Thank you for doing your part for the unsuspecting diners who threw away their hard earned money on your dishonorable establishment. Horrible food even more horrible service.

I’m not surprised that this place went out of business based on the really bad service I received the LAST time I went there in 2006. It took nearly 30 minutes to get one Ruben sandwich. And when it finally arrived, the wait person just put it on my table and walked away. I noticed relatively few customer in the restaurant at the time. Worth mentioning that this was just about the only German food restaurant in the entire region, and an excellent high-traffic location. Whoever was managing this place must have been out to lunch!

Is it my imagination, or is work being done at St. Pauli? Did I see a dumpster and posted liquor license? Please. ..

yep, it’s closed… checked again on 9÷11÷2010 — phone disconnected — no longer in service. what a shame, the last of the restaurants right on the river will miss it!

I was greatly disappointed to drive by this week to see a big«for sale» sign on the front of the building. I loved this place. They even survived a fire. I hope someone re-opens the restaurant.

I haven’t been here in many years and I really enjoyed it, but now it is gone. I recently drove passed it(2−10−10) on Hwy 50 and it’s clearly marked with For-Sale Signs! So sad!

My fiancé and I have driven by this place for years on our way up to Tahoe, since we love German food we have always wanted to try it but somehow always pass it along the way. It’s very hard to find a good German meal in the Northern California area. After a weekend of drinking and partying, we wanted something hearty for lunch. Since my fiancé is German and lived there for many years he knows his German food and gives this place his seal of approval. The dining room is old, small, quaint and very cute. It started to snow as we ordered our food, we were lucky missed the huge snow storm rolling into the mountains and made it home just in time since it came a day earlier than expected. Our friends and I had the(excuse my spelling) Sauerbraten, Jaeger Schnitzel, Goulash, Dumplings, Red Cabbage, Potato Soup, Fried Potatoes, Apple Strudel and Apricot Strudel. Every single item we had was authentic and delicious. The red cabbage had the right amount of sweet, sour and spices. The meats were all cooked perfectly and the sauces were rich and flavorful. The soup wasn’t ordinary potato soup, but it was nicely seasoned and hit the spot like a good soup should. The coffee was heaven and much needed after the long night, I enjoyed my nice hot cup while watching the snow fall. And the strudel… the strudel… light flaky crust, apples, apricots, cinnamon, raisins and fresh whipped cream all dusted with powder sugar… it was soooo damn good. Even if the food sucked I would come back for the strudel! Can’t wait to go back again!

havent stayed overnight so this is a review for the food only. i usually try to stop by here on the way to south lake tahoe for the best german fare ive had. they have really juicy, fresh tasting sausages that come with some good mustard and a generous amount of sauerkraut. i also really love their french dip which is saying a lot cuz i have a permanent aversion to roast beef. the french dip have thick slices of roast beef that just melts in your mouth. i always get it with the spaetzle and gravy. mmmmm i love their spaetzle. this is just a really great cozy place to rest and stretch your legs. everyone here is always really nice and friendly. the owners bought this place from the original owners who were german and kept all the same recipes.

We didn’t stay the night here, but we did eat lunch here. Great food, and the staff was very tolerant(even helpful) of our fussy child. Nice view from the back patio area.

This is probably the most amazing & delicious German restaurant I’ve been to this side of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Me & four friends dropped in for a «snack» on the way back from Reno, & wound up getting the sausage sampler(incredible), potato soup(delicious), potato pancakes w/apple sauce(a little on the greasy side, but AMAZING), spaetzle(not as good as what I had in Germany, but better than passable), & half an apple strudel(which was amazingly good, & the largest half of anything I’ve ever set my eyes upon). To top it off, the staff was incredibly nice, very attentive, & full of personality, & the ambiance of the place(we sat on the back porch) was so serene & calm. This is an ace up the sleeve for me now. Anytime I’m within 20 miles of this place, I’m going to go out of my way to come back.

I usually hit this place for a beer or two on my way to Tahoe. This time I had a cold meatloaf sandwich(very good) and potato pancake. It wasn’t until I got the bill that I saw the 2 beers I had were $ 9.50. Each. Ouch! Kinda pricey for a roadhouse. Next time I’ll try Strawberry a little ways up the road.

My family always make its a point to stop off at St. Pauli on our way to or from South Lake Tahoe. Very warm and cozy feel to the place. German dishes just like Oma(grandma) used to make. Specialties include schnitzel with spaetzle and red cabbage, hearty soups and brats. Good selection of beers to wash it down with.

I had spotted this German restaurant several times while driving up to Tahoe for a retreat and always wanted to check it out. Eating good German food is a religious experience for me, because it reminds me of my childhood as an Army brat, growing up in West Berlin. And it’s awfully hard not to appreciate German cuisine as true old-world comfort food since it usually involves cuts of meat slathered in gravy, potatoes or delicious starchy sides, and kraut or cabbage or green beans or some other stewed veggie concoction. I like to imagine a perfect world – in which I could shrink down to miniature proportions, like Tiny Elvis, and roll around and bathe in my warm platter of European saucy goodness. They’d have to forward my mail! This place hit the spot after a day of hiking in the mountains. The waitress was immediately helpful with the beer selection, using her German telepathy to sense our need for a cold crisp pilsner. I took it upon myself to help hiking comrades navigate the menu, pronouncing every guttural consonant in my best overemphasized Hochdeutsch. We all settled on the Sauerbraten mit Spaetzl und Rotkohl. This is a favorite dish of mine: pickled beef pot roast, fluffy egg noodle/dumplings, and vinegary stewed red cabbage. And although the gravy on the Sauerbraten(literally«sour roast») was wonderful, I still maintain bragging rights for my home-cooked version in which the braising liquid reduction is thickened into gravy with crushed ginger snaps. «Gott im Himmel!» Nonetheless, the food at the St Pauli Inn hits the spot, which in my case is somewhere near my schnitzel gland.
