Subway

This Subway does not wash their knives! I don’t know about you, but I don’t want someone else’s food on my sandwich. I have spoken to a manager who didn’t seem to care and I can’t believe how lazy their employees are at this one. Event though this one is nearest to me, I’ll have do find another due to the carelessness of the staff.

Come here every so often. 10+ stars on customer service for Francisco! Goes above and beyond, not only friendly with me, but also the way treats all the customers in the store it is always more than expected! Pretty amazing to see him know customers on a first name basis and make everyone feel welcome!

I went here at 9pm the other night. Nobody was in. It took literally 15 minutes to get my footling Black Forest Ham.
Seriously, this Subway blows. Save your time, money and tastebuds and go to Yum Yum if you want a sandwich

Typical subway fast food restaurant with highly processed everything that can possi be processed: meat, cheese, bread. The bread is average, not stale yet not super fresh. The workers don’t speak much English yet they try their best.
Subway is now kind of expensive for what it is. Footlongs run from $ 6 to $ 9 although they do offer a footlong cold cut made from turkey that is acceptable.
Very few tables indoors yet 3 or 4 tables outside excepth the birds frequent the outside tables. Not very sanitary or appetizing.
I prefer to eat at the Good Pizza in the same strip mall.

So. Subway. You sort of know what you’re getting into. You don’t really expect much. And trust me. I don’t get my hopes up at restaurants like this. But this particular subway has probably the worst service I’ve encountered. It gets two stars because it’s subway and not a five star restaurant. The only way they would get one star is if I saw them spit in my food or something. And they don’t get three stars because they don’t do an average job of being sandwich artists.
Anywho. Two stars because they don’t put regular amounts of veggies on your sandwich. Regular by subway’s standards which is already pretty little. They also give more attitude than most restaurants in their class. But again. It’s just subway.

The food is typical Subway, nothing difference, nothing special. Which is fine with me, I know what I“m getting when I visit a Subway, and my kids LOVE it.
What I like a little better about this particular Subway, besides the walking distance from home, is that the staff is so super friendly. They greet everyone coming in the door, and not out of obligation. If a person has been in there more than a few times, they remember them, ask how they are, etc.
I like that it’s a chain place with a neighborhood feel.

There are not many places to eat out in Playa Del Rey and this Subway is one of them; however, I don’t eat out as much anymore because there are consistent problems with the customer service at this eatery. The last two times I was here with my mother, I was served by an EXTREMELY rude short hispanic girl named Louisa. When I requested to sample the pulled pork, she shook her head at me and refused to give me a sample at first then gave me a cold sample rather than heating it up. I proceeded with the order (it was not pulled pork) and in the process I had to train her that 4 pieces of cheese go on a footlong not 3. Along with that extra slice of cheese, I got an attitude which I did not ask for.
In the second instance, my mother and I shared a footlong sandwich and made a special request to have it split down the middle before we added the veggies. Louisa completely ignored us and stared at us blankly as though she did not understand English. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, my mother spoke to her fluently in Spanish and she still ignored our request. Then she carried on with the veggies making our order the way she wanted to make it rather than how we wanted it made. Later on I asked to speak to the manager on duty and she responded with a thick accent «oh no, we don’t have a manager». Frustrated I moved on to ask the next server who informed me that there was no manager on duty and I could come back the next morning when the manager would be in.
I don’t usually make complaints publicly when it comes to poor customer service; however, these past few times really upset me. I’ve been going to this place for years with my family and now am tempted to pay the extra money at the Del Rey Deli further down the street than to deal with some disgruntle employee who could care less about doing her job right in the best interest of the paying customer.

I ate there today. My coworker chose the place. I chose a cheese steak sandwich. What I got was the most disgusting pile of crap I have ever put in my mouth. Gray, stale meat that was so dry I needed to guzzle water to choke it down. I had to buy another water at Home Depot to wash it down. How many times have they refrozen this? Thank god you only get a half ounce of it. It is literally a tablespoon full. Even the cheese had no taste at all. It was just petro-​cheese. It looked like cheese but in reality it was just tasteless goo. The bread was seemingly fresh but in somehow managed to not have so much as one molecule of water remaining in it. Quite a trick. I am serious, this is absolute GARBAGE. There is an AM/​PM just down the road. They have far better food and I mean it. I’ll stick to their corn dogs and tuna salad sandwiches next time. I will never eat at another Subway ever again. This was just revolting and it should be a crime to sell this stuff for money. My coworker said «complain and you get a coupon for a free one.» Swell, just what I want — more revolting crap. I am not a picky person at all. I install telephone systems and I wear a tool-​belt. All I wanted was a decent sandwich for lunch and what I got wasn’t fit for a starving dog. Seriously.

Ive eaten here in the past as i work up the street… one night my girlfriend has to use the bathroom, and we decided to go to the subway. we even asked if it was ok. as i recently am gluten free, i asked if they have the gluten free bread (as i heard some subways do have/​are testing) they didnt, so i didnt buy anything, then went to the bathroom as well as i thought it was a good idea while i was there. as we were walking out i got one of the dirtiest/​nasty looks by this mexican dude. it made me a little upset to be honest, and i know we didnt order anything but we both eat gluten free and cant, we just needed to use the restrooms that we asked to use! and we will never be going back and pick a different subway when we go out as co-​workers.

Its not like its bad food. In fact I like the breakfast sandwiches.
But hey it could be better.

I’ve gone several times and never had a problem. The staff are always nice and attentive unlike my experience with the Subway on Lincoln off Manchester.

Decent… they always get my order right (I guess that’s not always the case, judging by some reviews here).
Standardized Subway… you know the menu, you know whatcha gonna order…

I am really happy that this subway opened up. I live in Playa and it’s nice to have something convenient on those days that I just want to walk and have the urge for a sandwich. It is much like other Subways.
My rating is based more on the convenience factor of it being close. It is a sandwich shop after all and not Spagos. Therefore I don’t expect much in terms of supreme perfection. Yes, they do miss my order once in a while and sometimes I have to clarify. However this is rare and miraculously my sandwich is always made just they way I want it.

I’m really excited that this subway opened within walking distance from people who live in PDR. It is a very convenient location and the people who work here are really nice and listen to what you want. I’m not a frequent visitor of subway… but when I am its always this location because its the best in service and is walking distance! So if you’re in the mood for a 5 dolla foot-long…this is the place to drop the 5 dolla’s…

Today this location lost a loyal repeat customer, I will now go out of the way to another location. On the 4^th repeat of instructions not being followed, the employee not listening… I walked out.
I asked for a foot long flat bread, toasted bread only, tuna fish sandwich. I repeated 3 times, as he asked what I wanted and got the bread. Then he asked what kind of cheese. I said pepper jack. He put the cheese on the bread, & I repeated only the bread is to be toasted. He ignored me & stuck the bread, with cheese in the oven. Even the woman in front of me, turned to me shrugging her shoulders and saying what the?!! With that, I walked out disappointed with the service!

So… I’m not one to review a Subway. We know what it’s all about. However, I was surprised by the low rating, so I thought I’d chip in my two cents. I frequent this Subway since I’m a local. Sure, the service isn’t amazing, but they give me what. I don’t much like what I find elsewhere, I’ve been to a bunch of other Subways in the area that are far slower and have truly unresponsive workers. I find the speed at this location to be about right for Subway.
In sum, if you want a quick healthy-​ish bite and you’re in the area, do it.

2.5 stars. Not a bad place if you are looking for something relatively light and quick. I go for their cold, low-​fat sandwiches and avoid their cheese and condiments. This location is incredibly narrow so it is not that comfortable in line when it is busy (seating is limited as well). This is pretty much a to-​go only option.

Subway ticket.
This shop was OK. They moved suprisingly slowly considering how many people they had working the line. I didn’t have to wait toooooo long, but it seems quite inefficient.
Another challenge they have is that the actual inside is very narrow. Waiting in line to order can get quite crowded.
One thing they have that a lot of Westside Subways don’t: 3 outside patio tables. Nice!
Don’t half step. Sit outside and enjoy your sammie.

I’m fairly confident that the Unilocal crowd doesn’t need a review of Subway, as I am sure we have all been there and know what this chain is all about. I would simply like to dissuade you from succumbing to Jared and the Subway propoganda and offer other options for your consideration.
First of all, let me be clear that I have nothing against chain restaurants or assembly line food production. In N’ Out is a chain and who doesn’t love In N’ Out? [those of you with a dirty mind now know who you are] And as far as assembly lines go, I LIKE assembly lines. My car (and yours) was made on an assembly line. My Chipotle burrito is made on an assembly line and consequently that long line tends to move at a decent pace.
No, there is something far more sinister at work at Subway. To paraphrase an old lady from a certain popular fast food commercial circa 1984,
WHERE’S THE MEAT?
If aliens landed on Earth and were presented with a Subway turkey sandwich, they would come to the conclusion that the turkey was a condiment, or at best, an accoutrement, but hardly the main ingredient.
Not only that, but each of the meats is pre-​arranged in thin slivers wedged between waxed paper, so that Subway ensures that you receive only ¹⁄₈ inch* of turkey in that turkey sub.
* Estimate only, but it’s pretty damn skimpy.
If you are thinking of going to Subway, why not try one of these options:
— Togo’s: for about the same price, you will get roughly 4 times the (turkey/​roast beef/​chicken).
— Roll Inn (Westwood): See my review on this place. Cheaper than Subway and not shy with the protein.
— Bay Cities (Santa Monica): If you haven’t heard about the Godmother, then you need to.
— Hogan’s Heroes (Playa Del Rey): 7 of 8 reviews give it 5 stars. I will soon be making it 8 of 9.
Please, please don’t settle for Subway.
