You had to pay for the tasting which is totally fine but the samples of the wine were so tiny! I ended up purchasing a glass because the sample just wasn’t enough. Their bread and butter was really good but you had to pay for that too, not majorly pricey or anything but they like to charge for every little thing. We didn’t buy a bottle here, the wines were just alright.

What a difference a year makes! Love the expanded tasting area indoors. Lots of fun when they have live music. They make sure everyone has a great time! Lots of seating but if you go for the band and bonfire and go late, you might want to bring some chairs. This is popular with members and non-members alike so it can get crowded.

The best wine tour I have ever been on and I have been to Napa Valley. Colleen one of the owners does the wine tasting and tour of the vineyard herself and does an excellent job explaining the wine making process. A very homey atmosphere! Great place to spend a Sunday afternoon!

This was a really cool place and I wanted to like this place a lot more than I did. They pride themselves on being Missouri’s first«green» winery, which is so interesting. They have sheep for mowing and chickens for pest control and the hippie in my just really dug that. But I felt a little rushed during the wine tasting – maybe it was because there were two groups doing two different kinds of tastings, maybe it was because my family is a bit rowdy and we overwhelmed the server. I enjoyed several of the wines but didn’t fall in love with any. The Traminette and the Vignoles were both decent. I enjoyed the label design and the aesthetic of this place. Definitely worth visiting if only for the novelty. A far cry from its sister winery, Weston Wine Company.

We are new to Missouri and found a groupon for Jowler Creek. We bought the groupon for a food pairing and tour. We loved our experience. The tour included going out into the vineyard and seeing the chickens who keep away pest and feeding the«mowing» sheep. The afternoon was lead by one of the owners. He was very informative, kept things light, and answered all the questions people had. The wine was awesome too! We ended up with three bottles and learned a lot along the way! They also have a list of events that happen at the winery all year around. We look forward to going back again!

More like a 3.5. Can’t give a 4 because it was a little pricey for what we got. Did the girls night«bedazzle a bottle» last night. It was a really fun idea. Wine tasting included. They were pretty skimpy on the pour, only got one sip of each one. Having just come from another tasting where the pour was a good 3 – 5 oz, this was disappointing. If I could’ve gotten a little more to sip on and fully taste, I would’ve bought more than one bottle. I would definitely go back if it wasnt so far out of the city. Will go to my local store that carries it though for sure.

What a treat! Went with a friend for the tank testing but instead did the free testing and bought 2 bottles, a port and vignol. The woman pouring the tasting was very informative and nice. After the purchase she asked if we wanted to have our drinks there. Unfortunately it was much too cold out to enjoy our purchase, which only gives us an excuse to go back again. On the way out witnessed three sheep«mowing»…adorable and sustainable!

Jowler Creek is one of my favorite Missouri wineries. They allow sheep to weed around their vines, which I love, and which is a great illustration of the casual and fun attitude they take towards their wines. It shows in the names of the wines as well — most are named after animals with sweet illustrations on the labels. Like most of the local wineries, their wines run a good gamut from sweet to dry. The owners are very cool and informative during the tastings. I’ve only ever done a tasting, but they have a nice seating area that you can take some wine to, and they also sell beer if you have people in your party who are not wine fans. It’s a little out of the way from the standard Weston path, but worth the side trip.

We arrived at Jowler Creek on Grape Stomp day, which would’ve been fun to watch, but we chose the free tasting instead. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about how the wines are made. Jowler Creek is very dedicated to sustainable viticulture, and the gift shop has some adorable pictures of the animals that help to pollinate and control pests(check the sheep that looks like a teddy bear!). I came away with a bottle of «Nort»(fortified Norton wine, only Portuguese wine is Port) that I can’t wait to open with some dark chocolate on a frigid winter afternoon while the snow comes down. There were a couple of other wines I liked, and my friend and I promised ourselves a trip up here closer to the holidays get some gifts at the case discount.

The owners of the winery are super nice. They started the winery in their basement and have built a tasting room. They are trying to be green and it’s great to see all the sheep, bats, chickens, solar panels, etc to use as little energy and as natural as possible. Their wines are superb. Today I even got a travel pack(picnic style) with the port wine and their new Muskrato de Missouri. All of their wines are fantastic and I look forward to coming back soon!

Went to a wine tour here. LOVED the tour and seeing the sheep that«mow» the grass underneath the vines, as well as hearing their story and getting to see the grapevines up close. After that, I was excited to taste their wines. Sadly to say, I wasn’t too impressed. Usually I’m not a picky wine drinker, but all of these(except for their new muskrat moscato) were just so-so. I am so glad they are promoting sustainable growing and business practices, but the wine just wasn’t for me. :)

We had been out wine tasting all day and this was our last stop. 8 of us went in the tiny but nice tasting room. I looked at their list of wines and noticed most were Norton wines and I am not a huge Norton fan. It was hot inside so hubby and I decided to skip the tasting and go outside and wait for our friends. We then became cold and went back inside and sat down. One of my friends was standing next to me and I was taking sips out of her glass and decided I was wrong to judge the winery on a list of wines alone. I ended up really liking two of the wines and bought them. The first was a semi-sweet blush and the second was a semi-sweet red called Cock-a-doodle-doo. The name alone made me fall in love with it. I was most impressed the gentleman that did our tasting for us. He was young but very knowledgable about their wines and was so nice. He was even telling other people that were there tasting of the other local wineries. Some of the other wineries look down on that which I think is ridiculous. I loved the fact that he was telling people to try all the local wineries. We will go back here for sure because of the hosiptality and the wine.

The port($ 14.99/ 375mL) was notable with a rich flavor definitely highlighted by chocolate. They had mostly sweeter wines with the Critter Cuvee being a favorite. Great bar made out of unfinished wood. They have a nice picnic area with a good view of the sloping vineyard behind their family home. It is a bit of a drive, but if you are touring the local wineries anyways, it’s definitely worth a stop. The owner was very friendly and gave us a great lunch tip for a diner in Dearborn.

As a native Pacific Northwestern girl, I love checking out wineries in new cities. Missouri has proven to be full of little jewels, like Jowler Creek Winery. My favorite wineries to visit are those that our locally and family owned. Jowler Creek fits that bill! The tasting was led by the owners and was simple and nice full of knowledge on the area grapes, wineries and events. I took my mom on a Kansas City wine tour while she was visiting in August of this year. We had a great time talking to the others that stopped by and enjoying the wines. Make sure to check out their great events on their website as well. I haven’t had the chance to go back for any of their events, but plan on making it happen in the near future. I strongly suggest stopping by for an afternoon adventure. Jowler Creek is a short drive to neighboring Weston where you can find Pirtle Winery and Weston Brewing Company. The 30 minute drive North of Kansas City is well worth it!

I love Jowler Creek Winery, both the wines themselves and the experience in visiting. By way of background, I’ve been watching this winery grow/expand for the past five years, and it just keeps getting better. I’ll talk about the wine first. The owners of the place are a youngish couple who produced their first wine for sale five or six years ago(from grapes grown in the vineyard surrounding their house). The thing that amazed me at the time was that they produced very good wines right from the beginning. Good quality wines that easily can compete with wines of similar prices from other regions and countries(and with many more expensive wines as well). Since that time, their wines have only gotten better. At the last tasting that I went to, the Norton and Chambourcin(two Missouri varietals that I’ve found lacking at just about every other winery) were truly delicious, and noticeably inexpensive for the quality. The whites are also excellent, the most recent vintage of Vignoles in particular. And Jowler Creek makes wines for all tastes, from the rich, heady, drier reds to crisp, dry whites, to semi-dry/semi-sweet offerings, to sweeter types.(I am not a sweet wine fan at all, in general, but the sweet ones here are nicely balanced.) Anyone who likes wine will find something to suit his taste. The wines are sold at many local stores, as well as at the winery itself. On to the winery. As mentioned, the owners live on a piece of property(in Platte County) and grow all grapes for their wines in the hills around their house(except for the Concord grapes for the sweetest wine). They recently built a beautiful outbuilding that holds both a tasting room and the wine production facility.(Before this building existed, tasting occurred in the basement of the house, which was a little awkward.) Tastings are free. Outside the little outbuilding, the lawn has been terraced and landscaped, with umbrella-shaded picnic tables available for use. It is great fun to do a tasting, buy a bottle of wine, and drink it at one of the tables surrounded by the vineyard and the forest beyond, while munching on whatever picnic items you’ve brought along. A great way to spend a lovely weekend afternoon. And, in a stroke of near-genius, there is also a keg of local beer on tap, so if one half of a couple, or a member of a group, is not a big wine fan, a frosty pint or two is available. Doesn’t get much better than that. Reading back over this review, I feel I should make clear that I am in no way associated with the winery or its owners. I am simply a happy patron who is thrilled that a local couple has created such a great business and experience in the Kansas City metro area.

We have been trying to try all the wineries of Missouri. We decided to try Jowler”s Creek. They were having their new release of chambourcin. all their wines were tasty. We bought the Norton, Traminette and drank some Blush. then bought Critter’s Cuvee’ to also take home. The owner was attentive, explained not only the wine but how the entire operation came to pass.– they even offered free tidbits of sausage, dates, chocolate, etc to go with the free tasting. we plan to return in the spring so we can sit outside and enjoy sipping. and of course, pet Merlot, their dog…

I’m not sure how I got so lost, but after turning onto a dirt road, I found this vineyard and winery. The sign said, «wine tasting in back.» It was indeed in back of their home, in the basement. A new winery building is currently under construction. Truly a mom-and-pop operation, co-owner/husband Jason Gerke came into the shop with a baby. I started to explain that I’m not a wine person, but that I was lost and saw their sign, so thought I’d stop by. He said that it was fine because he had work to do, and he could just as well direct me back to the interstate. That’s not what I intended at all, and I found it a bit off-putting. Nevertheless, I did try some wine. I thought the Norton was the best – it’s apparently a Missouri-bred grape, which makes a good red. I bought one for my SO. She liked it.
