Pretty much the worst everything I’ve ever had. House salad was over washed, barely had dressing and crutons were paper thin. Flat iron is made from a low quality cut and had to be doused in steak sauce so i could eat some of it. Mashed potatoes are watery and bland. The fried greenbeans are ‘eh’ and that was the best thing on my plate. Just bad, very very bad…

Lunchtime crowded but I still got a whole table to myself. I was in a quiet corner, so I wasn’t rushed. Service was almost absent, but I had a good book and wanted exactly that. Probably not the place to go if you’re in a hurry. Probably between 4 and 5 stars, rounding up because they seemed to read my mind. My food was terrific. I had the 2 meat lunch combo with salad and sweet potato fries. It was preceeded by warm cornbread and honey butter that was like frosting. So I started my meal with dessert. The brisket was amazingly tender and tasted like it had actually been smoked. No weird gristle bits. Sauce was in a tiny cup, but other people asked for more and got it. Meat didn’t need it. Second meat was pork ribs. Those are amazing. They were juicy without that weird layer of blubber that separates the cooked on sauce from the meat, ribs have that most of the time and it’s much nicer without the blubber. Great sweet potato fries. Salad was salad, next time I’d ask for it to be on a separate plate. That’s my biggest complaint. Tea was good, refills weren’t stingy. Expensive lunch though, with soft drink and tax and tip it was $ 22. Would absolutely eat here again even at that price. Parking lot was fine at lunch on a weekday.

Every year we make a large reservation for my grandmother’s birthday. This year was no exception, and we celebrated her 91st birthday there! The staff was courtious, very attentive, and prompt. We never were made to wait for beverages and for the buffet type meal we had ordered. Our party’s room was a bit warm but he staff allowed us to use the patio to cool off(and let our kids run some energy out). Very impressed with this place. The valet service in the evenings is an absolute plus!

I never thought I’d come back here after my first experience, but it’s walking distance from my girlfriend’s house and I needed a beer so I figured I’d give it another shot. I came in right around their happy hour and the bar area wasn’t too busy. I was, however, the only girl in their besides the bartender. No biggie, but I think the bartender was happy to see me because she approached me immediately, which was nice. She told me about their happy hour special, half off all appetizers. I ordered a 25oz Widmer Hefeweizen and the basket of chicken tenders. I can’t complain about the beer but the chicken tenders were very dry and came with a single piece of lettuce that looked rotten. I won’t lie, the chicken tenders from Jack in the Box are better. I know this place is known for its BBQ, so if i do come back i’ll have to stick with that. Overall, it’s a nice place if you’re looking to just have a drink.

The service at this restaurant surprises me! I’ve been here 3 times and 2⁄3 my group was seated at a table that was in its own little pod that seemed hard to view. At first I was worried that we’d never get checked on, but the staff does a really good job of making its rounds to check on tables! The main courses are pretty good as well, although sometimes the beef brisket can be a tad on the dry side. I think that just depends on the day. Last point, dessert. My dad absolutely LOVES the Texas Mud! He orders it almost every time. Definitely a go-to place for my family :)

Very Good BBQ! Service has always been fantastic, we’ve enjoyed this restaurant for years, when my partner and I were younger… and I recall my mom hiring Back Forty to cater for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary…25 years ago. The manager on today’s Saturday afternoon visit was pleasant and friendly… even when I was mistaken about my burger. Just a great experience. We sat on the patio and he offered our dog a bone. Super great service! Jalapeño Bacon and Outlaw Burgers are great… BBQ sausage is great too… best side /fixings anywhere! Some posters here are pretty harsh. BBQ is vast and varies in each state or region, so I think it can be fairly subjective. And if it’s different than«your state» or «your favorite BBQ spot», don’t judge it against them… I don’t think you’ll find 2BBQ venues identical. Good job Back Forty!

Great BBQ joint! It’s perfect for gatherings especially with family. The wait is ridiculous and there’s a reason for it. Side portions are large and BBQ items were items. The Combination Dinner was my pick. It included 3 choices of meat which in this case I’ve picked chicken, beef brisket, and pork ribs. Tasty BBQ! Beware of the limited parking spaces. Valet is an option and if you are lucky there’s street parking. I was fortunately enough to find one.

Came in for a beer, I ordered a small but they bar tender brought me(and charged me for a large) ok. that’s fine. I asked for a small Caesar salad that came drowned in dressing. I wasn’t very happy but its nothing worth mentioning to the server. I left this restaurant feeling irritated. I won’t come back here.

I came to the place and signed up for a table for 5 people. There was an hour wait and we were waiting for my brother and sis n law from out of town anyway. It was really hot that day and while waiting, I asked one of the hostesses if I could have a glass of cold water. She was attentive and was willing to get that for me. It was really nice. I had my parents to talk to, so it wasnt too bad of a wait. By the time they called out my name, my brother and sis n law had already walked right in. I ordered a beef brisket dish and a side salad dish. I liked it. The waitress was accommodating and the food was good. The bathrooms and the entire restaurant appeared to look clean to me. It was good. It was a great time to catch up with family.

This is an update to my past review. First off i like to saw how great the management is here to keep a customer happy. I had an awful experience once and they said they would make it right and they did. Our server she was awesome my drink was never more than half empty, constantly checking on us even though she was swamped. This time they where not out of pork ribs. These where very good had competition rib tenderness. One thing did not like they left the silver skin on so not much smoke flavor threwout the meat. Wife’s turkey this time was tender and very juicy, daughter had the brisket and she loved it also. The favorite thing for me still is the pulled pork potato skins they are off the charts the smoke on there pulled pork and that potato is a flavor i die for. Great job back forty i will definitely be back now.

Egh… definitely a place I could had passed on. I came here on a whim recently while running some errands close by. I had a craving for some grilled chicken and a nice cold beer, when I decided on checking out this 40; mainly for the mere reason that I had been curious of checking them out for years now. I have to say, I am a sucker for these old western, slightly dated atmosphere, similar to places such as Black Angus and Cattlemens, so with that alone, I was impressed. I ended up sitting at a nice big table to myself in the bar area. Service was quick to attend to me by bringing me a menu and asking for my drink. I’m not a big barbecue type person at all, other than a good Rib Eye steak and some grilled chicken hence, the reason it brought me it. They have a decent selection of standard chain style, steak house restaurant items to choose from. For drinks, I chose some different Lauganitas IPA I had never heard of — it was nice and strong. For food, I ended up choosing from their lunch menu. I chose a half chicken, which comes accommodated with two side choices. I just ordered two sides of steamed vegetables. Service was decent. Food arrived average in presentation, and unfortunately, average tasting it was. The chicken came smothered in a thick bbq sauce that I was not aware of it coming with; but that was fine, because I did not have intentions of eating the skin, so I just pulled it off. The taste of the chicken was decent– flavorful, and juicy for the most. Now the steamed vegetables? Ugh… I don’t know what the hell they did to these«Steamed Vegetables» but man, were they a poor excuse for restaurant style, supposed to be decent, steamed veggies. The veggies consisted of mostly cauliflower, carrots and a few broccoli florets — all were not completely cooked through(except the carrots) and tasted just horrendous… definitely exuded a half ass done job; thank God, I had the nice cold beer to satisfy me. Overall, aside from the appealing atmosphere(to me) and decent service, as far as the food goes, I certainly can say, that I am not eager to come back.

The downer here is the parking, but hey thats what vallet is for! This place is the go-to place for BBQ in my family. Never disappoints, never hungry, always full. I usually always hit up a full slab of the pork ribs, I think they have the best ones in the area. My parents and grandparents can share a dinner for two, it is gigantic as well. Friendly staff and always asks me if I need any condiments, which I always do! I rarely get dessert here because the food from the main entrée stuffs me up. This place also has a party room upstairs, perfect for events.

After over a year later i had the pleasure of experiencing Back Forty(BF) and i must say it was good. The Buffalo Pork Wings was delicious it appears to be BF’s special. The prime rib was tender and the meat loaf was so flavorful. The banana pudding was presented in a southern fashion and really tasted good. I like the idea that the owner, Mike W is concerned about how the staff treats the customers so you see the friendliness being radiated throughout the restaurant. If you want to experience a great ambiance, great food and good customer service stop by Back Forty.

Back Forty BBQ is a great establishment, and I feel a great staple to the east bay area. Their commitment to providing great food and to bring a new taste to the area that most probably aren’t use to or consider a «special occasion treat» but the prices and quality makes this a place you can enjoy on a more frequent bases. The food here is cooked in a smoking method you can taste all the way through the meats. The ribs literally want to fall off the bone when you pick one of them up. You can see the pink in the meats from the smoking, a true testament to the attention to detail they put in their meats. It’s no wonder they fair well at the Nugget Rib Cook Off and other public events they go too. The sides are all house made, you can taste that when you order a side of Mac and Cheese or Scalloped Potatoes or one of the other delicious sides or desserts. In conclusion the meals are very hardy and you’ll leave full. Highly recommended of you want a real bbq cooked with love and pride. Come to Back Forty, you’ll like it here. Unilocal your experience whether you like it or not. You be your own judge!

I was back in the area after being gone for several years, and I needed a place to catch up with some old friends. Back Forty provided us a private room for our gathering and was completely unconcerned about all the time we were taking. Our waitress took excellent care of us, bringing us drinks and appetizers during our extended wait for the last people to arrive. We tried the Texas Trial appetizer platter. All the fried stuff was OK, but the pulled-pork stuffed potato skins were amazing(and filling). The sandwiches were all very good. Most of us got bread pudding to take home, but I already knew I wanted their banana pudding, even before we got there.

With a $ 40 gift certificate in hand, I took my Son out to dinner here last Friday. My 19 year-old is 6′ 2″ tall, weights ~240 pounds, and has a «hollow leg» food wise. Hence, Texas Back Forty was the perfect place to «load up». Even on an early Friday evening, this place is busy. We arrived at 5:30PM, and faced a 30 minute wait. However, there were seats in the bar area, complete with drinks, an early appetizer order, and nice solo live music. Once seated, service was prompt and friendly. The Kid had a burger and fries(with all the fixings), while I enjoyed a Tri Tip and Bleu Cheese salad. My choice certainly seemed«healthy» compared to the BBQ choices, but I was probably kidding myself. My Son thought his choice was one of the best he’s ever had, and I was pleased too. The bill pretty much match the gift certificate, and were were out of here for the price of a generous tip. Best of all, it was great to hang out with my Son.

Stopped in to grab a quick bite for lunch. It was pretty early around 11:00 am. Walked in, nobody around at first, a minute later a staff member comes out from the back and seats me at a table. Their menu has great variety and lunch portion size menu too! I like that you can choose from a large variety of sides. I ordered the pork ribs with apple coleslaw and shoestring fries. The pork ribs were good(very similar to Armadillos), the apple coleslaw was good too, but it only had one small piece of apple in it — a bit disappointing, and the shoestring fries were not what I was thinking of, I was thinking of a thinner type fry, these were just regular french fries that were over salted. Service was friendly but hard to find, I guess this time of day is there time to socialize in the back, because I had to flag someone down to get the bill and pay so I could return to the workforce. Prices are reasonable, parking was easy. BBQ was A-OK!

I have attended two banquets here. Both times the food was on par for buffet and the service was incredible. This time I was delivering a cake for my friend’s reception. Not only did they valet my vehicle, they helped me carry the cake. The bartender was friendly and helped with service when the bar was empty. I chose the brisket and it was moist and flavorful. The beans needed a little more seasoning. The potatoes were delicious. The salad was impressive. The buns were soft & fluffy. They did a great job cutting & serving the cake. They gladly provided us with some small to go containers at the end of the night. Our plates were always cleared promptly and encouraged us to go back for seconds. All in all, our every need was taken care of and we had a great time dancing late into the night. They only seem to get better.
