Please change the«wine tasting» sign to «enter at your own risk.» If you are a women, or know a woman, do not go here. I really cannot add anything not already discussed other than this place needs to be shut down, if not for the vulgar sexual harassment then for the filthy tasting room.

Any self-respecting human being, let alone wine aficionado, will opt for the alternative. Any alternative will do. Should you elect not to heed this advice, bring hand sanitizer, ear plugs, $ 3 for the tasting fee and birth control. You can never be too sure. Placerville police dept # is 530−642−5210 in case of assault.

Creepy — not a winery. A run down home/small apartment. No signs of life or actually being a professional winery. STAYAWAY!

Ray lit up a cigarette after he saw us arrive. He took a couple of puffs then put it out as he led us into the dark, dusty, cramped tasting room with no air circulation. We took our seats on the three stools at the counter. As he breathed 2nd hand tobacco exhale on us, he poured slightly cooler than room temperature Chardonnay into dusty wine glasses for us to taste. Mediocre. Then he proceeded to pour several types of red wine for us to taste. Horribly spoiled wine. He took a puff on an inhaler. While we pondered the amber color of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Ray proceeded to tell dirty jokes and insult one of our group on her profession. On the brighter side, he did open a new bottle of Late Harvest Zinfandel for us to try. This was pretty good. All things considered, this was the worst wine tasting and winery we have visited in 35+ years of wine tasting. Avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid!

The place is difficult to find and definitely not worth it! The guy who makes/serves the wine is out of control! If you feel like being sexually harassed by an old man, this is the place for you. On top of that, the wine was ridiculously bad! I am always bummed to write a negative review, but totally feel it is necessary. Worst part is that we actually got charged to taste the wine. I had one taste and my three friends didn’t finish the tasting yet the man charged us $ 12. $ 12 for some swill that I am pretty sure he made in his bathtub, I feel ripped off!

I don’t really know where to begin… We stopped here on a whim after visiting another winery in the area and the whole experience felt like a horrible Halloween joke. We were greeted by an elderly man who asked us if we were«prudes.» Against our better judgement, we deflected the question and proceeded inside. The tasting room smelled of stale cigarettes and mold and the counter was splashed with old wine stains that no one bothered to clean up. The mounding evidence suggested that we should leave, but we didn’t. Apparently, we were the only visitors to the tasting room that day and it was after 4:00 P.M. Another warning ignored. The old man, who we learned was the owner and winemaker, poured us some of the most foul wines I have ever tasted(in fact, I wonder if there was something wrong with them…) while he recounted filthy tales of prostitutes, swingers clubs, and other«adventures» from his youth. The conversation continued to sour as he described(in vivid detail) his sexual inclinations. Fortunately, at this point, we had reached the last tasting and quickly retreated to the safety of our car.

Old man Ray is quite the interesting fellow. Wine is good, his stories… even better :)

Super far out of the way to go and so not worth it. You drive out forever only to get to a house with no real direction as to where to go. The tasting room is literally in the guys basement and has cobwebs all over and is in a good need of a through dusting! The wines were ok, nothing that stood out to me at all and he served warm chardonnay which I thought was kinda odd. The wine glasses were dusty, and half the time the man forgot to tell us which wine he had just poured. I wasn’t so impressed. The man, Ray, seemed like a nice old man but really seemed more interested in talking about his life and telling us stories than letting us drink some wine(it was my birthday and the first place we went so I was looking to get my drink on!!). Ray was nice enough but I think crossed the line a little with my friend who he was commenting on her great smile and notably embarrassing her.

I had a nice visit with Ray the winemaker today! I was the only one there at the winery today. i dropped in to pick up a wine as a gift for my boss and ended up with a case of the Chardonnay, a late harvest Zin and the Sherry! A real treat! The was nothing pretentious about it at all including Ray. I am sure if you wanted to talk wine he could talk wine all day, but today he just wanted to shoot the breeze and have a laugh. I spent a good 40 minutes there and felt more like i was at a local bar with my favorite bartender. A real treat since I am so used to the stuffy wine snobs around napa who expect you to talk wine. I even got a hug and a kiss on the cheek. This place is as shabby chic as it gets. Don’t go if you are looking for the polish of the napa valley. Do go if you like you to relax and smile while having some good wines! And hey they take MC/VISA!

Definitely a place to go if you don’t want to deal with the snob wine drinkers who cruise the wine regions in stretch hummers and ask if they can have the«red» zinfandel. This place is hard to find, you feel like you’re driving into the middle of nowhere. My wife and I almost turned back but then we came around a bend and almost plowed into this guy on a tractor(ok, I was going a little fast). Turned out he was the winemaker and tasting room operator and we(at about 3pm) were his first customers of the day. He takes us into this dark, cramped little room and he’s a strange looking little fellow too but very friendly although awfully talkative and kind of twitchy. But the wines were superb, the Barbera especially was very good. It’s off the beaten path but it’s worth the effort to hunt down and find.
