The Lasik Vision Institute

So this Lasik Vision Institute in Plantation, FL just lost their Optometrist that worked in this office… AND, they now have another new manager and new staff. There’s a reason this place cannot keep people. They lie to patients and put them at serious risk of having major post op issues.
SHUT THIS SCAM DOWN!!!

Yikes! RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION IF YOU CARE ABOUR YOUR EYES. This place does not care about the health of your eyes! Its very sales driven and they will say anything including giving you wrong information about your eye health to make you book! They will tell you how you need to book surgery NOW to get special deal for this week/​this month only even though they always have groupon and «sales»! I took my mom there for a consultation. The patient counselor told my mom that she is a great candidate even though she had cataract and dry eyes. I took my mom for a second consultation with her regular Opthalmologist, who was shocked to hear this! I was speaking to a colleague at my office about this experience and she told she had Lasik with this company and had horrible experience. They sold her «lifetime package» but after the surgery when she didn’t have good result they couldn’t help her!!. She said every-​time she goes there, its new office staff and new managers who gives her the run around with different information. This place is a ZOO! Avoid at all cost. I know they spam your email and constantly send out groupons for great deals but do you really want to subject your ONLY pair of eyes to have surgery at ta shady place? Their sale tactics for a health facility is sickening. They still keep calling us and emailing us! I will be writing a letter to BBB and American Ophthalmology department, because this place needs to be SHUT DOWN for their unethical business practice! AVOID AT ALL COST!

I actually have never written a review for any product or service but my experience at the Lasik Vision Institute was bad enough that I thought a review was warranted.
The first step before you get Lasik is to do the preoperative evaluation. All seemed fine during the process of evaluation to see if I was a candidate for Lasik. However, it was the end of the work day for the people working there and the only explanation of the surgery I got was from my own research online and from a video which said the procedure is «painless,» that there is «practically no recovery time,» and that I would be able to go to work the next day.“
Well, when I showed up for the scheduled procedure on a Saturday, I was suddenly told that I was getting PRK, a procedure which is very painful with at least a 3 – 4 day recovery time. PRK is for people with thin corneas or who may get hit in the face (boxers, etc.)
I was completely thrown off guard that I wasn’t getting Lasik. I had already arranged rides for that day (there and back) and anticipated having the procedure before I took a skiing trip 10 days later. I also had not planned for having the following Monday — Wednesday off. When I asked why I was not told this ahead of time they said «Well, sometimes we don’t determine that it is required until the night before.» I asked, «Is this normal practice?» and they just kind of shrugged.
Then I asked if I would get Valium to ease the stress of the surgery (common practice) and they said, «We don’t administer that here. You have to fill your prescription at a pharmacy. Didn’t you fill your prescription?» WHAT PRESCRIPTION? They never gave me one. I only got my prescriptions AFTER surgery.
Next, they re-​evaluated my eyes using machines and I thought they were going to push me into Lasik for the sake of already having me there (I would have left should they have changed my diagnosis at this point). Luckily they did not change the diagnosis (after 4 hours of pre-​operative evaluations). They said that I did still, in fact, need to get PRK.
At this point I felt pressured. I had to decide what the heck to do because I hadn’t planned time off work. I had to call my employer on a Saturday which isn’t even a work day and ask for the following Monday — Wednesday off (after I had just taken a bunch of other time off for the holidays.) Luckily, she was ok with me taking the time off.
Then, I was drilling the technicians with questions trying to figure out what was about to happen and what to expect for recovery. I asked if I would be ok to go skiing in ten days and they replied, «Why didn’t you tell us you were going skiing in ten days.» I replied, «BECAUSE I WAS EXPECTING LASIK. I thought I was going to be fine the next day.»
Next was the post-​operative follow-​up. I was scheduled for a Wednesday at 5:30 and asked my manager to leave work about 20-​minutes early that day so I could make it in time. I drove about 20 miles to my appointment only for them to tell me I wasn’t on the calendar when I got there. So we rescheduled…
Then…I show up for the RESCHEDULED appointment and was told they tried to call me and that the appointment was cancelled. I had no missed calls on my phone and apparently the wrong number was called.
In summary, I don’t normally lose my cool but lost it a couple times during this whole process. Feeling rushed and pushed to get a surgery that is painful and a bit scary is not a comfortable spot to be in and I would not recommend going here to get any procedure done.
The staff were pretty nice people — just handled things very unprofessionally. Apparently there was a recent change in staff but that’s no excuse to leave a patient completely in the dark.

Did I mention that, when signing up for their credit program, I SPECIFICALLY asked «I will be able to pay off the amount on my Care Credit when I am able, right? Just so long as I pay it under the two-​year timeframe? There is no monthly obligation, correct?» They replied, «Oh no. You can pay it when you are able.»
Well, I just got a bill with a monthly amount due January 16. Of course they were sketchy to get the sale. WORST PLACE EVER.

I had both my eyes done here and I was pretty pleased. The procedure was kind of scary but, once you get it over with it isn“t so bad. Staff was nice and they seem to know what they are doing. I would recomend.
