and out again. However, you also know that the amount of time it takes to get to the ferry early (10 – 15 mins), wait to be loaded (10 – 15 mins), take the ferry (75 mins), and wait to be unloaded (10 – 15 mins) equals out to being about the same amount of time you would have taken to drive anyways. So unless you’re going during rush hour, you probably don’t end up saving too much time taking the ferry.
BUT, the reason why it’s worth your consideration is just how relaxing the trip can be. There’s (mediocre) cafeteria style food on board, and if it is a nice day outside, the views are gorgeous. If it’s cold out, then there is plenty of seating inside. The reason that the ferry gets 4 stars, rather than 5 is the cost. $ 50+ is an anal probing price. I get you have to pay all the pimply-​faced kids who are running the loading/​unloading operations, but damn that’s a lot of money.

Horrible customer service!!!
I know many complain about the price and yes it is high but I have no problem paying if I am getting appropriate service. The girl at the counter has zero service skills. I made a reservation and they didn’t have it. They said it happens all the time but I needed to pay again and call the office at another time to talk to them. Ship members on board can also benefit from some customer service coaching.
The food is overpriced and they under deliver. Pretzels are cold, the only decent thing was the coffee.
I would recommend driving around as it takes the same time or taking the eastern LI ferry.

The ferry is a Great way to get to Bridgeport but it really doesn’t save any time. Is you count the total amount of time you have to spend waiting if you arrive early to make sure you get a spot (even if you buy your tickets ahead of time).
The thing that is great about it is that you can get out of your car and IF you do hit traffic, you will save some time.
The people are nice. I always thought they could make the bar and food area a bit nicer and inviting. But overall it is a good experience all the time.

Some of you people are ridiculous. If you’re comparing this ferry to municipal ferries like the Staten Island ferry then I think you need to have your head checked. The Staten Island ferry is entirely FREE and fully funded by the city of New York.
Hellooooo McFly? Can you pick a more non-​apples to non-​apples comparison?! I think not.
If you’ve spent any time in New England then you’d know these prices are not «obscene» but rather are in line with most ferry prices, which is to say they’re expensive. That’s life kids. Whether it be a Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island Ferry, Orient Point ferry, they are all expensive. Ferries aren’t established to service tightwad lab geeks or the cheapskates of the world.
This particular ferry was established for people who want to shave time off there Long Island-​Connecticut trip and are willing to pay for it. Sometimes rush hour traffic or construction traffic going over the Whitestone and Throgs Neck Bridge can be horrendous. This ferry simply offers an alternative. The ferry ride itself takes about one hour. It’s your call to whether or not it is useful. If I were traveling in the midnight hour I’d probably choose to take the bridge route.
Also, for the people who are complaining about the quality of the food and prices, are you serious? Bring your own food or at least stop at a 7-​Eleven next time. These are same people who rate an airlines based on the food and brand of boxed wine they serve. Who the hell travels for the food?
The ferry service is what it is. You leave dumpy Bridgeport and then arrive in beautiful Port Jefferson 17 miles away.
By the way, half way across, if you look to the distant north you’ll see the Stratford Shoal Lighthouse. New Yorkers claim ownership of the lighthouse although technically it resides on the right side, the Connecticut side.

This ferry certainly does the job, but dang, this is an expensive ferry ride. It will cost you $ 56 for the car plus the driver and then $ 16 for another passenger. Wowza! And that’s only one way!!! Like another Unilocaler said in their review, this is an old boat and you’d think they would be able to update the boat since their racking in the cash.
The customer service is below mediocre. When we got to the teller, I told them I booked online that morning. He was very short with me and said what’s the ticket number. So I politely provided him the information and he just mumbled go sit down. I was so confused on the situation and so took a seat. He continued to help other customers but ignore me until after 10 minutes I went back up to him and asked what was going on. Then a woman helped and she was a lot nicer.
I would have to say, coming back on the ferry at sunset was gorgeous!!! Made me forget that I was on a rickety boat.
