I needed a battery ASAP. Googled closest location. And was greeted by the best staff. Actually had a woman mechanic named Tina replace my battery. Knew her stuff. Was super refreshing to have such quick and quality service. You don’t see many females in this field and it was nice to be able to not feel like I was going to get pressured into something I didn’t need.
Overall the place was upfront about wait times, directed me towards coupons, and really nice group of people to talk with. You can tell they lived their jobs.

I am surprised to see less than stellar reviews for the Pompton Plains store. I was traveling back to Virginia after visiting in northern NJ when I realized one of my tires likely had a leak.
I showed up without an appt. asking them to patch my tire. Jason was friendly, professional and courteous.
I was in and out of there in an hour, on my way back home with a like new tire.
Thanks again for treating this traveller well.

The absolute worst. Needed a simple tire charge… ONE tire… And it took FOUR HOURS! They said it would take one hour tops, I told them I had to be at work, they didn’t care. To top it off, they were angry at my frustration, so they incorrectly put my hubcap on… Fell off on the highway leaving their place. I wouldn’t recommend this place to ANYONE.

at 11am. Email confirmation stated pick up at 3pm. Showed up at 5pm, no tires. Employee said to try tomorrow. No thanks, other pep boys have them in stock. Cordial staff, just not very mindful about customer service.

Follow up to my review of this place 9-​30-​2015. So I filed another complaint on the PepBoys website regarding the Sept. incident because no one called me the first time. Someone actually called the next day. His name was Jay and he identified himself as the area mgr. for that location. He apologized. BUT the story gets better.
I really started to worry about the head gasket issue and knew I had to get this resolved. A mechanic I wanted to use in FairLawn said he was too busy, and couldn’t do it.
So I scheduled an appointment with the PepBoys location in Parsippany, NJ. My mother lives there, and I’ve been there a few times and liked them, so what the heck, let me have them diagnose the coolant leak issue. YOU KNOW WHAT??? TURNS OUT IT WASN’T THE HEAD GASKET AFTER ALL!!! It was the thermostat and related sensors. I couldn’t believe it.
Now I really can’t stand that Pompton Plains location, BUT the guys at the Parsippany location ARE GREAT and most of all HONEST. I dealt with a guy there (James Nam). What a great guy. Great phone etiquette, personable, and really professional. This will be the only location I’ll ever go to.
So I called the area mgr. again today (Jay) and told him how his guys at the Pompton Plains location are a bunch of thieves, and about how the so-​called ex Ford mechanic (Josh) got it wrong when he said I needed the head gasket done.
Jay told me Josh quit and went back to Ford, and that that Pompton store has had quality control issues. NO SHIT!!!
Do yourself a favor, go to the Parsippany location.

The clowns lied to me about prices. I was never treated so rudely before in my life.
Go anywhere else. I will be contacting corporate.

Decided to do online process mainly bc I work night tour and I’m sleeping during day. I stopped in the day of my scheduled service to verify they had my Order. While checking my order status, manager noticed tired weren’t in stock and there was a glitch with inventory and computer software. Nonetheless, John found a comparable tire to which I ordered and found one in one of the local shops and had it sent over for my scheduled appointment. Customer service, excellent — keeping on schedule for appointment– took me in earlier I’m a time sensitive customer based on working night tour — Ty John for an above average experience

Simple. I needed to have (5) 35inch tires mounted and balanced. They got it done in about 1 hour. Recommended for the simpler jobs.

The first company I thought about when I could not get an appointment at the Mazda dealer was Pep Boys. I came in for an oil change. I did not realize that my tires were basically done. Dave Peszlen was EXTREMELY HELPFUL. He was very pleasant and went out of his way to ensure that I drove off safely. Very rarely do you meet car repair personnel with such integrity and willingness to go the extra mile for customers. He found tires that fit my budget and made certain that my time spent in the shop was worth it. I would definitely use them again and recommend others to be customers.

I brought my 12 years old Mazda to get checked. I had a great experience with them. Dave was the person who helped me. He explained everything very clearly and the service was wonderful. Thank you so much!

I brought my Subaru there for a basic oil change. Shortly afterwards, there was a burnt rubber smell inside and outside the car. Took it to the dealer, as it was under warranty. The culprit was whomever did the last oil change, I was told. They did not replace the seal properly and the oil filter was knocked out of place. If a mechanic is that lazy or that incompetent, he/​she should be in another business. Won’t return to Manny, Moe or Jack.

You know unfortunately the same crap customer service you get in most auto care places… You’ve been there before:
I dropped off my daughters car at 11:00 on a Saturday two new tires.
How long?
It will be about an hour.
Are you sure? My daughter needs to get to work?
About an hour. We’ll call you when it’s ready.
(. 2 hours later on the phone)
Is the car ready?!!
Going in now… Be about an hour.

I don’t know anything about cars but I do know a thing or two about customer service and this place is the perfect example of what not to be. Staff was lazy and unmotivated. I needed my car to be checked because the check engine light was on. I was barked at by two employees that all I needed was to add some over priced liquid into my gas tank. Sorry? Pretty sure I said I needed my car to be checked. When I insisted that it be looked at I got significant attitude that ended with «fine but it probably won’t be ready today». The next employee then proceeded to take my information while telling me stories about his previous car accidents and how I should just total my Saturn so I could be like him. The level of unprofessional-​ism was stunning. I should have known better then to leave my car with such hacks. They called me an hour later to tell me «we hooked it up to the computer and nothing happened and the light went out. We told you that would happen». At this point I wanted the experience to be over so I picked my car up, paid the 50 dollars without protest and left only to have the check engine light come on two days later. Needless to say AVOID this location at all costs. Nothing but shitty service by inept morons. Makes me question the entire pep boys brand if they allow certain locations to fall into such ruin.

I ordered the tires I wanted on their website. The price was pretty good. At the same time I made a 9 am Sat appointment for installation online. I printed the order confirmation and arrived at the appointed time only to be told they don’t accept appointments on Saturdays and they couldn’t take me for another two hours. They verified that the tires I ordered were in, but since they refused to honor my appointment and I was unwilling to wait 2+ hours I told them to forget it and walked out. Thankfully I had chosen the option to pay at the store instead of ahead of time.
Instead I drove few miles up Rt 23 to STS. There I received an equally good deal and was finished and on my way home 45 minutes before Pep Boys estimated they could even get to my car and that included a stop at a produce stand along the way.
If they don’t accept online appointments then why is that option available? I can’t be the first person to ever try that here.

Totally unhelpful and unorganized. Not a single employee wants to be there, and they really don’t want to help you. Don’t go here.
