Generally, everyone I’ve met in Point Richmond has been very nice. This has been the one exception. Just don’t bring your child into the store. The owner freaked out when my son popped the windshield off a toy car that clearly was designed to be removable. The shame is that I actually had $ 24 worth of merchandise in my hands that I was planning to buy – until she flipped out that is. If she doesn’t want children in the store, my advice is to either not sell toys or put toys on a shelf so high that only adults can reach them. Don’t put them on the low shelves where a 6-year old can reach them. The flip out over a $ 5 toy car where the windshield popped right back in lost her a $ 24 sale, a shame because I was actually going to buy more than that.

I love this shop! I’ve been in here several times when looking for a little(kind of inexpensive but unique) treasure mostly to give as little gifts to friend, family or co-workers. I found all kinds of perfect little stocking stuffers for Xmas as well as gorgeous crystal pins for $ 10 that come in little velvet red pouches. Kathy Scott, the owner, is a delight to work with as well. I highly recommend a browse through the Art Lounge(next to Starbuck’s in old town Pt. Richmond). Well worth the time!

A funky bunch of 2nd hand and discontinued merchandise stores. I say stores as the owner of this location has another store a few hundred feet away. There was a large selection of woman’s clothing along with knick knacks of all shapes and sizes. The owner was helpful, but I found her to be a bit rude in my opinion. I wouldn’t choose to come back.

This place is full of super schlocky, overpriced flea market booth junk. It could be good if you’re looking to jazz up a costume or something. My 3 year old daughter is absolutely fascinated by the stuff– costume jewelry and the like, but the owner is incredibly unfriendly to her each time we are there. My daughter is respectful and gentle with the stock, but never do we enter without being warned by the owner that she needs to be watched carefully lest things get broken. I am a responsible parent, I have raised my child to be respectful and cautious in stores. I cannot wait for the day to arrive when my daughter recognizes this store for what it really is, cheesy, and stops wanting to go in.

I was surprised to find so many stores are closed on Labor Day. Perhaps I spend most Labor Days at home BBQing. But this year we were headed to do some hiking in Point Richmond and ended up walking around downtown instead. Walking in here was initially a little overwhelming. That’s because there is so much stuff. And it’s all so unique and sparkly and fun. From dressed up rubber duckies(probably 100 different ducky outfits!!) to jewelry and watches, to furry coats perfect for Burning Man. We walked around and found a great hat for my husband and a headband for me. Crochet pens fashioned to resemble adorable animals and sparkly pins to put on your collar; there was so much to look at. A small room in the back has an adults-only section with some awesome naughty birthday, get well, and wedding cards. We grabbed a few! It’s not a spacious store and it’s not huge, but it’s medium small-size is separated into a couple even smaller room sections. The prices were great(our total came to $ 21.25) and we really had fun talking to the nice lady that was working. It wasn’t her store but she was very friendly and we wouldn’t have known it wasn’t if she hadn’t told us. A great employee and a great stop on our visit to Point Richmond. Note: The sister store, Park Place Lounge, is only a few doors up the street. It has more clothing and shoes and nicer pieces of jewelry, but is much smaller.

In preparation for 3 separate Halloween parties(including Unilocal’s Day of the Dead! in Sacramento & Unilocal’s Jet Set Fête in Oakland) over the weekend just before All-Hallows-Eve itself, I came across the perfect costume accessory at this funky little shop in Point Richmond. From the outside, the Art Lounge looks like a traveling circus crashed into a BDSM dungeon. Inside, however, is not a fetishist’s paradise. It’s more like a temple to all things kitsch. Every square inch in this place, from floor to ceiling, is packed with various trinkets, baubles, curios & knickknacks. The curator of this bizarre bazaar is a nice & lovely lady with plenty of stories of her travels during which she procured some of the interesting items for sale in the shop. While purchasing my Day of the Dead necktie, she shared a few tidbits about a tray of handmade costume jewelry pieces she had brought back from Croatia. The Art Lounge is a funky cool shop with an eclectic selection of odd & off-center accessories, ornaments & jewelry. I’m sure the next time I need that 1 weird piece to complete an ensemble for a Unilocal event or whatever, I’ll be back here to get it.

The Art Lounge is a cool and funky pace to buy gifts for friends and family. I used to live and work in Pt. Richmond and went there often. I have bought cute calendars, jewelry, sunglasses and more. She has these great glass rings made in Italy for about $ 10 — I bought one when I was in Venice and was kicking myself for not buying more; now I buy them at Art Lounge.
