Stopped here when passing through, and so glad we did. Easy going atmosphere, great service, and FANTASTIC food. We asked our waitress for her recommendation, and she says the brisket sandwich was the best she’s ever had. She didn’t lie — it’s excellent!

Randomly found this little place and we weren’t so sure what we were going to find. Turns out, it’s a gem! The food was delicious. The cornbread was to die for, we ended up taking some to go! And the service was top notch. Ian was our waiter and he was patient and kind and very helpful. If I lived around here I would absolutely be back. I have nothing but good things to say about this place! Definitely go here.

Mmmm mmmm mmmm yummy yummy ribs !!! Coleslaw was also delicious! The potato salad had a little too much mustard but that’s coming from a seasoned vet in the potato salad game! I had a southern mother in law who made it so deliciously I am in a way biased !! Corn bread with honey butter all yummy stuff. Hit the spot!

Love the food. Great smokey flavors. These guys know what they are doing. Price is pretty good and you get good portion sizes. We have used them for catering a couple times as well.

Totally worth a stop for the food here. Had brisket, baby back ribs, and chicken Caesar salad with beans and Cole slaw for sides. The owner is from Texas, and he bought this place two years ago. Will totally stop here on my way to Tahoe from now on.

I had been wanting to try this place while passing through from Sacramento to Apple Hill, but never got a chance until this past weekend. The parking lot was practically full at 1:15 pm when we pulled up(always a sign of yumminess to come). The staff was friendly and the BBQ was delicious! Would definitely come back again for more meaty goodness!

Best BBQ we have found. Their brisket is to die for. Prices very reasonable, portions great. Only downfall is it takes 40 minutes to get there!

Been here twice now. Amazing! Not usually a fan of beans but they make very good beans. Not sweet and vwry good seasoning. Still need to come and try mac and cheese on the weekends. Brisket and ribs are super tender and just melt in your mouth. Can’t find one thing wrong with this place… A must have when we come up this way!

Passed through Placerville so many times and saw this place but never pulled over. What a mistake… We have been missing out on some of the best bbq in the surrounding Valley! Ribs absolutely amazing seasonings and fall off the bone tender. Brisket smokey, tender and seasoned to perfection! Sides were large and really good. Services was great Justin was our server and was awesome. Highly recommend this place

Great BBQ, Hog Wild! My only complaint is the waste. I stopped in for a brisket taco to DINEIN. Everything was disposable. Served in a paper tray, with foil and a plastic container, with lid, of mango salsa. When I suggested that maybe dine in customers be served with real dishes to not add to the landfill, I was told it was necessary because the salsa needed to marinate for two days. Really? Two ounces of mango salsa is going to taste exactly like it did when you put it in there two days earlier. Let’s be a little more environmentally conscience. This is almost as much as a turnoff as given styrofoam for to go orders. Which I’m hoping you don’t do… But you do.

First off you won’t find much authentic BBQ on the West Slope above Folsom, so stop looking and come to Hog Wild in Downtown Placerville for some BBQ heaven. Hog Wild offers traditional combination BBQ dinners for 2 or more guests where you can mix the meat choices, from sausages, to chicken, to pork spareribs or baby backs. There are sides like salad, wedge fries, mac n cheese, or vegetables. Rolls are fluffy and baked in house. There are also some salads, vegetarian items, burgers and sandwiches. But the BBQ pork, brisket, and ribs will have you coming back, if you are a meat lover like me. Beer and wine are served and this might be one of the very few places you can find Shiner Bock on Tap. A Texas staple, if you haven’t heard of it. There are about 12 taps and a small bar. One of the hidden gems is the small outdoor patio under the greens which has about 4 big tables. The environs here are laid back, kind of a roadside place, so it’s not a date night place it’s more a family night out place. Very large parties(over 12) will not work too well here as the capacity of the restaurant is constrained for that. They do take out and are open all day so this is a good stop for a happy hour beer or quick late sandwich lunch as well. But like the rest of El Dorado County they close early. The smoke house ribs and friendly service take it from 4 to 5 star. Ribs here are just divine. The prices are excellent, very family friendly when you order up combination meals.

This place is pretty bomb. Bar b que so good it might make your soul go to heaven! Get here early cuz the good meats sell out quick. Everything I tried was delicious. Brisket was perfectly cooked. Chicken was juicy. Baby back ribs were falling off the bone. All 3 sauces I tried were good. Beer selection modest but they had some good locals brews on tap. I tried the Shiner Bock. It’s an old school Texas beer that was very tasty. Cornbread was great, especially with the honey butter. Mashed potatoes and gravy were home made and delicious. On top of all the great food, service was EXCELLENT! Thanks for all the good work. I will be back!!!

The beef ribs were fall of the bone good but I was disappointed in the Mac and cheese. It tasted like an out of the box Kraft version but worst. My kids didn’t even finish it. The pulled pork and brisket were well seasoned and had a nice smoky flavor. A solid bbq choice in Placerville but certainly not better than TX bbq.

The absolute best barbecue in the area. Brisket — soft tender fatty. Hot links. Yummy. Baby back ribs. Great. Sides we loved the potato salad. The green beans were fresh. And the rolls warm. No diet here. We shall return for the weekend mac n cheese and the cornbread! A not to be missed experience.

This place has legit Texas BBQ. For $ 15, you can get a huge three meat platter plus two sides. For my non-southern friends, this is the real deal and you should definitely check it out on your way to/from Tahoe!

My opinion is somewhat limited, as I only got chicken(no sides) to go. I was a bit bummed when I was told they didn’t have pulled chicken, but that they had sliced chicken breast. I usually avoid chicken breast, as it is almost always dry. However, they did well! It was very juicy with a nice flavor. I’m also not usually loving most sauces, but there’s was pretty good. I asked for a hot, tomato-based sauce. It actually tasted like they heated some up for me and added some heat. Made me happy. It’s right off the highway en route to Tahoe, so it’s a quick stop midway.

Seriously, why it took me so long to try this place? I usually come to Lake Tahoe every year, only last year I didn’t come cuz of my pregnancy. And I have never heard of this place until this year that my husband and I decided to take our first son to experience the snow for the first time. While we were driving up to Tahoe, we looked up on Unilocal and found this place. So we thought we should gave it a try. And it would be nice to get another break for our little guy. My husband and I went to Texas before and yeah this place even taste better than BBQ places over there! We enjoyed the meal there and yes on the way back home we still stopped by for lunch and took some to go orders. I highly recommended this place! Amazing BBQ and friendly service!

They know to handle meet. We had the Hangtown Sampler for two and everything we had was made to perfection. Good selection of draft beers as well and even Shiner Bock on tap which you don’t find in California often. Great place to stop when you’re hungry after a day in the slopes in Tahoe. I’m a fan!

Really fantastic, BBQ’d fresh daily, made from scratch delicious Texas style BBQ! The building and location are really understated and you wouldn’t think anything much when you drive by, but do me a favor and stop in for a meal, it’ll be some of the best BBQ you’ve eaten in this area! On a trip to Apple Hill, we were craving BBQ, but I read about all the different places on the Hill with tri tip and such, but none of it sounded that appealing. And after seeing the BBQ places in person on the Hill, I was very unimpressed. But then I came across Hog Wild on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We ordered a meal for 2 for about $ 30, which came with 3 meats and 3 sides. We ordered the jalapeño cheese sausage, rib meat, and tri tip for our meats and corn bread, mashed potatoes, and potato wedges as our sides(we were feeling carbs that day!). The meats were SOOOO tender and flavorful even without the BBQ sauce, which is served on the side so you can drizzle or dunk however you like. They also have a variety of BBQ sauces, including some spicy ones which I highly recommend if you like heat. There was plenty of food for at least 3 people I’d say, the portions are very generous. I don’t claim to be an expert on BBQ, but I am from Texas so I feel like I have some authority when I say that this place is bomb! TIP: check in on Unilocal to receive 10% off your bill!
