I think as far as public libraries go, Plainfield’s library is a shining star and I would give it 10⁄5 Stars if I could… They have Excellent programming for humans of all ages… all the way from little tots to octogenarians+. Does your preschooler need a place to learn with his peers? – they have a class with that. Does your grandma need to learn how to use The Facebook or her Kindle that can do giant font? – they have programming for that. Are you an adult who wants to join a bookclub that meets at a brewpub? – They have programing for that. Looking for family movie night that has free food? – they have programming for that. Want to try a free yoga class? – yep, they offer a couple a month. Free wifi, free computer usage, reasonable printing fees, tons of DVDs & music you can borrow, access to great online resources just by using your library barcode… I could go on & on! The staff is incredibly friendly & helpful, and when I visit I will find myself locked in conversation about recent reads with various members of the staff. I think one of the coolest things at our library is the dedicated teen area. I think it is a neat to give teens a dedicated, sound-contained, space to hang out, study, play games, etc. I would have loved that option as a young teen! Another cool thing about the Plainfield Library is that they support artists. They have a changing selection of art available on the 2nd floor for you to look at(sometimes they are AMAZING paintings). Also, each year they host an Art Gala/fair, which is one of our favorite events in Hendricks County to attend. I don’t know why the rating of the Plainfield Guilford Township library is rated so poorly, except for the low score given by someone who doesn’t understand how public libraries function?(For example: By living in Avon, your tax dollars don’t support the Plainfield library. For the same reason, I couldn’t get a card at the Avon library without paying money…) Anyone who is a part of our community knows the AMAZING resource that is the Plainfield Public Library.

Very rude staff. I couldn’t get a card for my son because we were from Avon? Sad little 5 yr. Old

So, I suppose it’s easy to be partial to a certain library when you live literally a three minute walk from it… but this really is a GREAT library. They have great staff, convenient hours, clean facilities and a great selection. If you’re interested in reserving some space for local meetings, they also have some very nice conference rooms available to the public. Also, while the hubs and I were in the middle of our move, we were in need of some printing/faxing/scanning services. The computers here are great(PC) and all of the above tasks were completed very easily and quickly! They also have very nice teen and children areas complete with activities and games for every age. As I’m passing through, I always see a poster for some sort of Dinner & Movie night where they screen things like Tangled and Frozen. Could be fun for families! Either way, I definitely recommend you check out this library… for Plainfield residents, this is a no brainer… for everyone else? I think a PLAC card is worth it!

Odd to do a review about a library? Well it shouldn’t be! This is a great library and I don’t even live in Plainfield! I’m mostly going to the library for monthly meetings related to work, but I have to say that I am very impressed with this library and consider it a reason to even live in Plainfield. To start they have very nice meeting space(hence the mention above) and aside from the normal library offerings of computers — and the obvious books — they even have an area where you can donate clothes and items for the work release program for offenders from the corrections department(I’m a fan of helping rehab offenders, it’s just my nature) to help them get back on their feet so they don’t come back. The projects for kids are awesome when I had to distract my nephew for a while, which he found exciting as he made me a very nice drawing. I also just appreciate that the library is newer, clean, and easy to find staff with hours that make it easy to host an evening meeting. The staff are also very nice and helpful. I was impressed just when the librarian there did a presentation of photos from the old days of what Plainfield used to look like, apparently they have an excellent photo archive going back decades! Perfect for a history buff like me not even from Indiana! They are working to get as much as they can on the website, but have a LOT to go. So if you haven’t been to the library in a while, you should. Check out the offerings, make a donation, check out a book, and turn off the technology for a little bit.
