J Timothy’s never disappoints… the food is always great and the wait staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. You can always expect generous portions and healthy options as well. J Timothy’s offers a cozy and quaint atmosphere. This is a restaurant that has been in the business for many years and one can understand why!

Like most 40 y/o males who like watching football and drinking beers, I love wings. I live 30 mins from JTs but had never been there. Place was packed on Sunday for lunch, but we were seated right away. Waitress was at our table immediately for our drink order. Beers got there in 2 mins then we ordered. Salad and wings were there in less than 10. You cannot get better service then that. Wings lived up to the hype as best in CT. Cooked perfectly and sauce was excellent.(If you like spicier wings, ask for additional sauce). I ate 20 and was disappointed I didn’t order a bucket. Salad was even good for those ladies who do not like wings.

Fantastic wings!!! Good beer selection… but really bad service. Ive been quite a few times and that sums up all the visits. I’ll keep coming back for the wings. Only place close is pour house and sliders for wings.

First time here, heard good things. Ordered a bucket of sweet red chili & honey bbq, both dirt style(to go). They were both delicious; the sweet red chili was the winner. Wings were saucy & crunchy, will definitely be back to eat in.

So… wings from a freezer bag, and sauce from a jar = «best wing joint»? I’m not going to say the wings are bad — they’re fine. But that’s about all there is to say: they’re fine. The nachos, OTOH, suck. You can’t give me a plate of chips with some cheese on the top and call it nachos. That’s cheap and lazy. Give me layers. Give me more ingredients than just chips and cheese. Pretend you’re trying here. I haven’t got as far as trying an entre yet. But if that’s all you can do with nachos and wings, I’m not willing to gamble the $ 27 for a steak. That said: atmosphere is great. Service is very friendly. Beer selection is alright. Looking to get a few beers and half-assed appetizers — go for it! Drinks after work, or before you go out — great. Looking to book a private event with a bar and servers — pretty good spot for it. Looking for the best wings? Whatever. Overall, a solid meh.

Best place for wings that I have found in Connecticut. The sweet red chili wings are my personal favorite. Get any flavor dirt style, double fried, you won’t regret it. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy. Love the old, historic photos all over. The place is quite large, but be sure to get there early on the weekends, they get very busy.

Excellent place for wings and beer(I’ve never had anything else off the menu) Go with the Dirt wings. Double fried and I’ve never seen them elsewhere.

Went to j Timothy and the bidwell in the same week to do a wing comparison. While the bidwell might have 20+ flavored, think I have to give the thumbs up on the wings and the price of the beers to j Timothy’s if you can get a parking spot ;)

J. Timothy’s is more than just a restaurant; it’s where my sweetheart and I can come and always know we are going to have great food, great drinks, and a wonderful atmosphere. How is it that every time we come back, it just gets better and better? Would recommend: Dirty wings(either buffalo or honey bbq) Frozen strawberry margarita New York Strip Sirloin House salad with ranch dressing West Coast Turkey Club Chicken black bean burger Fish and chips I would probably recommend everything else on the menu, I just haven’t had a chance to try all of them yet! I have spent many fun nights here and will continue to come back again and again :)

Great food, my brother my mom and I for dinner we order a single order of wings(10 pieces) buffalo flavor a little over fried but was good. Mom ordered Half rack of ribs with vegetables and mash potatoes that she liked it. Brother ordered French dip sandwich that comes with French fries; and I ordered 14oz prime rib of beef cooked medium with French fries and vegetables that was huge and delicious. Very comfortable ambiance and service was great. Also they have a huge drinks menu, brother choose to try to different draft beers.

Wings, wings and more wings! This is what I dream of during football season and of course the Packers winning the super bowl! Anyways, the wings are amazing and I like that there are only 4 – 5 sauce choices. It can be overwhelming when you have 30+ choices like other restaurants. You have to get the wings«dirt style» which are fried, tossed in sauce, fried again and then sauced a second time… pure heaven! We tried the original buffalo because you just have to and the sweet chili. Sweet chili were my favorite — super saucy, just the way I like it. The restaurant was packed for a Sunday afternoon! There is a bar area with a few tables but we opted to go upstairs in their«seat yourself» section which also had a few tvs to catch the games. Ambiance is darker, pub like décor and loud but fun! Our waitress wasn’t overly welcoming but I think it was because she partied a little too hard the night before or maybe it’s because smiling to strangers is not a New England pastime. Definitely will come back to this place but wished it was a tad closer to my West Hartford hood!

Best chicken wings in CT? I don’t know if I would say that, but they were pretty good. I ordered the original buffalo dirt style wings and they were nice and crispy and dripping in sauce. I’m usually not a huge fan of buffalo sauce but I figured I would go for the original style my first time here. Maybe that’s why I didn’t fall head over heels in love with them, but I’m excited to try the bbq flavor next time I return. We also decided to order the Irish nachos which were nice and crispy and the garlic bread with gorgonzola fondue. This was really tasty and I wish I had room for more! Feeling like I needed something sweet, I got the brownie sundae for dessert. This was nothing out of the ordinary, and honestly the brownie was a little dry. Overall, cool atmosphere and great bar so I’ll definitely be back. However, parking on a Thursday around 5 was an absolute nightmare. I had to drive around 4 or 5 times till a few people left the restaurant. So arrive early!

Willing to give this place another shot. The Chicken Tostada Salad lacked salad dressing, the chicken was dry, and for the amount given, the portion of beans and corn were too small. Also had a burger that was on their menu special, it was missing the wow factor. I believe the burger patty itself also lacked seasoning itself. The burger relied heavily on the Sriracha jalapeño sauce that topped the patty off. I usually eat the dirt wings whenever I come here which are very good! But the other foods on the menu so far aren’t cutting it. I’ll try several more items before making my final judgement. Our server was very kind though so that’s a plus.

Wife and I visit for Wednesday lunch. Seated promptly. Our server was attentive and professional. Our meals, french onion soup and fried calamari for me and shepherd’s pie for wife. Multi grain bread and honey flavored butter was served in a timely fashion. The bread was fresh and the flavored butter was delish. Onion soup was served. It was good but had a bit too much melted cheese(if that’s possible). Main meals served, again in a timely manner. My calamari had enough hot peppers to have a bit of pepper and calamari for each bite. I like that. Delish. Of course I tasted my wife’s dish and it was good too. My wife commented that her dish was heavy on the mashed potatoes and did not have enough meat or corn. But she liked the taste. Throughout the meal our waitress checked on us every so often and attended to what we requested. Perfect. Bottom line is this place serves good food, offers an interesting atmosphere, service is friendly and attentive. Cost for the whole experience is a bit steep though. I expect this price level at dinner but not for a lunch visit. Hence(4) versus a(5) star rating. Enjoy!

This place is always, I mean always hopping. But it’s also HUGE. Very cozy, no matter what room they seat you in. I will start by saying the table we sat at was wobbly. That is a job for the manager to fix and has nothing to do with the food so it has no affect on this review but I recommend if you’re running a restaraunt to notice things like that because a wobbly table will annoy some people to the point of insanity. ijs We started with drinks. I had a few Purple Hazes and omgosh so wonderful! A great boozy sweet drink. The grape sugar they use on the rim of the glass tasted like jello which I absolutley loved. My guy had the Schneider Weisse Original, which he enjoyed and had a few of. We ordered the Irish nachos, which even for two people is A LOT, you will be bringing some home or not having room for dinner :). This isn’t a complaint just a warning. The Irish nachos were very yummy, lots of melted gorgonzola cheese and then gorgonzola fondue to dip it in. Yes, not for you if you’re loctose intolerant, you can give me the portion you won’t be eating. They aren’t stingy with the bacon either, perfect amount of red onion and tomato as well. I did hold the jalapenos because I’m not a fan of heat. I’m sure if we had them on there they would also be the perfect amount. I had the New England Clam Chowder, it was uniform and nothing different really but a solid chowder all around. He had the Cheddar Ale soup and enjoyed it. The Ale wasn’t too overpowering in his soup which can happen at times. Not here though. I had the New York strip medium rare. The meat had a good carmelization on it, my steak was a little bit over medium rare but not too much so I didn’t bother saying anything. It was delicious, the plate comes with onion straws and veggies which were very good. He had the Boneless beef short ribs, I had a bite. I’m order that next time. The burgandy demiglaze was just delicious. Mashed potatoes were the perfect amount of garlicky. Just all-around delicious. We had leftovers(see Irish Nachos) but got desert to go. The Strawberry Ricotta Cake went home with us and was perfect when we woke up around 2 am :) Service was good.

Myself and the wife were in the Hartford, CT area a few weeks ago and we decided to take the handful of free hours we had before a friends wedding to put together a little wing magic. Wing magic is when the wings are so good that if you chew into the wing and accidentally chip your tooth on the bone and have to go to the hospital it is still worth it. I’ve climbed mountains and cliffs that have led to some of the greatest views I have ever seen and I’ve climbed other mountains that led me to Shao Khan in Mortal Kombat, but this is the finest yet. J. Timothy’s is the originator of the dirt wing which means that wings are sauced, fried and sauced again, for a caramelized crispier wing. We went with a 10 piece of original buffalo and another 10 piece of honey gold BBQ. These could be the best wings I have ever had and I may have partially booked a business trip to Hartford next month to get in round 2 with these cluck clucks. I’m not sure if the rest of the menu is relevant, but it all looked great. Plus the tavern is old, rustic and cozy, a good date spot. Just a killer combination and I’ll be sure to visit again if I find myself in the area.

Wings wings wings! Dirt wings are so crispy and good– it’s a difficult choice between buffalo and his new bbq. The burger has a classic charcoal grilled flavor. The atmosphere is so cozy and very traditional colonial décor with antiques as it’s a genuine old carriage house. Love the bar area! Always expect a wait– plan ahead!

Wow, I am seriously blown away by this cozy-yet-large, historic tavern. Their wings are truly amazing. I couldn’t decide what I liked most between the sweet chili, honey bbq, or original buffalo. Their«dirt style,» where the wings are sauced and fried two times to get extra scrumptious wings. I also got to try their butternut squash and gorgonzola garlic bread, which were delicious. Beer list was solid. I got the Dogfish Punkin($ 6 for 19 ounce pour — gotta love the traditional glasses), though they also had some great Relic beers on tap, too. I also got to try the buffalo mac and cheese and pork with potatoes and greens. They were both really rich but not over powering and wonderfully seasoned without being too over the top. I would love to eat both dishes again! Nicki, one of the managers, and Mallory, one of the servers, were particularly awesome, but really, all the wait staff were nice and did their jobs well. I only have great things to say about this place. I look forward to the next opportunity there is to return.

Dirty wings. I wouldn’t even read any more. I’d just go and get into your car and drive to here and eat all the wings and do this right now because anything else you do will be a let down. What? You want to keep reading. Ok… So J Timothy’s is amazing. It’s an old, old, ridiculously old school feeling place from the moment you walk in, and that just ads to the charm. Everything is made of wood, from the tables to the floor. And the service is just so nice, with happy servers who check on you and generally make you feel like you belong there. But the real reason to come is the Wings, which are friend, sauces and fried again. And every one we tried was so good, it made me so happy. Oh all the hapiness! I wish I could go back and eat these wings again. What are you waiting for, go!
