Who would have thought that a restaurant as good as Four Roses would be in Plainwell, MI! It’s Plainwell’s best kept secret! I have gone here a number of times and not once have I ever had a dish I didn’t like.

Pros: Outstanding food in every category — apps, entrees and deserts. Great service, excellent beer selection and generally, very nice people running the place. Cons: A little bit out of the way(but worth the drive) and an atmosphere that struggles to keep up with the quality of food/drink/service. Dined at Four Roses Café for the first time last night and was blown away by the quality of the food and the imagination of the menu. You can try to save room for desert but it is difficult since the apps and entrees are so tasty and ample. Nearly everyone will leave with a doggy bag. Will be back for sure when in the area.

Great food and service, had the filet mignon that was excellent, and a chocolate dessert to die for.

This place is FANTASTIC! Fine dinning with a casual atmosphere. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and I am picky about my steaks. The dessert menu is to die for. You will definitely find something you like. I went on New Year’s eve. and it was busy but I used the no wait app to make our reservation and was able to get there just before our table was ready. It was great! I will definitely be back there is more food to try that looks delicious. Well done Four Roses!!!

Found Four Roses by accident and am sure glad we did. Split a great steak the first time out along with the grilled romaine salad. Unique, clever, and tasty describe this place. Always, always, always leave room for dessert. Haven’t had a disappointment ever. I love the braised beef and my wife loves the peppercorn butter sirloin. As a great option, dine at the bar. Sparkling conversation to go with great eats!

All good but avoid Thursday evenings, guy on electric piano singing 60’s stuff at top volume. Would be ok but place is too small for 110 decibels. But if you like stress with your beer or don’t have anything to talk to your table about its fine I suppose.

Awesome venue, off the beaten path. Would have never found this place without Unilocal. My wife got the filet mignon and I got the chili rubbed flank steak. Both were awesome and if there was a little less fat in the flank steak this is a 5 star review. The service was fantastic too!

We went here to celebrate a Birthday. The staff were very friendly and we were seated quickly. Unfortunately they only had one vegetarian option, pasta with Alfredo sauce. It was over eighty degrees outside so I ordered the trout. It was cooked well but came with Jasmine rice that was chewy My dinner companion had chicken with a cherry Cumberland sauce, it was excellent and the glass of wine that was recommended with his dinner was also well received. We will have to return to try their extensive dessert menu and hope they have more options for vegetarians.

Great choice for a local restaurant with quality menu items that are prepared fresh and with thought. I’ve never had a bad meal here and the appetizers and desserts as well as drinks are top-quality. Plainwell is well deserving of this restaurant that could be Grand Rapids caliber.

Everything about our experience at Four Roses last night was wonderful. From the moment we sat down, I knew it was going to be a great night. Our server Jamie was hands down one of the best servers I’ve ever had. She was welcoming and excited to answer all of the many questions we had throughout the evening. Jamie paced out our dining experience perfectly. She was knowledgeable about the menu and craft beers and let us taste a few beers to make sure we liked what we were ordering. Now let’s talk about the food… The warm homemade rolls to start were delicious. We always order the calamari at every restaurant we dine at to compare it against all the others. The calamari at Four Roses is top 3 of anywhere we have ordered it. Lightly battered and the dipping sauce had a friendly kick to it. Our entrées were amazing. I had that blue marlin which was cooked perfectly and served with flavorful rice and sautéed summer veggies. My boyfriend had the filet which was also cooked to perfection. It was served with the same veggies and roasted potatoes. It was my first time having blue marlin and based on what I was served last night, it will be one of my top choices moving forward. Now let’s talk about dessert. First of all, the number of options was awesomely overwhelming. It was extremely difficult to choose just one but we agreed on the baked apple with caramel sauce and homemade whipped cream. It was one of the greatest things we have ever eaten. Everything about Four Roses was perfect. I can’t wait to go back!

It was a bitterly cold night but I trekked out here anyway. It was worth every minute in the cold. The maple mustard ribs are incredible. Moist, tender and so tasty. The balance between the maple and the mustard is perfect. Neither overpowers the other. The presentation was equally impressive. Served with an assortment of roasted vegetable. I dipped them in the sauce as well. They make a lemon honey vinaigrette which is quite tasty as well. The assortment of desserts was quite extensive. They all looked fabulous. From what I could see they are also incredibly popular. Even if the patrons don’t eat them in the restaurant, there were a lot of them going out the door with the diners. The baked apple in pastry with caramel sauce was my choice because I’m avoiding large amounts of gluten. Yep, I left the beautiful pastry behind. If I’d really wanted to indulce I would have tried one of the cakes. There was one with citrus frosting and another with cranberry orange frosting that was very tempting. It was tough leaving the warmth of the restaurant to brave the cold but I leave incredibly stuffed and satisfied.

Four of us went for dinner. Three had steaks, one came out rare but they fixed it after a bit of a wait. One person had seafood paella, it was good. Deserts were very large and good.

One of the best restaurants in SW Michigan. The maple mustard ribs are the most flavorful and savory baby back ribs I’ve ever had. The menu changes daily, but there are some signature dishes that are available every day. I think their sauces are what really what make these dishes so delectable. Try either the tenderloin tips or NY strip with béarnaise sauce or the peppercorn butter. I have Celiac Disease so the Whitefish Grenoble and Bell’s Braised Beef aren’t an option for me, but friends that have had those dishes absolutely loved them.

Well worth the drive! We live about 30 minutes from Four Roses, which if you live in a big city its no big deal but for us, it kind of is :) This place is totally worth it! Their house salad is one of my top 3 favorite salads ever. It has this delicious herbed cheese with pears and Greens and a perfect vinaigrette. Our party of four were very happy with our entrées and the sides were not just afterthoughts. The pumpkin cheesecake was glorious.

Four Roses is owned and operated by a chef who formally worked at Aries, a classic Plainwell restaurant that has long since closed. This is one of the restaurant’s best features; it is one of the only places with a real chef in the area. Portions are generous and well-seasoned. Each day, new specials are made to order, so the menu changes substantially from day-to-day. Desserts are also very tasty and change daily. The restaurant also features a bar and a huge selection of craft beers, wines, and liquors. Service is excellent and prompt. However, parking is limited so be prepared to have to park along the road or on the grass. Make sure that you do not park in the lot for the adjacent restaurant immediately to the north, because you might be towed.
