Thankfully, they are now out of business and replaced with a really good Indian restaurant.

Their brisket is the best we have ever had, anywhere! Very lean, tender and delicious! You have to try it!!! We eat here very often and it is always wonderful!

This is the best smoked meat I have ever bought and it’s consistent. These people have figured out how to provision awesome meat and how to cook it perfectly. It has one horrible problem though, I always have to take home a small fortunes worth of extra meat and, I can’t ever decide which so I end up buying smoked pork, brisket AND ribs. I love it soooo much. I have been slow-cooking similar meat for twenty years and I no longer bother. I have never made slow-cooked meat that is better than theirs. You know, I’m going to stop and get some tomorrow. Go to this place. Praise them for their marvelousness. Make your own life good again.

I am not going to say this is the world’s best BBQ, but it is good BBQ that is convenient. There isn’t great BBQ in Minneapolis that I have found, but I think Dickey’s is better than Famous Dave’s. The thing that I like about this specific location the most is how friendly and welcoming the staff is. Good food and great atmosphere.

Last night I wasn’t sure what I was hungry for, so I drove on down to the strip mall area off Vicksburg looking for a new place to try. Being that it was one of the first nice spring days, I had my windows open. As I drove into the strip mall I could smell the smoky goodness of BBQ! I looked around and saw the sign for Dickey’s BBQ pit. I got the texas beef brisket, which to my surprise was just a pile of beef in a paper carton. Isn’t this usually served on texas toast? It was kind of dry and crunchy too. I got the waffle iron fries on the side — which were excellent but didn’t come salted, as well as a loaded baked potato. The potato was alright but had a ton of cheese. Almost too much. The BBQ sauce was in two warmers and you could ladle one or the other onto your stuff or into portion cups. Everything was ok, but nothing really stood out. I’d honestly rather have Famous Daves. I think they are much better.

Okay. This is fast food BBQ. Still what Dickey’s throws away is better than what Famous Dave’s serves. I will admit Minnesota has no BBQ and what there is rates poor to mediocre. This location is very clean, and I have never had an issue. Daily specials that include a beverage. Is it the best? No, but it certainly is not bad and far less expensive than Famous Dave’s. At least at Dickey’s they allow you to select your sides. Give it a try,

I’m really surprised that this place is getting such bad reviews. We’ve eaten here about a dozen times over the past 2 years. The BBQ is generally very good considering the money. I definitely like it better than Famous Daves, and I like Famous Dave’s. Dave’s has a better atmosphere, but then Dickie’s is a little cheaper so that balances out. As for the staff complaints, I’m frankly shocked here. They’ve always treated us like were were magazine food critics or something, that is top-notch. One time they forgot to ask us if we wanted drinks before ringing up the order, and when my wife mentioned it they threw in 4 large drinks for free. One time we had a coupon for buy one dinner, get one free, and they still let us use it with the«kids eat free» special that was going on that day(I’ve never had ANY place anywhere do that). One time they gave us a free extra side«just because». They will typically stop by your table and make sure eveything is ok, which is impressive for a counter-service restaurant. Even when we went one time and it was«staffed solely by teens» as one review put it, they were all awesome — in fact my wife commented to them that they were really dedicated. Anyway, for those who haven’t tried the place, give it a shot. You might like it. You might not. I just hate to see people avoid the place because of a string of bad reviews here.

Pretty delicious BBQ. This is a very casual, order at the counter type of place, great for a quick meal. I had the pulled pork sandwich and the baked potato caserole which were both delicious. Their original BBQ sauce is great too. Was not a fan of the green beans and bacon, but they were a traditional stewed to death style that is customary for the south.

I’m torn. On one hand this Texas girl is just glad to have something reminiscent of barbecue from back home. Granted there is an abundance of INCREDIBLE barbecue back home, but this IS from home so when we need a fix this is our go-to for the time being. As we’ve been to this particular location several times now, I feel ready to write my review. Each time we have gone to this location they have been out of something. I have tried to order a baked potato three visits in a row and they have been out. This past visit they were out of ham and pecan pie when my husband tried to order it. We go here for dinner, and granted it is sometimes on the later end of the dinner time spectrum, but they are a restaurant that is open for business to serve dinner. If you aren’t going to have available what is on your menu during your business hours then why stay open? I think it is more of them running out earlier in the day and not going to the effort of preparing more. It is important to note that we are understanding people. But when something happens EVERYTIME… Another thing is the ambiance. Every time we’ve been 90% of the chairs have been placed on top of the tables. While I understand that the one or two lone employees that seem to be the only ones there… ever…are trying to save time when it comes to closing, they should understand that this is very off-putting. It automatically makes a customer question whether they are open when they walk through the door. It also makes it less welcoming. I think one of the two lone employees that I mentioned happens to be the general manager. I WILL say that he has always been very friendly. He looked to be the one person working on our last visit and was apologetic over us having to wait while he served the two people in front of us(we didn’t complain) and offered us a free cookie because they were out of pecan pie. I will also say that this last trip, despite all that I mentioned above, the food was really good. I got the pulled pork sandwich and it got messy with the sauce… which is a GOOD thing! My husband’s brisket on his 3-meat plate(sans ham, lol) was delicious. The bark? Like candy. Sometimes you just need a barbecue fix. We are severely limited now that we are away from Texas(boo) and there is no way in holy hell that we will ever go back to Famous Dave’s. Will we go back to Dickey’s? Yes, probably, but with the expectation of them not being fully stocked, lol. I do wonder if they just don’t have enough traffic, which makes me wonder if another location would be better… I also feel like I should point out that people who visit Texas should still try barbecue while there even if you weren’t pleased with Dickey’s up here. Ask around and try somewhere else. You will have tons to choose from! It would be unfair to Texas to not try the real thing. After all, Minnesota isn’t exactly barbecue country.

I grew up eating Dickey’s in Texas as a kid & have visited this location a number of times only to be repeatedly disappointed. Our wait was 22 minutes w only 3 people in front of us, my son couldn’t bite thru the«fall off the bone ribs»…bone dry is perhaps a better description. The owner was there and he is aloof to his surroundings. Farewell childhood memories of the big yellow cup & free ice cream. I choose to take my son elsewhere from now on to experience real bbq.

The guy behind the counter greeted me right away and asked if I had any questions. He was friendly and very helpful. The speed of service was fast and the food was excellent. The menu at Dickey’s isn’t as extensive as Famous Dave’s for example, but the quality of the Texas beef brisket is just as good and you don’t have to wait nearly as long for your food. This is a great BBQ joint for a quick lunch, or even for dinner with the family. They offer daily specials/promotions, free Wi-Fi, and who could forget the free vanilla soft serve ice cream! A nice little treat to enjoy as long as you save room for it ;-)

I guess it had to happen. My first one star review. I have to say that my experience with this location stands in sharp contrast to my generally favorable impression of the Eagan branch. It’s hard to believe the Plymouth store is part of the same chain. Let’s start with the fact that twice I’ve come here around 7:40PM on a Saturday for takeout and encountered limited offerings. I should have known better after the first time. In any case, one might reasonably expect at that hour a BBQ joint would still be serving their full menu. Not if you come to this establishment. Most recently they were out of Pork Ribs(I kid you not!), Chopped Beef Brisket and Chicken Breast(no great loss). Since I do like the Pulled Pork I was glad they were somehow able to assemble a plate. Others I was with were very disappointed that ribs and beef brisket were literally off the table. As far as sides, they were out of most of those as well. I ended up with a nothing special Baked Potato Casserole and some OK Cole Slaw. Now, here’s where it gets even better. The place was staffed with kids who looked and acted like seventeen year olds. Disinterest, confusion over orders, general bewilderment and much movement to no good purpose. The pots of warmed BBQ sauce to which one is invited to help oneself were EMPTY! When this was pointed out reactions ranged from stunned to sullen. The machine that was supposed to dispense free soft serve ice cream was broken. The jar of free pickles looked downright scary. I seem to recall a Twilight Zone episode… In comparison the people who operate the Eagan Dickey’s seem like BBQ pit masters. At least they always seem to genuinely care about their product and service. Since I live much closer to the Plymouth location, it would be nice if they someday get their act together. Until such a time, I will avoid.

My husband and I happened to find this place while we were on our way to the home improvement store across the parking lot. Stepping through the door, the food smelled amazing! However, my excitement was quickly taken down a notch when the person behind the counter completely ignored us. I had to yell and wave my arms to get his attention. Once we got the worker’s attention, we had to repeat our orders several times for him to finally get it right. He simply didn’t listen. A football game was blaring over the speakers while we were there, so I’m assuming he was more interested in quickly pushing us through the line so he could get back to listening(since that’s what he was doing when we walked in and he was ignoring us). The food was good, but certainly not the best barbecue I’ve ever had. I thought it was overpriced for the amount that you get. Also, I felt like the barbecue sauces all tasted pretty similar… there was not much a difference from one to the next. While I will probably eat here again just to give it another shot, I would be more likely to try other barbecue joints in the area first!

Let’s be honest here, anyone that gives this restaurant more than 2 stars has never had anything near real barbecue. The barbecue was just ok, a little better than Famous Daves but the sides were an embarrassment. Do they ever try their own food? But then again when you’re replicating Texas bbq what should we expect?

I have a good friend that works near here and we decided to try Dickey’s because my wife and I had a Crowd Cut coupon for $ 16. I ordered the Westerner Hoagie and my wife ordered the one meat platter with a side of beans and the second was jalapeño beans. We added a big yellow cup pop, and I think it was only $ 3 over the sixteen dollars. She gave me the jalapeño beans, but I think they got it wrong, because there were no jalapenos in there. They were good though, down to every last drop. Viscous sauce with well baked beans. My hoagie had turkey and pulled pork with buttered bread and cheese. A little too much butter on the bread since I am not trying to kill myself, but the bread was fresh and good. The BBQ sauce was good, but I should have added the spicy one, which is available off to the side. They added some BBQ sauce after I ordered the meat option from the high school kid that greets you. The sandwich was really good, but I got about 4 free pickles worth of pickles. Did I mention the free pickles and ice cream?(Delicious) I brought home half the sandwich because it was so much food and I tried some of my wife’s leftovers for dinner. Wonderful! It was really a 4 star leftover meal. My wife loved he roll, and we were all impressed with the layout. They had some college football games on the TVs and everyone seemed happy. This was probably the best Dickey’s we have been to in the Cities, and this is our third one. Free pickles!

The mac & cheese tasted like low rent Velveeta Shells & Cheese. The soda fountain was broken. The ice cream machine was broken. The line worker needed to speak to a manager before being able to put a leaf of lettuce on a sandwich since it normally doesn’t come with one. Famous Dave’s has nothing to worry about.

When I walked in, I was instantly reminded of my favorite bar b q places back in Texas. The smells of beef, sausage, ribs, and homestyle sides made me want to grab a partner and do sa do. The first time I came I got the two meat combo with chopped brisket and cheddar sausage. Pass on the cheddar sausage, it tastes better on paper. For my sides, I got a baked potato casserole and green beans. The baked potato casserole is glorified mash potatoes. Nonetheless it was still very very good. I really liked the roll that the meal came with. The chopped brisket was juicy and fatty, just the way I like it. The second time around, I got a little hoagie with chopped brisket and a side of mac & cheese and onion tanglers. I loved the cheesy goodness of mac and cheese and the onion tanglers complemented my hoagie nicely(I put it inside the sandwich). The real reason I love this place is the free soft serve ice cream. How can you not love ice cream especially when it’s free?

After to moving to Minneapolis from North Carolina, I was looking for a place to find some good BBQ. Although not as good to what I am used to, it was till very decent. I like how the chef cuts your meat and prepares your main course right in front of you. Let’s me know my meal hasn’t been sitting out all day. I got the pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, and beans, with a sweet tea. The sandwich was fine, but not any better than a pulled pork sandwich I could get in the Memphis airport(which I have done plenty of times, ha!) It was just a little too bland, and slightly dry. The mac and cheese was probably the best of the meal, as it was very cheesy. Another bummer was that the sweet tea was not sweet enough. To me, sweet tea is different from sweetened iced tea — there’s a huge difference. If I ever need a BBQ lunch fix, I’ll go back, but only because there’s no closer option for the cuisine.

I cought a wiff of BBQ and noticed a new restaurant called Dickey’s BBQPIT right by Lowe’s. There was no chance of resisting! Unfortunately for me, most the food I got sucked pretty bad. The good thing… I tried 3 sauces and 3 menu items for $ 6. Walking it, it smelled delicious. They have it set up much like POTBELLY, across the parking lot. A line forms, and sandwiches are ordered over a tall wall(midgets be damned) where a grumpy teen dutifully makes your sandwich. You proceed along the wall and someone else prepared your sides, and then you pay the cashier at the end of the line and get your drink cup. I got the cheapest option, the LILHOAGIE($ 3). My choice of meat, turkey. Dude carefully sliced off and weighed 2oz of very tender, ham-like turkey and slapped it of a nice sized hoagie. The next guy offered to add onions, pickle, and bbq sauce to it. Of course I got BBQ. Thankfully he took it easy with that. I had plenty of time to peruse the dozen options for sides by then, and decided to upgrade to the sandwich plate for just $ 2.50 more, and see what their ONIONTANGLERS, and MAC&CHEESE would be like. Not so good ws my general conclusion. Mac is hard to screw up, and I wouldn’t say it was bad, but it just reminded me of the sloppy grade school cafeteria mac, and needed some help. Fine for the kiddies, none the less. The onion tanglers were french fried onions, but they had a bitter taste(maybe they were just using bad oil that shit had been burnt in?) and WAY too much salt(not that I don’t love salt). They had 3 warm pots of BBQ at the condiment station to try. Original, Sweet & Hot & spicy. The only one I thought wasn’t nasty, was the original… and that one didn’t rank abovethe likes of Masterpiece(the kind you can get at Rainbow for under $ 2), or come within a metaphorical mile of anything I’ve ever had at Famous Daves. Dickey’s up sides: Free vanilla soft-serve ice cream with dine-in(I didn’t bother, but the kids would be happy), relatively cheap meal. With a Famous Daves equal distance from my house as this joint, on 55, I highly doubt I’ll be back. Dave kicks Dickey’s ass all over the place!

This was my first trip to this Dickeys. I ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket and shredded pork. Mac’n’Chz and waffle fries as sides. 1st the sides. The waffle fries were cold right from the kitchen and the M’n’C had no flavor. But that is not what I was there for, on to the meat! The pulled pork had a lot of flavor plain and with a little spicy sauce really brought out all the flavor. The brisket was very good had a lot of smoke to it and I had the original sauce with it and just dipped a little meat into it. The meat really stood on its own. The sauces at dickeys are very thin/runny but I enjoy different sauces all the time, The sauces at places like Dave’s can be very sugary these have more vinegary tone. This is probably the 4th or 5th time going to DIckey’s, I have been to 3 different ones around the cities. There has been a rather wide range of quality. This meats were some of the best so far, but, the sides were awful. $ 10 for BBQ lunch can’t argue with that.
