This place is decent. The last time I went(which was my first time) my experience was much better. I got the shrimp chimichanga. The shrimp was overcooked and the amount was stingy, and they never brought my extra sour cream to the table. My boyfriend had to flag down another waiter to bring it to me. His food was fine, he ordered the chicken chimichanga. On the menu it says it was two fried chimichangas but mine only came with one. I felt like it should have been stated on the menu. We ordered a small queso as well, and it was really runny like it was thinned out. The last time I was there is was thicker. The chips and salsa are really good though! The sign outside says under new management, so im wondering if that is what has caused the change?

El Jaripeo is nostalgic for me. This was the restaurant of my high school years, when I would practice Spanish with the waitstaff. I have a tomato/bell pepper allergy, so dining out on Mexican food is difficult for me… El Jaripeo is my old standby for when my husband is in the mood for Mexican food because they have 1 dish that I know is consistently good & is tomato free. I’m often not so lucky at the other surrounding Mexican restaurants around town. The food is consistent here, and has been for over a decade. That being said, El Jaripeo is in drastic need of some revitalization on the inside. It is just starting to look dated & worn, even the menus. That worries me.

Mexican is my favorite and El Jaripeo is one of my fave stops in indy for Mexican food. Salsa is yummy, margaritas are on point(careful, they’re stronger than they taste). I’ve been on an aróz con pollo kick lately and their pollo jaripeo doesn’t disappoint! My hubby loves the taco salad jaripeo. We’ve tried almost everything on the menu at one time or another and it’s all delicious. The service is great and the price is even better. We’ve never had to wait for a table but it does get busy. You will not be disappointed.

Quick and friendly service. Great prices, especially the lunch specials! Lots of shopping nearby. Standard authentic Mexican food. I will be back!

This was a most disappointing dining experience. The salsa was bland, the chips seemed stale, the food was mediocre, and the service was just so-so. Perhaps the biggest surprise was an upcharge on both of our meals for ordering the beef instead of chicken option, although no mention of that on the menu. It simply said«steak or chicken». We’ll not return.

I went to this place for lunch today. I tried their lunch fajitas and chimichanga. I ordered both without meat, just only vegetables. Oh ! fajitas were great, fried perfectly and taste good. Then I took a share from chimichanga dish ordered by my wife. I loved it too. Most people complain about service here but I didn’t see such problem. When I was given table to sit, with in 1 minutes chips with salsa arrived and I placed my order. With in 5 – 7 mins, our food was in front of us… Not bad at all. Server was excellent too, very friendly. I would love to come back again very soon. Keep it up guys ! Keep the quality of the food good.

Traveling to Plainfield, where to eat… hmmmm. Stumble upon El Jaripeo. It’s a little overdone on the inside with décor, not a big deal, way too much candy on the counter, lol. Salsa and chips, good, big coke, good, nacho’s carbone, good. I’ve never had nacho’s with shrimp, steak and chicken, not bad. The queso cheese is good, and service was pretty good. Come to find out my friends have been here alot and call it the hairy armpit. lol

Pretty good Mexican food overall. The Margaritas are quite good as well as the Fajitas El Jaripeo. The décor is pretty average and the staff is friendly and attentive. \ I really hate to make this update, but unfortunately this place is going downhill fast. I think there has been a management change for some reason. It is still better than El Mason, but I think El Cerrito is now the best Mexican restaurant in Plainfield.

We’ve been to El Jaripeo quite a few times. It’s usually very good, but on occasion they miss the mark. I find the margarita’s overly sweet and not at all authentic, so I stick with beer. Others I’ve taken here like the sweet margarita. The food is a combination of some authentic mexican and some tex-mex. It’s less cheesy and gooey than you’ll find at other places in the area, which plays to my own likes just fine. I gravitate towards simple dishes — tacos, enchiladas, taquitos, and the like. It can get busy fast. Be patient in these periods.

They served me the wrong food, didn’t check on me with enough time to fix it, and refused to take it off the check. I was more than nice about their mistake but I didn’t expect to pay for food I did not order. They were nasty in telling me they would not remove it from the check, and made nasty remarks about me in Spanish(which I understood) as I was leaving, although I was gracious and paid for their mistake. El Meson in Plainfield or La Hacienda in Avon taste better and will give courteous service.

Terrible! I’m normally pretty forgiving, but this place was bad, and I was expecting so much more based on the reviews. For starters, it is a bad sign when the place is less than ½ full at 7:30 on a Saturday evening. The ambiance is lacking, with closely placed tables and ugly brown walls. The restaurant was loud despite how few customers were actually there. The chips and salsa came and the salsa was inedible! When I looked around, everyone had cheese sauce(obviously because of how bad their salty, watery salsa was), and I ordered some for our table. Our waitress was inattentive at best. We were essentially ignored the whole time. My meal was ok, but I paid about $ 11 for one burrito and some flavorless pink-colored rice. It took our waitress almost 15 min. after she had cleared our plates to even bring us a check. This was the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in a long time and I will not go back. I agree with Brenton A., El Messon is a much better choice if you’re looking for mexican food in Plainfield.

Gah. Seriously? This was terrible. Terrible! The salsa was tepid cilantro water, and my «pollo diablo» was chicken covered in spicy ketchup, apparently. This is some of the WORST Mexican food I’ve ever had, and at twice the regular price. $ 25 for two people! Ridiculous. I’m kicking myself for not going down the street to El Meson.

I’ll start off by saying that I am a Mexican food addict and I’m pretty picky. I love El Jaripeo! They have great specials all the time and the staff is super friendly.

After reading the other reviews I was really excited to try El Jaripeo. We are Mexican food fanatics and were hoping to find authentic Mexican in our new neck of the woods. Honestly, I was a tad disappointed. It’s not all bad but it’s not that great either. Like a lot of Mexican restaurants I think it depends on what you order. I’ll start with the positive: Best margarita EVER! Perfect blend of salty, sweet, limey goodness with just the right amount of tequila. One of the best house margaritas I’ve ever had. $ 6.25 and worth every penny! I Loved the perfectly spiced homemade salsa. Chips were light and tasty, not greasy. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas. The chicken was excellent and he loved the seasoned vegetables. He was also impressed with the refried beans. Now to the not so positive: I ordered a combo with a beef taco, cheese enchilada and chalupa. The taco was decent, but how hard is it to make a taco with just meat and cheese? The enchilada was not good. The sauce was really ketchupy and it was just a gooey mess. The chalupa was kind of tasteless and the tortilla on the bottom tasted… kind of… funny. The service was quick but there weren’t very many other people there besides us and the waiter was a bit on the stern side. Not that I really expect or need perky service, just making the observation. The prices were reasonable. Restaurant was very clean and the décor was cute and casual. I would definitely go back if I’m in the mood for a margarita but will be sampling different menu items!

One of the better Mexican restaurants in the Indianapolis area. Typical Mexican cantina décor and mariachi music, giant margaritas, mexican and domestic beer — there is also a bar area, it is larger than most strip mall Mexican places. Located in a strip mall off of 40, so it is easy to miss. Lots of TVs playing college football the day I was in there. Lots of families eating here — expect a lot of kids and noise. The food is pretty cheap and pretty good — you can eat here with a(non alcoholic) drink for less than 10 dollars. I had the taquitos mexicanos — 2 chicken and 2 beef tacos in deep fried corn shells — meat was tender and delicious — and I think the only tacos that actually come with lettuce, tomato, sour cream and guac. It is a lot of food, so I ended up taking more than half of it home. They are really accommodating, my friend wanted something he didn’t see on the menu — they made it, no problem. Service is fast and attentive — always keeps the drinks filled, and checked on us often.

This us definitely the best Mexican place in Plainfield! I usually go once a week and always have excellent service and the food is always good. I’m a vegetarian and what I really appreciate is how their vegetarian fajitas are actually the same size as a regular order of fajitas. Often places just give you the skillet minus the meat. They also have pretty good drink specials too.

Best Mexican on the west side! Great Lunch Specials. Burrito Loco, Fajitas, and Burrito Marino are my favorites.
