For the Michigans accept no substitutes. Plus the diner grub is excellent… turkey club with gravy fries(if you don’t get gravy on fries in Canada or Northern NY it’s virtual sacrilege).

Excellent tuna salad sandwich. Friendly staff and decent bathroom. Would definitely come back if passing this way again.

Good casual dining in a comfortable location. Quick and easy access to the highway. Everyone’s food looked good — some ate breakfast at noon and others opted for lunch. My BLT was tasty but small with a side of cole slaw and a pickle. Fish and chips good but not hot For 6 people the tab came to $ 48 before tip.

I’d give this place 500⁄5 if I could! Absolutely loved it. The food was superb and super cheap too — this burger was the best I’d ever had, the seafood was plentiful and delicious… The service was incredibly fast, and everyone was super social and friendly! Overall a wonderful experience, definitely a favorite.

An absolute solid 4 stars and the rice pudding gets a 5 … but I digress a bit. A much-needed food break on the way back home from Quebec City, Gus’s didn’t disappoint. Great burgers, super fries, a to-die-for heated rice pudding with whipped cream and a super-friendly waitress who made great recommendations. When traveling across the border from Canada, this easy-going restaurant is a no-brainer, so glad we discovered it. Easy on and off access from 87 … can’t beat it. On a first trip, obviously can’t sample everything, but I can’t imagine everything not being real good.

With Plattsburgh being the«home of the Michigan» we had to check this out on our first trip to this part of the north country. We were greeted by cheerful staff who took our orders right away. We both got the Michigan red glazier platter with fries and macaroni salad/potato salad. Our table was well equipped with different kinds of Tabasco so that was nice. The Michigan is basically a chili dog with a red hot hotdog. It was tasty, and we got it with onions and mustard. The smoky Tabasco made it just perfect and the fries were really good. If you’re in town– check it out. This place has been around since 1951, which you kind of feel when you enter. Old school and cool!

I wasn’t planning to stop here, but a Gus of wind came out of nowhere(probably off Lake Champlain) and forced my car into the parking lot. And the rest is history. It’s on a major intersection where you turn off to get the ferry to Vermont. It’s on the North East side. It has pretty good hot dogs. A little pricy but definitely delicious. It’s been awhile since I was up in these parts so I can’t give it a 5 star without trying it again, but I definitely remember them being very good. Also, funnily enough, I think I’ve seen this place on some sort of food network show since then. I didn’t know it was famous when I stopped here. It was just random, kind of like most of the sex I have.

Right outside the border on the American side. Very friendly waitstaff but the food is pretty average if you ask me. I had a mushroom swiss burger which was okay, so were the sides of fries and coleslaw.

Great place to grab lunch. The hotdogs are the best around. I have been here a bunch of times. If my eyes are bigger then my stomach they always wrap my extra dog up nice to go. Best part is winter time when they get the local perch in. I ice fish myself but I’d rather buy it here then filet and cook it myself.

I ate here with a group of 6. Service was as diner service should be. Upon paying the bill one of our party(the only black guy in our group) was given 10.00 short of his change, as he had given a 20. When he alerted our waitress to this she acknowledged and left the table. After waiting for 5 minutes and not getting the change, I decided to take initiative and approached the waitress and reiterated what my friend had said about needing 10.00 dollars back for his 20. Her response was that he was lying and had only given her 10. I was pretty surprised that a waitress would accuse a friend of mine of lying. After a minute or two of conversation, even with my friend himself ‘pleading his innocence’ we couldn’t convince her or the manager that my friend had given a 20. Up until this point we were treated nicely but when it came to the discrepancy in change they were pretty harsh about asserting that our friend was a liar. I’m not calling them racist, but these were the facts. Even if this were me, It’s pretty messed up and bad customer relations. I wouldn’t recommend it. Sorry this had to happen.

I drive by here a lot so I had to give it a try. Typical dinner atmosphere, I always feel better when I can see the guy cooking my food! I had two red hots and a Pepsi. It is what I have known as a chile dog. The meet was a little bland for me I expected spicy. I added some Tabasco that is located at each table and enjoyed the meal. The bun was warm soft and the dog was good. All and all the meal was good.

Forget the hot dogs(which are great, btw): the french fries are through the roof. Insane.

It’s a hot dog place in Plattsburgh so my expectations weren’t high. Surprisingly, though, I loved it. I wasn’t very hungry so I opted for the salad. Wow! Very fresh with more than just lettuce & carrots. Nice selection of dressings, too. My husband had the hot dogs and loved them. He had been here with my dad a while back and wanted to go again. If you’re in the area, stop by. The menu offers tons more than salads and hot dogs. The décor is very«diner» — perfect!

Gus’s is great. The Michigan’s will save you a trip for a local pharmacy for laxatives. Food taste great going down, but shortly after you leave this place you feel a regret in your stomach just like you did the morning after prom as a highschooler. After 30 minutes of gut twisting discomfort, the greasy taste of the food will remind you that it’s not out of your body yet. Fast forward to the next morning and it looks like you’ve got another serving of Michigan sauce in your toilet bowl. A disclaimer singing over your intestines to the devil and free bottle of toilet bowl cleaner would give patrons a reason to return.

Sloppy ecstasy. I am going to rate this entire restaurant on one single thing… The REDHOT. I have been craving it for 25 years. I have skipped high school dozens of times to drive from Montréal to Plattsburgh to eat this thing, and this thing only. I have no idea what else they serve, and quite frankly I couldn’t care less. If you plan on going here and eating anything else other than a REDHOT this review is not for you, and my five star rating will not be applicable. PS: somehow they have remained incredibly consistent. It’s always the same, and that is truly the mark of a well-established restaurant.

Spent some time in Plattsburgh this year. Wanted to visit some friends and to reminisce. Had to stop at Gus’ for my Michigan fix. Some things here just never change and that’s such a great thing !!! The Michigan was just like it was when I was a kid growing up in Plattsburgh. The place has been updated from the 1960s. Very clean, friendly and warm. If you’re going by, stop in for a meal. It’s well worth it.

It had been a while since I had some good dogs, and these«red hots» hit the spot. $ 2.50, + a little supplement for having it with its natural casing, was cheap. The chili was good without overpowering, the hotdog had a great snap and a deep flavor. The bun was there just for form, and that’s OK. Service was excellent(quick and friendly) and we left happy. P. S. They do sell their dogs all day… I had mine at 8AM after crossing the Canadian border. A perfect pitstop if you’ve spent too much time at customs. They are just a few miles/km in!

Tried Gus’ Michigans less than 30 minutes after eating a couple at Clare & Carl’s(C&C) on the other side of Plattsburgh(see my review). Gus’ dogs cost $ 2.50; $ 0.70 more than Clare & Carl’s. If you want to substitute the standard hot dog with Glazier red hot dog, that will be $ 3.00, please; a full $ 1.20 more than C&C’s. Gus’ is a run of the mill Formica diner. It looked clean but lacked character. Have to give it to C&C on appearances, too. I know you can’t eat atmosphere, so on to the food, starting with the sauce. Gus’ sauce looked a lot like C&C’s; a granular meat sauce. However, Gus’ doesn’t have the aromatics of C&C’s, and that played out in the taste which was missing the zing of C&C’s. Gus’ plain dog was the same as C&C’s — a straight forward, boiled dog with very little seasoning. I also had the vaunted Glazier’s red hot dog. While I liked the snap, the flavor wasn’t much better than the standard Gus’ hot dog. The roll was not moist and warm. If it was steamed at all, it sat for awhile before it was served to me. Winner on taste is C&C’s. Next time I’m in Plattsburgh I’ll try Ronnie’s and McSweeney’s, too. Let me know what you think of this review by clicking the appropriate button below. Thanks.
