This is definitely geared towards tourists. However, unlike many tourist traps, this one is actually worth checking out even if you are a local. Plain Peanuts, despite it name, is actually more famous for their well beloved peanut butter ice cream than anything else. Definitely some of the best ice cream ever and I’m not normally the biggest fan of peanut butter-flavored items. In addition to the ice cream and the flavored peanuts, they also sell a lot of memorabilia and souvenir of former president Jimmy Carter and his family. Everything from the Billy Beer cans(a beer created by Jimmy Carter’s younger brother Billy during his presidency), books, t-shirts, ballcaps, etc. It’s a small local store that packs a mighty punch. The owners are nice and helpful as well. I always stop through whenever I am in the area to get some more of the ice cream. Definitely the place to stop by for some novelty snacks from Southwest Georgia

After driving around Southwest Georgia and visiting the Carter Historic Site at Plains High School, you will have seen the word«Peanut» so much you will be craving them pretty bad. Well, look no further! Right on Main Street and hard to miss(thanks to a massive Carter for President banner) is Plain Peanuts. I get the sense this store really depends on the tourist crowd coming through to see the Carter sites. Being from a tourist town myself, I know a tourist hot spot when I see it — the back half has shelves of t-shirts and other souvenirs and an ice cream parlor seating area. The front half of the store has all sorts of peanut products — pretty much peanuts cooked every which way you could want. It seemed many of the store’s visitors during our visit were from further afield than us — California, Washington, etc. So, for these visitors(we tend to call you«Yankees») I HIGHLY suggest you overcome your natural revulsion and fall in love with the boiled peanut. The ones in Plain Peanut are not the best I’ve ever had, but they tasted like the real deal, made from green peanuts, rather than the sort of fake/frozen one’s you might get in a gas station. So short of an old man’s cart on the side of the road, this is about as good of an introduction to this delicacy as you will get. Beyond boiled peanuts there are numerous types of brittle, fried, and roasted peanuts. There is also a small drink cooler with a limited selection. The peanut products’ packaging declares that they are from right there in Plains, GA, which is cool — visit Plains, eat Plains Peanuts AT Plain Peanut. It’s always a bummer to visit a place like this and turns out the peanuts are from Dothan or something. Customer service was very friendly, prices were unrealistically low(1 lb fried peanuts for under $ 4 at time of this review), and free samples of many products were offered. Bottom line: After the long drive to Plains and the interesting but educational Carter sites, one might as well stop in and satiate their peanut craving before they hit the highway.

Awesome selection of peanut products and souvenirs. I was able to take care of everyone on my list here. The cashier was so helpful in selecting the perfect fudge for my friends in Washington. The fudge is divine, as is the peanut butter ice cream. This place is a must!

This is a review for the product that we ordered online. I have now had three different batches of product and they knock it out of the park. The cinnamon brittle and the chocolate brittle are insane! And the fried peanuts? Oh my God. Worth paying a little extra for. One of these days I will make a road trip and visit this place and personally thank them. Yum. P. S. Their web server sucks. Please… change to something that works. I would happy to host your site for some brittle. Talk to me. I have bandwidth, I just need peanuts.
